Eligibility Criteria:
- Classification: General Central Service, Group ‘A’, Gazetted (Non‑Ministerial).
- Pay Level: Level‑11 in the pay matrix (Rs. 67,700 – 2,08,700).
- Method of recruitment: 20% by promotion failing which by deputation (including short term contract); 80% by deputation (including short term contract).
- Promotion eligibility: Assistant Editor (English) or Assistant Editor (Hindi) in Level‑7 (Rs. 44,900 – 1,42,400) with seven years’ regular service in the grade.
- Deputation service eligibility: Officers under Central/State Govts/UTs/PSUs/Statutory/Autonomous organizations/Universities/Recognized Research Institutions: holding analogous post; or with 5 years’ service in Level‑10; or 7 years in Level‑9; or 8 years in Level‑8; or 9 years in Level‑7.
- Deputation essential qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from a recognized University or Institute.
- Deputation essential experience: Three years’ experience in agricultural extension in one or more of the following: planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring, training, farm communication, gender issues/women’s programmes; or teaching at college/university level in agriculture, agricultural extension or allied subjects.
- Deputation desirable qualification: Master's Degree in Agriculture / Agricultural Extension and allied disciplines Agriculture from a recognized University or Institute.
- Deputation desirable experience: Experience handling agricultural information, mass media, farm extension literature, agriculture exhibitions, production of audio‑visual materials on agriculture and agricultural films.
- UPSC consultation: Consultation with UPSC is necessary for appointment to the post on promotion basis.

- Promotion eligibility: Extension Officer in Level‑10 (Rs. 56,100 – 1,77,800) with five years’ regular service in the grade and successful completion of two to four weeks’ training in Agricultural Extension.
- Deputation service eligibility: Officers under Central/State Govts/UTs/PSUs/Statutory/Autonomous organizations/Universities/Recognized Research Institutions: analogous post; or 5 years in Level‑10; or 7 years in Level‑9; or 8 years in Level‑8; or 9 years in Level‑7.
- Deputation essential qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from a recognized University or Institute.
