How to Apply

1. Where:
Online only, through the application link on www.bpssc.bih.nic.in. Registration is done first, taking the candidate's mobile number and e-mail ID, followed by online payment.
2. Registration tabs:
Candidates applying under direct recruitment select the "Direct Recruitment" tab; ex-servicemen wanting the age relaxation select the "Ex-serviceman" tab; Bihar government employees seeking a higher pay scale service select the "Employees of Bihar Government" tab.
3. Name and date of birth:
For direct recruitment the name and date of birth must match the class 10 / SSC / matriculation certificate; for ex-servicemen the PPO or defence services documents (with PPO number, date of joining service and date of discharge); for Bihar government employees the matriculation certificate or any official government document. Prefixes such as Mr., Miss, Smt., Shri or Dr. are not allowed.
4. One application only:
Only one application may be filed, and only one from a single mobile number or e-mail address. If the Commission finds two or more applications from different mobile numbers or e-mail addresses, all of them are rejected. The mobile number and e-mail address cannot be changed after applying.
5. Photograph and signature:
A colour passport-size photograph (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm) taken within the last two months, under 25 KB, in jpg or png, showing both ears clearly and without a cap or dark or coloured glasses; and separate scanned signatures in Hindi and in English, in black ink on white paper, each under 25 KB.
6. Documents to keep ready:
Educational certificates (class 10 / SSC / matriculation, Intermediate / 10+2, diploma in computer application, and graduation and post-graduation if any), address proof (Aadhaar, voter ID, driving licence, passport, ration card or birth certificate) with the nearest post office and PIN code, and for ex-servicemen the defence services documents.
7. Cancelling a registration or application:
A wrongly filled registration or application can be cancelled at https://apply-bpssc.com through the "View Application Status" button, by entering the application or registration ID or mobile number and date of birth, then "Cancel Registration" or "Cancel Application form" and confirming the one-time password sent to the registered mobile number. The fee is not refunded, but the mobile number is released so a fresh registration can be made.
8. Nothing to be posted:
The application form number is needed for future correspondence, so a copy of the completed application form with photograph must be kept and attached to any letter to the Commission.

Exam Pattern

1. Preliminary examination:
One objective paper, 100 questions, 100 marks, 1.5 hours, on general knowledge and current affairs.
2. Main examination - Paper 1:
General Hindi, 100 objective questions, 100 marks, 1.5 hours. Qualifying only at 30 percent; the marks are not added to the merit.
3. Main examination - Paper 2:
General studies, general science, civics, Indian history, Indian geography, mathematics and mental ability, 100 objective questions, 100 marks, 1.5 hours.
4. Negative marking:
0.2 marks deducted for each wrong answer in both the preliminary and the main examination.

Syllabus Details

1. Written test syllabus:
Matriculation level General Knowledge and social/current issues.
2. Driving test components:
Jeep/car testing track; heavy vehicle track; clutch/track open-ground figure-8; oral questions on Motor Vehicles Act/rules/signs and vehicle parts/maintenance.

Selection Process

1. Stages actually held:
Preliminary written examination on 26.08.2018 (6,952 candidates), main written examination in two shifts on 17.03.2019 (2,820 candidates, 2,355 successful), computer based shorthand and typing proficiency test on 23.08.2019 and 24.08.2019 (438 passed), and document verification at the Commission's office in Patna from 12.09.2019 to 14.09.2019.
2. Final merit:
The 405 candidates found eligible at document verification were considered for the final merit list, from which 173 were selected in merit order and by category against the vacancies.
3. Joining:
Selected candidates must collect their selection letter from the Commission's office on 21.09.2019 and then join with all their original certificates at the office of the Director General of Police, Bihar, Patna, between 25.09.2019 and 15.10.2019.

Admit Card Details

1. Written examination admit card:
After the closing date all applications are scrutinised, a candidate database is built and the admit card for the written examination is issued to the candidate's e-mail address. Formal information about the written examination is given through the newspapers in due course.

Reservation Details

1. Statute:
Reservation applies under the Bihar Reservation of Vacancies in Posts and Services (for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes) Act, 1991 (Bihar Act 3, 1992), as amended from time to time.
2. Women:
35 percent horizontal reservation for women in the reserved and unreserved categories, per General Administration Department circular no. 2342 dated 15.02.2016 - 59 of the 174 posts.
