How to Apply

1. Where:
Online only, through the "Home Guard" tab of https://bpssc.bihar.gov.in, on the link for Advt. No. 01/2026.
2. Registration:
Part one of the form is registration: name, nationality, mobile number, e-mail ID, Bihar domicile, reservation category, gender and date of birth, followed by payment. A registration number and password are sent by SMS and e-mail after a successful payment. A valid and active mobile number and e-mail ID are compulsory; only one application may be filed from one mobile number.
3. Second part:
After logging in with the registration number and password the candidate fills part two with father's, husband's and mother's name, address and educational qualification, and uploads a colour photograph taken within the last two months on a white background (15 to 25 KB, .jpg/.jpeg/.gif) and separate signatures in Hindi and English in black or blue ink (15 to 25 KB).
4. Editing and submission:
Details may be edited with the "Edit Details" button before final submission; nothing can be changed once the form is confirmed and submitted. A confirmation SMS or e-mail marks the application complete; the acknowledgement should be printed on A4 paper and kept.
5. Cancelling a wrong form:
A candidate who has submitted an incorrect form may cancel it and file a new one, but the fee already paid is not refunded and must be paid again.
6. One application only:
Only one online application may be filed by a candidate. If more than one is filed all of them are rejected. Applications filed on a false name or address attract strict legal action.
7. Nothing to be posted:
The completed online form need not be sent to the Commission, but the registration number is needed for future correspondence and a copy of the acknowledgement with photograph must be attached to any letter to the Commission.

Exam Pattern

1. Written examination:
One objective paper of 100 questions carrying 100 marks, duration two hours, one mark for each correct answer.
2. Answer sheet:
The OMR answer sheet is in two copies; one carbon copy is kept by the Commission for a year after the final selection list is published.
3. Running - men (all categories):
1 mile (1.6 km) in a maximum of 6 minutes, out of 50 marks. Under 5 minutes: 50 marks. 5 minutes to 5 minutes 20 seconds: 40 marks. Over 5:20 up to 5:40: 30 marks. Over 5:40 up to 6 minutes: 20 marks. Over 6 minutes: unsuccessful.
4. Running - women (all categories):
1 kilometre in a maximum of 5 minutes, out of 50 marks. Under 4 minutes: 50 marks. 4 minutes to 4 minutes 20 seconds: 40 marks. Over 4:20 up to 4:40: 30 marks. Over 4:40 up to 5 minutes: 20 marks. Over 5 minutes: unsuccessful.
5. Shot put - men (all categories):
A 16-pound shot, minimum 16 feet, out of 25 marks. 16 to 17 feet: 09 marks. Over 17 up to 18 feet: 13 marks. Over 18 up to 19 feet: 17 marks. Over 19 up to 20 feet: 21 marks. Over 20 feet: 25 marks. Under 16 feet: unsuccessful.
6. Shot put - women (all categories):
A 12-pound shot, minimum 12 feet, out of 25 marks. 12 to 13 feet: 09 marks. Over 13 up to 14 feet: 13 marks. Over 14 up to 15 feet: 17 marks. Over 15 up to 16 feet: 21 marks. Over 16 feet: 25 marks. Under 12 feet: unsuccessful.
7. High jump - men (all categories):
Minimum 4 feet, out of 25 marks. 4 feet: 13 marks. 4 feet 4 inches: 17 marks. 4 feet 8 inches: 21 marks. 5 feet: 25 marks. Under 4 feet: unsuccessful.
8. High jump - women (all categories):
Minimum 3 feet, out of 25 marks. 3 feet: 13 marks. 3 feet 4 inches: 17 marks. 3 feet 8 inches: 21 marks. 4 feet: 25 marks. Under 3 feet: unsuccessful.
9. Order of the physical events:
Only candidates who complete the run within the fixed time (6 minutes for men, 5 minutes for women) go on to the shot put and high jump; a candidate who fails a minimum standard in any event is declared unsuccessful and is not given a chance in the remaining events. Each event must be passed separately. Three attempts are allowed in the shot put and the high jump only.
10. Physical efficiency test standards:
The process, items and standards of the physical efficiency test are the same as those prescribed for the post of constable in the Bihar Police.

Syllabus Details

1. Paper-I syllabus:
Reasoning and analytical ability; English grammar, comprehension & translation; Hindi language.
2. Paper-II syllabus:
General studies and general science; mathematics and quantitative aptitude; Bihar-related general knowledge.

Selection Process

1. Stage reached:
The written examination is over. Candidates found eligible must take and pass the physical efficiency test; the provisions and conditions of the PET follow Advertisement No. 01/2026.
2. Physical efficiency test:
Running, high jump and shot put, together with document verification. No relaxation is allowed in the prescribed minimum physical standards. Appearing on the fixed date is compulsory; a candidate who does not appear is treated as ineligible and given no second chance, and no request for an extension of time is accepted in any circumstance.
3. Final merit list:
Prepared solely on the total marks obtained in the three physical efficiency test events. The written examination result is only qualifying and the published roll-number list is expressly not a merit list.

Admit Card Details

1. Physical efficiency test admit card:
Available on the "Home Guard" tab of https://bpssc.bihar.gov.in once the date is fixed. It is clarified that no admit card will be sent by post.

Reservation Details

1. Statute:
Reservation applies under the Bihar Reservation of Vacancies in Posts and Services (for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes) Act, 1991 (Bihar Act 3, 1992), as amended from time to time.
2. Women:
35 percent horizontal reservation for women in each reservation category, against the 97 percent of posts remaining after the 3 percent reservation for backward-class women. By General Administration Department resolution no. 12575 dated 09.07.2025 the 35 percent horizontal reservation is available only to women who are permanent residents of Bihar. Under section 4(3) of Bihar Act 3, 1992 women may also be appointed on merit over and above this 35 percent.
3. Grandchildren of freedom fighters:
2 percent horizontal reservation, per General Administration Department resolution no. 13185 dated 03.09.2015, for the grandchildren of freedom fighters of Bihar whose pension has been accepted by the central government. Selected candidates are counted in their own reserved or unreserved category.
4. Economically Weaker Sections:
The Bihar Reservation of Vacancies in Posts and Services (for Economically Weaker Sections) Act, 2019 applies. A certificate based on income and assets for financial year 2024-2025 is valid.
5. Third gender:
Kinnar/kothi/hijra/transgender (third gender) persons are listed separately at serial 47 of the backward classes schedule (Schedule-2) of the 1991 Act and receive the benefit given to backward classes in state services. Gender is determined by the identity certificate issued by the District Magistrate.
6. Domicile:
The benefit of reservation is available only to permanent residents of Bihar; reserved-category candidates of other states are counted as unreserved.

Document Requirements

1. Documents to bring to the physical efficiency test:
The admit card and a photocopy of the online application acknowledgement, plus the following originals with one set of photocopies: a valid photo identity document (voter identity card, driving licence, Aadhaar card and the like); the Intermediate or equivalent pass certificate; the original matriculation certificate as proof of date of birth; a caste certificate issued by the competent authority (for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Extremely Backward Class and Backward Class candidates); a non-creamy-layer certificate (for Backward Class and Extremely Backward Class candidates); a permanent residence certificate of Bihar (for all reserved-category candidates); and, where applicable, an Economically Weaker Sections certificate for Bihar based on income and assets for financial year 2024-2025, in the form prescribed by General Administration Department notification no. 2622 dated 26 February 2019 (Gazette no. 284).
2. Certificates of married and unmarried women:
The caste certificate and the non-creamy-layer certificate of a woman candidate, married or unmarried, are valid only if issued on the basis of her father.
