POWERGRID (Power Grid Corporation of India Limited), a 'Maharatna' Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, invites online applications for engagement of experienced personnel on a purely temporary and contractual basis for the Revamped Distribution Sector Reform Scheme (RDSS), under which the Ministry of Power has designated 4 crore smart prepaid meters to be implemented by central public sector enterprises including POWERGRID. A total of 800 positions are notified across five posts: Field Engineer (Electrical), Field Engineer (Electronics & Communication), Field Engineer (IT), Field Supervisor (Electrical) and Field Supervisor (Electronics & Communication). The engagement is for 24 months initially or till completion of the projects, whichever is earlier, and personnel may be posted anywhere in India.

- 50 questions based on the engineering syllabus (Field Engineer) or the diploma syllabus (Field Supervisor) in the relevant discipline
- 3. Aptitude Test:
- 25 questions on logical reasoning, data interpretation, comprehension, vocabulary, data sufficiency and numerical ability
- 4. Question type:
- All questions are MCQs with 4 options carrying 1 mark each; there is no negative marking
- 5. Qualifying marks:
- Minimum 40% for Unreserved including EWS and 30% for reserved vacancies
- 6. Language:
- Hindi or English, at the candidate's option
- 7. Re-evaluation:
- There is no provision for re-checking or re-evaluation of answer sheets or answers
Selection Process
- 1. Field Engineer - method:
- Selection involves an interview only, of eligible and shortlisted candidates. Management reserves the right to raise the minimum eligibility standards and / or conduct a screening test to restrict the number called for personal interview.
- 2. Field Engineer - screening test:
- If conducted, the screening test is for elimination only and carries no weightage in the final merit; candidates who qualify are called for interview based on their performance
- 3. Field Engineer - merit:
- Merit is drawn purely on performance in the interview. Qualifying marks in the interview are 40% for Unreserved including EWS and 30% for reserved posts.
- 4. Field Supervisor - method:
- Selection is on the basis of scrutiny of applications against the eligibility criteria and desired experience profile, followed by a screening test of the candidates found eligible
- 5. Field Supervisor - merit:
- Candidates qualifying in the screening test are empanelled in order of merit of marks obtained in the screening test
- 6. Offer:
- The offer of contractual engagement is issued to suitable candidates on the basis of merit and requirement, subject to medical fitness
- 7. Finality:
- The decision of POWERGRID regarding scrutiny of applications and shortlisting is final and binding
Admit Card Details
- 1. Availability:
- The admit card indicating roll number, name of the allocated test centre and test guidelines is made available on the POWERGRID website to candidates found apparently eligible on the basis of online data; it is not sent by post and must be downloaded by the candidate
Reservation Details
- 1. General:
- Reservation, relaxation and concession for SC / ST / OBC (NCL) / EWS / PwBD / Ex-Servicemen / J&K Domicile / Victims of Riots candidates is as per Government of India guidelines, subject to submission of the prescribed certificates at the time of application and interview
- 2. Ex-Servicemen age relaxation:
- Ex-Servicemen with a minimum of six months' continuous service get age relaxation to the extent of the period spent in service plus three years, subject to the resultant age not exceeding the prescribed age limit by more than three years
- 3. Serving and former POWERGRID contract personnel:
- Candidates who have worked in POWERGRID as Field Engineer / AE (FTB) or Field Supervisor / JE (FTB) for at least one year, and are still working or have separated, may apply afresh and get upper age relaxation to the extent of their POWERGRID service subject to a maximum of 5 years over and above the category relaxation; a service certificate is essential
- 4. Proper channel:
- Field Engineers / Field Supervisors currently working in POWERGRID must apply through proper channel via the concerned regional HR department, with vigilance clearance and performance feedback; applications not forwarded through proper channel are not entertained
- 5. Third-party personnel:
- Contractual personnel engaged through a third party are not treated as POWERGRID FTB / FE / FS employees
- 6. UR vacancies:
- SC / ST / EWS / OBC (NCL) candidates may apply against Unreserved vacancies subject to meeting all general standards of eligibility
Document Requirements
- 1. At application:

Exam Pattern
- 1. Duration:
- 1 hour
- 2. Technical Knowledge Test:
- 50 questions based on the engineering syllabus (Field Engineer) or the diploma syllabus (Field Supervisor) in the relevant discipline
- 3. Aptitude Test:
- 25 questions on logical reasoning, data interpretation, comprehension, vocabulary, data sufficiency and numerical ability
- 4. Question type:
- All questions are MCQs with 4 options carrying 1 mark each; there is no negative marking
- 5. Qualifying marks:
- Minimum 40% for Unreserved including EWS and 30% for reserved vacancies
- 6. Language:
- Hindi or English, at the candidate's option
- 7. Re-evaluation:
- There is no provision for re-checking or re-evaluation of answer sheets or answers
Selection Process
- 1. Field Engineer - method:
- Selection involves an interview only, of eligible and shortlisted candidates. Management reserves the right to raise the minimum eligibility standards and / or conduct a screening test to restrict the number called for personal interview.
