Job Details

DRDO Young Scientist Laboratory–Artificial Intelligence seeks Junior Research Fellows to work on AI R&D for defence applications using deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision/SLAM and reinforcement learning. Fellows will work initially for two years as JRF and may be elevated to SRF for a further two/three years based on annual performance assessment as per DRDO rules. The fellowship is purely temporary and carries Rs. 37,000 per month plus applicable HRA.

1. Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Essential qualification: BE/BTech (first division) with NET/GATE OR ME/MTech (first division at Graduate and Post Graduate level) OR PG in Basic Science (first division) with NET.
  • Desirable: Strong fundamentals in problem solving, algorithm design and complexity analysis.
  • Programming: Expert in at least one major programming language (Python, Java, C++ or similar).
  • AI/ML/DL knowledge: Knowledge of classical AI algorithms, Machine Learning and Deep Learning techniques.
  • Software libraries: Proven experience with PyTorch, Tensorflow, Keras, TensorRT, PyTorchMobile.
  • Domain expertise (any one): Speech & language technology (speech recognition, natural language understanding/NLP/Machine Translation) OR 3D Vision and SLAM, ROS OR Computer Vision including Generative Models OR Reinforcement Learning.

Age Limitations:

  • Upper age limit: 28 years as on the date of interview (relaxable: SC/ST 5 years, OBC 3 years).

Salary Details

> Salary Range: 37,000 - ₹37,000 Monthly

> Gross Salary: 48,100 Monthly

> Allowances: HRA as applicable (at present 30%); if accommodation is provided, HRA will be deducted.

Selection Process

1. Shortlisting:
Based on GATE score/percentage of marks in the qualifying degree.
2. Interview mode:
Personal/on‑line interview at DYSL‑AI, Bengaluru or through Video Conferencing as decided by Director, DYSL‑AI.
3. Intimation:
Date and time will be communicated to shortlisted candidates by speed post/email.
4. Final decision:
Decision of the committee constituted by Director, DYSL‑AI will be final and binding.

Reservation Details

1. Age relaxation:
SC/ST: 5 years; OBC: 3 years.

Document Requirements

Fellowship may be terminated at any time with one month’s prior notice; fellows may resign with one month’s notice.
4. Travel/stay:
Candidates should arrange their own stay and transport in Bangalore; no TA/DA for attending interview or joining.
5. Part‑time Ph.D.:
May be allowed to register for part‑time Ph.D. with approval of DYSL‑AI.
