The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has released an official notification providing guidelines for Aadhaar number holders. The notification emphasizes the importance of secure handling and usage of Aadhaar numbers, outlines dos and don'ts for users, and highlights the facilities provided by UIDAI for secure authentication.

1. Aadhaar as Digital Identity:
Aadhaar serves as a digital identity for individuals across India, enabling access to various government, banking, and telecom services.
2. Secure Sharing of Aadhaar:
Users should exercise caution when sharing their Aadhaar number, similar to sharing other sensitive information like mobile numbers or bank details.
3. Consent Requirement:
Entities requesting Aadhaar must obtain user consent, specifying the purpose of usage.
4. Virtual Identifier (VID):
UIDAI provides a facility to generate a Virtual Identifier (VID) for authentication, which can be used instead of the Aadhaar number.
5. Authentication History:
Users can check their Aadhaar authentication history for the last six months on the UIDAI website or m-Aadhaar app.
6. Email Intimations:
Linking an updated email ID with Aadhaar ensures users receive notifications for every authentication.
7. Mobile Number Update:
Keeping the mobile number updated with Aadhaar is crucial for OTP-based authentication services.
8. Aadhaar and Biometric Locking:
UIDAI offers Aadhaar and biometric locking facilities for enhanced security, which can be unlocked as needed.
9. Contact UIDAI for Queries:
For any unauthorized use or queries related to Aadhaar, users can contact UIDAI's toll-free helpline 1947 or email help@uidai.gov.in.