- 2. Field Engineer - screening test:
- If conducted, the screening test is for elimination only and carries no weightage in the final merit; candidates who qualify are called for interview based on their performance
- 3. Field Engineer - merit:
- Merit is drawn purely on performance in the interview. Qualifying marks in the interview are 40% for Unreserved including EWS and 30% for reserved posts.
- 4. Field Supervisor - method:
- Selection is on the basis of scrutiny of applications against the eligibility criteria and desired experience profile, followed by a screening test of the candidates found eligible
- 5. Field Supervisor - merit:
- Candidates qualifying in the screening test are empanelled in order of merit of marks obtained in the screening test
- 6. Offer:
- The offer of contractual engagement is issued to suitable candidates on the basis of merit and requirement, subject to medical fitness
- 7. Finality:
- The decision of POWERGRID regarding scrutiny of applications and shortlisting is final and binding
Admit Card Details
- 1. Availability:
- The admit card indicating roll number, name of the allocated test centre and test guidelines is made available on the POWERGRID website to candidates found apparently eligible on the basis of online data; it is not sent by post and must be downloaded by the candidate
Reservation Details
- 1. General:
- Reservation, relaxation and concession for SC / ST / OBC (NCL) / EWS / PwBD / Ex-Servicemen / J&K Domicile / Victims of Riots candidates is as per Government of India guidelines, subject to submission of the prescribed certificates at the time of application and interview
- 2. Ex-Servicemen age relaxation:
- Ex-Servicemen with a minimum of six months' continuous service get age relaxation to the extent of the period spent in service plus three years, subject to the resultant age not exceeding the prescribed age limit by more than three years
- 3. Serving and former POWERGRID contract personnel:
- Candidates who have worked in POWERGRID as Field Engineer / AE (FTB) or Field Supervisor / JE (FTB) for at least one year, and are still working or have separated, may apply afresh and get upper age relaxation to the extent of their POWERGRID service subject to a maximum of 5 years over and above the category relaxation; a service certificate is essential
- 4. Proper channel:
- Field Engineers / Field Supervisors currently working in POWERGRID must apply through proper channel via the concerned regional HR department, with vigilance clearance and performance feedback; applications not forwarded through proper channel are not entertained
- 5. Third-party personnel:
- Contractual personnel engaged through a third party are not treated as POWERGRID FTB / FE / FS employees
- 6. UR vacancies:
- SC / ST / EWS / OBC (NCL) candidates may apply against Unreserved vacancies subject to meeting all general standards of eligibility
Document Requirements
- 1. At application:
- Photograph, signature, date-of-birth proof, qualification certificates and all mark sheets, CGPA-to-percentage conversion norms, experience / service certificates, NOC where applicable, and category certificates in the prescribed GOI formats
- 2. At verification:
- Shortlisted candidates must produce all uploaded documents in original at the time of document verification, interview, medical examination or joining, with self-attested photocopies
- 3. Experience proof:
- Experience or service certificate on the organisation's letterhead indicating the post held, period of service, pay scale / emoluments and area of experience, plus the latest salary slip
- 4. Translations:
- Certificates issued in a language other than Hindi or English must be accompanied by a certified translation
Important Instructions
- 1. Verification of antecedents:
- Field Engineers / Field Supervisors must submit a Police Verification Report / Employee Verification Report on character and antecedents; if not submitted at joining they may join provisionally and must submit within 3 months, failing which the engagement is automatically terminated
- 2. National Skills Registry:
- Candidates must register with the National Skills Registry (https://nationalskillsregistry.com/) and get identity, biometrics, essential qualification and previous employment verified at their own cost before joining or within 3 months of joining, failing which the engagement is automatically terminated
- 3. No regular employment claim:
- Personnel engaged are not entitled to claim regular employment in POWERGRID or any relaxation in recruitment for regular posts
- 4. Electronic devices:
- Mobile phones, pagers, iPads, iPods, tablets, phablets, smart watches or any other electronic device are strictly prohibited inside the examination hall; possession may lead to disqualification
- 5. Travel reimbursement:
- Candidates called for interview for Field Engineer posts are reimbursed second class rail / bus fare by the shortest route; for the screening test only SC / ST / PwBD candidates are reimbursed sleeper class rail / bus fare
- 6. Management rights:
- Management reserves the right to cancel, restrict, enlarge, modify or alter the recruitment / selection process without notice, and to raise or lower qualifying standards at any stage
- 7. Jurisdiction:
- Legal jurisdiction is the NCT of Delhi in case of any cause or dispute
- 8. Correspondence:
- No correspondence regarding this recruitment made in POWERGRID's Complaint Management System is entertained
Disqualification Criteria
- 1. Misrepresentation:
- Candidature is liable to be rejected at any stage, and services terminated if already joined, if any information furnished is not in conformity with the notified eligibility criteria, or if any qualification, experience or particular is found unrecognised, false or misleading, or amounts to suppression of information, or if the candidate has used unfair means
