- 4. Physical test - run:
- Men of all categories: 1 mile (1.6 km) within 6 minutes 30 seconds. Women of all categories: 1 kilometre within 6 minutes

- Men minimum 4 feet; women minimum 3 feet
- 6. Physical test - long jump:
- Men minimum 12 feet; women minimum 9 feet
- 7. Physical test - shot put:
- Men: 16 pound shot, minimum 16 feet. Women: 12 pound shot, minimum 10 feet
- 8. Attempts:
- Three attempts are allowed for the high jump, the long jump and the shot put. A candidate who completes the run within the set time but fails to meet the minimum standard in the jumps or the shot put is declared unsuccessful and is not given a chance in the remaining events
Selection Process
- 1. Stage 1 - Preliminary examination:
- One paper of 200 marks with 100 questions in 2 hours on general knowledge and current affairs. Candidates scoring below 30 per cent are declared unsuccessful for the mains. Twenty times the number of vacancies are selected category-wise on merit for the mains
- 2. Stage 2 - Mains written examination, Paper 1:
- General Hindi, 200 marks with 100 questions in 2 hours. A minimum of 30 per cent is compulsory, failing which the candidate is declared ineligible; the marks are not counted towards merit
- 3. Stage 2 - Mains written examination, Paper 2:
- General studies, general science, civics, Indian history, Indian geography, mathematics and mental ability, 200 marks with 100 questions in 2 hours
- 4. Negative marking:
- 0.2 marks are deducted for every wrong answer in both stages
- 5. Stage 3 - Physical fitness and efficiency test:
- Six times the number of vacancies are called category-wise on merit from the mains. Only a pass is required; no marks are given
- 6. Merit list:
- Prepared category-wise from the marks of the mains written examination. Ties are broken by date of birth (older first), then by higher educational qualification, then by the English alphabetical order of the name on the 10th board certificate
- 7. Minimum qualifying marks for the final merit list:
