Fee Structure

Application Fee

1. Rs 700/- (seven hundred):
Original residents of Bihar of the Extremely Backward Class, Backward Class, Economically Weaker Section and Unreserved categories, men only; and all candidates from outside the state, whether men or women and of any category
2. Rs 400/- (four hundred):
Original residents of Bihar of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories, men only; and women candidates of all categories who are original residents of Bihar

Payment Methods

1. Mode of payment:
Online payment only. The application fee is charged as an examination fee and the online application form must be purchased at the prescribed price

How to Apply

1. Where to apply:
Online only. Go to https://bpssc.bihar.gov.in, open the Prohibition tab and click the link relating to Advt. No. 01/2025; the application process starts from the application link given on that page. The prescribed method and process are explained in detail on the commission's website
2. Read the instructions first:
The instructions for filling the online application form are available on the website; candidates are advised to study them thoroughly before applying and to enter every detail correctly. If any information is found false or wrong the application is cancelled and the necessary legal action is also taken
3. Mobile number and e-mail:
A valid and active mobile number and e-mail id, registered in the candidate's own name as far as possible, are compulsory for registration. Candidates without an e-mail id must create one, because important information is shared on the registered e-mail id and mobile number during the application and the selection process
4. Commission's correspondence:
Until the final stage of recruitment is completed the commission communicates with the candidate only on the mobile number and e-mail id given at registration. The commission is not responsible for a wrong, invalid or disconnected mobile number or e-mail id
5. Payment:
The application fee and bank charges must be paid online. Applicants should take care while paying and avoid making several payments for a single application
6. One application per candidate:
Only one online application may be filled from one mobile number, and a candidate may file only one online application. If a candidate files more than one, all of that candidate's applications are rejected. Candidates applying under a fake name or address are treated as ineligible and severe legal action is also taken against them
7. Check eligibility first:
Before filling the application the candidate must be satisfied that he or she fulfils every eligibility condition laid down in the advertisement
8. Reservation category:
If an applicant enters a wrong reservation category the candidature is cancelled, so applicants must be fully sure which class or category they belong to. Applicants of reserved categories should study the up-to-date instructions and orders issued from time to time on https://state.bihar.gov.in/gad
9. First part of the form:
The online application is filled in two parts. In the first part the candidate registers, giving name, nationality, mobile number, e-mail id, domicile of the State of Bihar, reservation category, gender and date of birth, and then completes the payment process
10. Registration number and password:
On successful registration the candidate is immediately sent a registration number and password by SMS or e-mail to the mobile phone and the registered e-mail id. Details may be edited before payment
11. Cancelling a registration:
Details registered wrongly cannot be edited after payment; in that case the applicant may use the Cancel Registration Form provision to cancel the registration, but the application fee already paid is not returned and a fresh fee is payable for a new registration
12. Second part of the form:
After logging in with the registration number and password, the candidate fills in father's or husband's name, mother's name, address and educational qualification in the second part of the form and agrees to the declaration
13. Photograph:
A colour photograph of the applicant taken within the previous two months on a white background, between 15 and 25 KB, in .jpg, .jpeg or .gif format, must be scanned and uploaded
14. Signature:
Signatures in English and in Hindi, separately, in black and blue ink on a white background, between 15 and 25 KB, in .jpg, .jpeg or .gif format, must be scanned and uploaded
15. Editing and final submission:
If the instructions about the photograph and the signature are not followed the online application is cancelled. After uploading the photograph and signatures the applicant may use the 'Edit Details' button before final submission. Once the form is confirmed and submitted the details cannot be edited and the commission permits no change of any kind
16. Confirmation:
The application process is complete only when a confirmation SMS or e-mail reaches the registered mobile number or e-mail id
17. Acknowledgement:
The applicant should print the acknowledgement of the completed application on A4 size paper, check it carefully and produce it for any future correspondence or on demand
18. Correcting a wrongly filled application:
If an applicant considers that the application was finally submitted with wrong or defective particulars and needs correction, the application may be cancelled using the Cancel provision; the fee already paid is not returned and a fresh fee must be paid for the new application
19. No postal applications:
The last date for filling the online application is 27.03.2025 and no extension will be granted. A request for correction of an application sent by post or by any other means will not be considered

Exam Pattern

1. Question type:
All papers of the written examination are based on multiple-choice (objective) questions
2. Preliminary examination:
One paper of 200 marks, 100 questions, duration 2 (two) hours, on general knowledge and current affairs. A candidate scoring less than 30 per cent is declared unsuccessful for the main examination
3. Main examination, Paper 1:
General Hindi, 200 marks, 100 questions, duration 2 (two) hours. A minimum qualifying score of 30 per cent is compulsory, failing which the candidate is declared ineligible. The marks of the General Hindi paper are not added when merit is determined
4. Main examination, Paper 2:
General Studies, General Science, Civics, Indian History, Indian Geography, Mathematics and mental ability test; 200 marks, 100 questions, duration 2 (two) hours
5. Negative marking:
0.2 marks are deducted for every wrong answer in the examinations of both phases
6. Answer sheet:
The answer sheet is in two copies, one of which is kept safe with the commission

