Selection Process
- 1. Phase I:
- Objective type offline test — 40 marks, 45 minutes, 40 multiple-choice questions covering General Knowledge, General English, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and subject-based topics
- 2. Phase II:
- Descriptive type written test — 30 marks, 90 minutes, subject-based questions
- 3. Phase III:
- Group Discussion (10 marks) and Personal Interview (20 marks), held at Hooghly CSL through electronic media
- 4. Weightage:
- Objective type test 40 marks, Descriptive type test 30 marks, Group Discussion 10 marks, Personal Interview 20 marks — total 100 marks
- 5. Minimum pass marks:
- Unreserved post: 50% of total marks of each test. OBC candidates: 45% of total marks of the objective type test only, for vacancies reserved for OBC.
- 6. Descriptive evaluation:
- Descriptive test answer sheets shall be evaluated only for candidates who secure the minimum pass mark in the objective type test and meet the notified eligibility requirements
- 7. Shortlisting ratio:
- Candidates shall be shortlisted for further selection in the minimum ratio of 6 candidates against the post in order of merit; the selection process shall proceed even if fewer than 1:6
- 8. Certificate verification:
- Only those candidates who successfully complete certificate verification and secure pass marks shall be allowed to attend the Group Discussion and Personal Interview
- 9. Rank list and tie-break:
- Rank list prepared on total marks across all selection parameters. Ties are resolved first on marks in the subject part of the objective test, and thereafter on seniority in age.
Document Requirements
- 1. OBC (Non-Creamy Layer):
- A valid recent community certificate in the prescribed format issued by a Revenue Authority not below the rank of Tahsildar
- 2. Experience proof:
- Experience certificates from companies registered under the Companies Act 1956 or foreign companies of equivalent status. In their absence, a copy of the appointment or offer letter, latest pay slip or last pay drawn, and CTC certificate or IT Form-16.
- 3. Government servants:
- Declaration as per Annexure I that the employer has been informed in writing
- 4. Ex-servicemen:
- Discharge Certificate/Book or Pension Payment Order from the Armed Forces, and an undertaking as per Annexure II that they have not been re-employed in Government after availing ex-serviceman benefits
- 5. Undertaking proforma (to be uploaded):
- Applicants presently serving in a Government department/organisation must submit an Undertaking declaring they have intimated their employer in writing about submitting the online application for selection to a post in Hooghly CSL.
- 6. Employer details in Undertaking:
- The Undertaking must include the Reporting Officer’s Name, Designation, Mobile Number and Email ID.
- 7. Consent & consequence in Undertaking:
- Candidate consents to HCSL contacting the employer; if any objection is received from the employer, the candidate will have no claim for selection to the post.
- 8. Execution of Undertaking:
- The Undertaking must carry the candidate’s signature and name, and mention the place and date.
Important Instructions
- 1. Call letters:
- Call letters shall not be sent by post. Shortlisted candidates shall be informed by email or through the CSL and HCSL websites to download them, and should check the websites frequently for updates.
- 2. Travel reimbursement:
- Candidates appearing for Personal Interview shall be reimbursed single to-and-fro third AC rail fare by the shortest route on production of proof, subject to submitting bank passbook details at certificate verification. This does not apply where selection is conducted through electronic media.
- 3. Provisional candidature:
- Candidature is purely provisional, subject to verification of original certificates at joining or any other stage. False or incorrect information or suppression of facts will lead to cancellation without further notice.
- 4. Medical examination:
- Candidates shortlisted for appointment must undergo a medical examination in hospitals prescribed by Hooghly CSL; appointment may be subject to certification of medical fitness
- 5. Character verification:
- Appointment of selected candidates will be subject to verification of character and antecedents, and of caste certificates where applicable
- 6. Jurisdiction:
- Any legal proceedings arising out of this advertisement can be instituted only in the Courts, Tribunals or Forums at Howrah/Kolkata, which shall have sole and exclusive jurisdiction

- 2. Two phases:
- One-time Registration in the SAP online portal, followed by submission of the application against the post. Applicants should not submit more than one application; an application once submitted is final.
- 3. Window:
- Applications can be submitted online from 25.06.2025 to 24.07.2025. Applications submitted direct or by any other mode shall not be accepted.
- 4. Uploads:
- All certificates proving age, educational qualification, experience, caste and disability, plus a recent passport size colour photograph, must be uploaded, failing which the candidature shall be rejected
- 5. Registration number:
- Applicants should retain a soft copy or printout of the online application containing the unique registration number, which is generated only on successful submission and must be quoted in any correspondence
- 6. No postal submission:
- Applicants need not send the printout, certificates or application fee by post to Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Ltd
- 7. Timing advice:
- Applicants applying on the last date may not receive troubleshooting or technical support by email or phone after 1600 hrs
Exam Pattern
- 1. Objective Type Test:
- Carries 40% of the total marks.
- 2. Descriptive Type Test:
- Carries 30% of the total marks.
