POWERGRID (a Maharatna PSU) invites applications for Engineer Trainee-2026 in Electrical, Electronics, Civil and Computer Science through GATE 2026. Candidates must qualify the corresponding GATE 2026 paper and meet degree requirements (minimum 60% or equivalent CGPA; final-year candidates with results by 14.08.2026 may apply). Upper age is 28 years as on 31.12.2025 with relaxations for reserved categories as per GoI. Selection comprises shortlisting by normalized GATE 2026 score, followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview (PI qualifying marks: 40% UR/EWS; 30% OBC/SC/ST/PwBD for reserved posts); GD has no qualifying marks. Selection Process
- 1. Shortlisting basis:
- Normalized GATE 2026 marks (out of 100) in the corresponding paper; only GATE 2026 score is valid.
- 2. Selection stages:
- GATE 2026 score-based shortlisting, Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
- 3. Weightage:
- GATE 2026: 85%; Group Discussion: 3%; Personal Interview: 12%.
- 4. PI qualifying marks:
- UR/EWS: 40%; OBC(NCL)/SC/ST/PwBD: 30% (for posts reserved for the corresponding category).
- 5. GD qualifying:
- Group Discussion has no qualifying marks.
- 6. Other conditions:
- Psychometric assessment may be conducted (input for interview); tie-breaking by date of birth (elder first); medical fitness as per POWERGRID norms is mandatory.
- 7. Language option:
- Candidates may attend GD/Interview in Hindi or English.
Reservation Details
- 1. Reservation policy:
- Reservation/relaxation/concession for OBC(NCL)/SC/ST/EWS/PwBD/Ex-SM/J&K Domiciled/Victims of riots as per Government of India directives.
- 2. Vacancy & reservation notice:

- 7. Category certificates:
- SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/EWS/PwBD certificates must be in GoI prescribed formats; certified translation required if issued in a language other than Hindi/English.
- 8. OBC(NCL) validity:
- OBC(NCL) certificate based on income for FY 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25, issued on/after 01.04.2025; self-undertaking to be given at PI if shortlisted.
- 9. EWS validity:
- EWS Income & Asset Certificate based on FY 2024-25 income, issued on/after 01.04.2025; caste name must be clearly mentioned.
- 10. PwBD documentation:
- PwBD to submit medical certificate in prescribed format and UDID card/certificate.
Document Requirements
- 1. GATE documents:
- GATE 2026 Admit Card and Score Card to be produced during GD/Interview/medical/joining.
- 2. SC/ST certificate:
- Caste certificate in GoI prescribed format for appointment to posts under Govt. of India.
- 3. OBC(NCL) certificate:
- Based on FY 2022-23, 2023-24 & 2024-25 income, issued on/after 01.04.2025; self-undertaking at PI if shortlisted.
- 4. EWS certificate:
- Income & Asset Certificate based on FY 2024-25, issued on/after 01.04.2025 with caste name clearly mentioned.
- 5. PwBD certificate & UDID:
- Medical certificate in prescribed format issued by Government Medical Board and UDID card/certificate.
- 6. NOC:
- No Objection Certificate at the time of Interview for candidates working in Govt. organizations/PSUs.
- 7. Translations:
- Certified translation in Hindi or English if caste/category certificate is issued in another language.
Important Instructions
- 1. Eligibility check:
- Candidates must ensure they meet all eligibility norms before applying; mere appearance in GATE 2026 or submission of application does not guarantee further consideration.
- 2. Future studies:
- Graduates desirous of pursuing further studies on the basis of GATE 2026 or seeking extended joining time should not apply.
- 3. Posting liability:
- Selected candidates can be posted anywhere in India or abroad across POWERGRID/its Subsidiaries/JVs/other bodies.
- 4. Management rights:
- POWERGRID may cancel/restrict/modify the recruitment/selection process without further notice.
- 5. Departmental status:
- Trainees working in POWERGRID are not considered Departmental candidates; Departmental candidates should refer to the internal circular.
- 6. Updates medium:
- All recruitment information will be available only on the POWERGRID website; correspondence will be through registered email ID/candidate login.
- 7. Detailed notification:
- A detailed notification with vacancies, category-wise breakup and application formalities shall be issued shortly on the Career page; candidates should check the website regularly.
Interview Details
- 1. Call letters:
- Shortlisted candidates can download interview call letters and relevant documents through candidate login.
- 2. Documents at interview:
- Candidates must bring documents as mentioned in the interview call letter.
- 3. Language:
- GD/Interview can be attended in Hindi or English.
Training Details
- 1. Training duration:
- One-year training period with basic pay of Rs. 40,000 in IDA scale Rs. 40,000–3%–1,40,000.
- 2. Post-training absorption:
- On successful completion, absorption as Engineer in E2 scale Rs. 50,000–3%–1,60,000.
Bond or Service Agreement
- 1. Service agreement bond:
- Rs. 5,00,000 for General/OBC(NCL)/EWS and Rs. 2,50,000 for SC/ST/PwBD; to serve the organization for at least three years post-training.
Disqualification Criteria
- 1. False information:
- Candidature may be rejected/terminated at any stage if information is false/misleading or eligibility is not met, or if unfair means are adopted.
- 2. Technical issues:
- Complaints due to client system incompatibility, user ignorance, or internet unavailability will not be entertained.

- 1. Subsidiaries recruitment:
- POWERGRID may also use GATE 2026 scores for recruitment to other positions/posts for its Subsidiaries depending on requirement.