Selection Process

1. Stages held:
The preliminary written examination was held on 18.05.2025 and the main written competitive examination on 31.08.2025 (Sunday). The physical efficiency test and record verification of the candidates found eligible on the main written examination were held on 22.12.2025 in the premises of Shaheed Rajendra Prasad Singh Higher Secondary School (Patna High School), Gardanibagh, Patna - 800002
2. Attendance at the physical efficiency test:
Of the 168 candidates eligible for the physical efficiency test, 151 attended and 17 remained absent
3. Basis of final selection:
Under Government of Bihar Home Department (Police Branch) notification no. 4/B1-101/2004-7025 dated 30.08.2017 as amended and notification no. 6455 dated 07.08.2019, read with Advertisement No. 01/2025 and the conditions of the requisition received under Prohibition, Excise and Registration Department letter no. 7/Estt.-(Prohibition)-01-01/2024-5086 dated 06.12.2024, candidates who succeeded in the physical efficiency test, held the other required eligibility and obtained the minimum qualifying marks in the main written examination were selected for the post in order of merit and category-wise on the basis of the main written examination
4. Candidates fit for consideration:
A total of 95 candidates holding the physical efficiency, educational qualification, age and reservation eligibility were found fit for consideration for final selection
5. Verification of eligibility, education and character, and identification:
Before appointment, the appointing authority will have the educational qualification, reservation and other eligibility records of the selected candidates verified together with character verification according to the rules. A candidate is declared ineligible for appointment on an adverse report and/or where facts have been concealed. A candidate against whom a criminal case is pending in a court, or who has been held guilty by a court, is declared ineligible for appointment
6. Medical examination:
Before appointment the appointing authority will have the selected candidates medically examined according to the rules. A candidate must be found fit at the medical examination; a candidate found unfit is not appointed
7. Recommendation:
The recommendation for the appointment of the finally selected candidates is being sent by the Bihar Police Sub-Ordinate Services Commission to the concerned appointing authority, the Excise Commissioner, Bihar, Patna
8. Status of this list:
The commission asks that the list of roll numbers of the candidates selected and recommended should not be understood as a merit list

Admit Card Details

1. Availability:
The admit card for the physical efficiency test will be available from 03.12.2025 on the commission's website https://bpssc.bihar.gov.in, under the 'Prohibition Dept.' tab. Candidates must download their e-admit card and take a printout
2. No postal despatch:
It is made clear that no e-admit card will be sent by post
3. Duplicate e-admit card:
Candidates who for any reason cannot download the e-admit card from the website may obtain a duplicate from the commission's office at 5, Harding Road, Patna - 800001 on 17.12.2025 between 10:00 hours in the forenoon and 17:00 hours in the evening. Such a candidate must attend the office in person with a photocopy of the acknowledgement of the application and a valid photo identity document, and obtain the duplicate e-admit card at his or her own expense
4. What to carry to the test:
The e-admit card and a photocopy of the acknowledgement of the online application, in addition to the original certificates and one set of photocopies of them

Reservation Details

1. Governing Act:
Reservation applies under the provisions of the Bihar Reservation of Vacancies in Posts and Services (for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes) Act, 1991 (Bihar Act 3, 1992), as amended from time to time
2. Reservation for women:
Keeping intact the 3 per cent reservation for women of the backward classes, 35 per cent of the remaining 97 per cent of the reserved and unreserved posts are reserved for women separately in each reservation category. This reservation is horizontal
3. Shortfall of women candidates:
Where a sufficient number of eligible women candidates is not available, the remaining vacancies are filled from eligible men candidates of the same category
4. Appointment of women beyond the quota:
Under the provision contained in section 4(3) of Bihar Act 3, 1992, women may also be appointed on merit over and above the 35 per cent stated above
5. Economically Weaker Sections:
The provisions of the Bihar Reservation of Vacancies in Posts and Services and in Admission to Educational Institutions (for Economically Weaker Sections) Act, 2019 apply
6. Candidates of other states:
The benefit of reservation is allowed only to original residents of the State of Bihar; candidates of reserved categories of other states are counted as unreserved

Document Requirements

1. Documents to be produced at joining:
Selected candidates must produce the relevant original certificates and records, listed below, in person at the time of joining in the concerned department
2. Photo identity:
A valid photo identity document such as a voter identity card, driving licence or Aadhaar card
3. Educational qualification:
The educational qualification certificate of having passed the graduate examination or an equivalent examination
4. Date of birth:
Certificate of date of birth - the original matriculation certificate
5. Caste certificate:
A caste certificate issued by the competent authority, for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Extremely Backward Class and Backward Class candidates. The caste certificate of a woman candidate, married or unmarried, is valid only if issued on the basis of her father
6. Non-creamy-layer certificate:
A certificate of not falling in the creamy layer, for Backward Class and Extremely Backward Class candidates. The non-creamy-layer certificate of a woman candidate, married or unmarried, is valid only if issued on the basis of her father
7. Residence certificate:
A certificate of being a permanent resident of the State of Bihar, for candidates of all reserved categories
8. Economically weaker section certificate:
Where applicable, a certificate of membership of the economically weaker section of the State of Bihar issued on the income of financial year 2023-24, in the form prescribed by Government of Bihar, General Administration Department notification no. 2622 dated 26 February 2019 (Gazette no. 284). The financial year is recorded exactly as printed in this notice
9. Bihar government servants:
Where applicable, a certificate of being a government servant of the Government of Bihar
10. Ex-servicemen:
Where applicable, the PPO and the discharge book of an ex-serviceman candidate

Important Instructions

1. Joining:
Further instructions about joining will be issued by the appointing authority. Selected candidates must join in person before the concerned appointing authority with the specified records. Candidature may be cancelled if a candidate does not join within the fixed period.
