Job Details

DRDO Young Scientists’ Laboratory for Smart Materials (DYSL-SM), Kanchanbagh, Hyderabad invites Indian Nationals for a walk-in interview for one Junior Research Fellow (JRF). The fellow will work on a project in the area of development of smart materials-based robotic applications, including shape memory alloy and piezoelectric materials. Essential qualification is First Class B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering with a valid GATE score, or First Class M.E./M.Tech. in specified disciplines with First Class B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical/Mechatronics. Stipend is Rs. 37,000 per month plus HRA; upper age limit is 28 years (relaxations as per rules).

1. Junior Research Fellow (Mechanical Engineering)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Essential qualification: B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering with First Class with a valid GATE score OR M.E./M.Tech. with First Class in Mechanical Mechatronics/Robotics & Automation/Machine Design/Solid Mechanics and B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering with First Class.
  • Desirable criteria: Working knowledge of finite element packages, CAD, 3D printing, composite materials, basic electronics and instrumentation.
  • GATE validity: GATE score must be valid as on the date of interview in the relevant subject.

Age Limitations:

  • Upper age limit: 28 years as on the date of application (relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC).

Salary Details

> Gross Salary: ₹37,000 Monthly

> Allowances: HRA and other emoluments as per DRDO rules.

How to Apply

1. Mode:
Walk-in interview; candidates must report by 09:30 hrs on 06.10.2026 (late comers will not be allowed).
2. Application form:
Download the prescribed form from DRDO website (Vacancies) and fill it.
3. Email submission:
Email the duly filled form with supporting documents as a single PDF (<10 MB) to hrd.dysl-sm@gov.in before appearing for the interview.
4. Carry originals:
Bring all original certificates, one set of self-attested copies, and a recent passport-size photograph affixed on the application form.

Selection Process

1. Screening:
Shortlisting based on GATE score, marks secured in degree, fulfilment of desirability criteria and relevant work experience (if any).
2. Interview:
Eligible candidates will be interviewed at DYSL-SM on the scheduled date and time.
3. Panel validity:
A panel for the anticipated vacancy will be drawn and will be valid for one year; empanelment does not guarantee offer of fellowship.

Reservation Details

1. Age relaxation:
5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC, or as per Government guidelines.
2. Caste certificate:
Self-attested caste certificate copy must be attached if claiming relaxation.

Document Requirements

1. Original documents:
All original certificates of degrees, mark sheets, and experience (if any) to be produced at interview.
2. Self-attested copies:
One set of self-attested copies of all educational and experience certificates.
3. Photograph:
Recent passport size photograph affixed on the top-right corner of the first page of the application form.
4. GATE proof:
Proof of valid GATE score in the relevant subject.
5. NOC:
No Objection Certificate if employed in Govt/PSU/Autonomous body.

Important Instructions

1. Late entry:
Late comers will not be allowed for the interview.
2. No TA/DA:
No TA/DA will be paid for attending interview or for joining, if selected.
3. Tenure:
The JRF is temporary; initial tenure is 2 years.
4. Absorption:
Offer of fellowship does not confer any right for absorption in DRDO.
5. Ph.D. registration:
JRFs may be allowed to register for part-time Ph.D. during the fellowship with approval of Director, DYSL-SM.
6. Administrative rights:
DYSL-SM reserves the right to amend/modify or cancel the advertisement and vary the number of fellowships as per requirement.