- 3. Group Discussion & Personal Interview:
- Carries 30% of the total marks.
Selection Process
- 1. Phase I:
- Objective type offline test — 40 marks, 45 minutes, 40 multiple-choice questions covering General Knowledge, General English, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and subject-based topics
- 2. Phase II:
- Descriptive type written test — 30 marks, 90 minutes, subject-based questions
- 3. Phase III:
- Group Discussion (10 marks) and Personal Interview (20 marks), held at Hooghly CSL through electronic media
- 4. Weightage:
- Objective type test 40 marks, Descriptive type test 30 marks, Group Discussion 10 marks, Personal Interview 20 marks — total 100 marks
- 5. Minimum pass marks:
- Unreserved post: 50% of total marks of each test. OBC candidates: 45% of total marks of the objective type test only, for vacancies reserved for OBC.
- 6. Descriptive evaluation:
- Descriptive test answer sheets shall be evaluated only for candidates who secure the minimum pass mark in the objective type test and meet the notified eligibility requirements
- 7. Shortlisting ratio:
- Candidates shall be shortlisted for further selection in the minimum ratio of 6 candidates against the post in order of merit; the selection process shall proceed even if fewer than 1:6
- 8. Certificate verification:
- Only those candidates who successfully complete certificate verification and secure pass marks shall be allowed to attend the Group Discussion and Personal Interview
- 9. Rank list and tie-break:
- Rank list prepared on total marks across all selection parameters. Ties are resolved first on marks in the subject part of the objective test, and thereafter on seniority in age.
Document Requirements
- 1. OBC (Non-Creamy Layer):
- A valid recent community certificate in the prescribed format issued by a Revenue Authority not below the rank of Tahsildar
- 2. Experience proof:
- Experience certificates from companies registered under the Companies Act 1956 or foreign companies of equivalent status. In their absence, a copy of the appointment or offer letter, latest pay slip or last pay drawn, and CTC certificate or IT Form-16.
- 3. Government servants:
- Declaration as per Annexure I that the employer has been informed in writing
- 4. Ex-servicemen:
- Discharge Certificate/Book or Pension Payment Order from the Armed Forces, and an undertaking as per Annexure II that they have not been re-employed in Government after availing ex-serviceman benefits
- 5. Undertaking proforma (to be uploaded):
- Applicants presently serving in a Government department/organisation must submit an Undertaking declaring they have intimated their employer in writing about submitting the online application for selection to a post in Hooghly CSL.
- 6. Employer details in Undertaking:
- The Undertaking must include the Reporting Officer’s Name, Designation, Mobile Number and Email ID.
- 7. Consent & consequence in Undertaking:
- Candidate consents to HCSL contacting the employer; if any objection is received from the employer, the candidate will have no claim for selection to the post.
- 8. Execution of Undertaking:
- The Undertaking must carry the candidate’s signature and name, and mention the place and date.
Important Instructions
- 1. Call letters:
- Call letters shall not be sent by post. Shortlisted candidates shall be informed by email or through the CSL and HCSL websites to download them, and should check the websites frequently for updates.
- 2. Travel reimbursement:
- Candidates appearing for Personal Interview shall be reimbursed single to-and-fro third AC rail fare by the shortest route on production of proof, subject to submitting bank passbook details at certificate verification. This does not apply where selection is conducted through electronic media.
- 3. Provisional candidature:
- Candidature is purely provisional, subject to verification of original certificates at joining or any other stage. False or incorrect information or suppression of facts will lead to cancellation without further notice.
- 4. Medical examination:
- Candidates shortlisted for appointment must undergo a medical examination in hospitals prescribed by Hooghly CSL; appointment may be subject to certification of medical fitness
- 5. Character verification:
- Appointment of selected candidates will be subject to verification of character and antecedents, and of caste certificates where applicable
- 6. Jurisdiction:
- Any legal proceedings arising out of this advertisement can be instituted only in the Courts, Tribunals or Forums at Howrah/Kolkata, which shall have sole and exclusive jurisdiction
- 7. Amendments:
- Any amendment, modification or addition to this advertisement shall be given on the HCSL/CSL website only
- 8. Document retention:
- All documents related to this selection shall be preserved for two years from the date of publication of results
Interview Details
- 1. Interview Process:
- The interview process includes a Group Discussion and Personal Interview, carrying 30% of the total marks.
- 2. Travel Reimbursement:
- Candidates shortlisted for the interview will be reimbursed single to & fro third AC Rail fare as per company rules.
Disqualification Criteria
- 1. Canvassing:
- Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification
- 2. Incomplete applications:
- Incomplete, withdrawn or draft-status applications shall not be considered; filling garbage or junk details in any field can lead to rejection
- 3. Missing certificates:
- Failure to upload certificates establishing the experience claimed shall lead to cancellation of candidature
- 4. Ineligibility:
- No correspondence regarding rejection of an application on grounds of ineligibility shall be entertained
