2. Two-part form:
Part one is registration (name, nationality, mobile number, e-mail, Bihar domicile, reservation category, gender and date of birth) followed by fee payment; part two is filled after logging in with the registration number and password sent by SMS and e-mail
3. One application only:
One candidate may submit only one online application and one mobile number may be used for only one application; multiple applications lead to all of them being rejected

Exam Pattern

1. Paper 1 - General Hindi:
50 multiple-choice questions, 100 marks, 1 hour; +2 per correct answer, -0.2 per wrong answer; qualifying only, minimum 30 marks; marks not counted for merit
2. Paper 2 - General Studies:
100 multiple-choice questions, 300 marks, 2 hours; +3 per correct answer, -0.3 per wrong answer
3. Interview:
50 marks, added to the written total
4. Physical fitness test:
Men 25 km walk in 4 hours; women 14 km walk in 4 hours

Selection Process

1. Overall:
Selection is made on the basis of a written examination, an interview and a physical fitness test
2. Written examination, Paper 1:
General Hindi, 50 multiple-choice questions for 100 marks in 1 hour. 02 marks for each correct answer and 0.2 marks deducted for each wrong one. A minimum of 30 marks is compulsory, failing which the candidate is declared ineligible; the marks are not counted towards merit
3. Written examination, Paper 2:
General studies - general knowledge and current affairs, general science, civics, Indian history, Indian geography, mathematics and mental ability - 100 multiple-choice questions for 300 marks in 2 hours. 03 marks for each correct answer and 0.3 marks deducted for each wrong one
4. Shortlisting for interview:
Six times the number of vacancies are selected category-wise on merit from the written examination and invited for interview; the ratio may be reduced if enough qualified candidates are not available
5. Interview:
50 marks. The candidate's whole personality and suitability for the post of Range Officer of Forests are assessed. Interview marks are added to the written examination marks and the final merit list is made from the total
6. Physical fitness test:
Held for candidates invited to interview, under rule 8(4) of the Bihar Range Officer of Forests Cadre (Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2013. Men of all categories walk 25 kilometres within 4 hours and women of all categories walk 14 kilometres within 4 hours; those taking longer are declared unsuccessful. A candidate who fails the physical fitness test is not recommended for appointment on the strength of the written examination and interview marks alone
7. Merit list:
Prepared category-wise from the combined marks of the written examination and the interview. Ties are broken by date of birth (older first), then by higher educational qualification, then by the English alphabetical order of the name on the 10th board certificate
8. Minimum qualifying marks for the merit list:
32 per cent for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and women candidates; 34 per cent for the Extremely Backward Class; 36.5 per cent for the Backward Class; and 40 per cent for the general category

Admit cards for the written examination are issued online to candidates with a valid application by the closing date; information is given through newspapers and the Commission's website, and by SMS and e-mail

Reservation Details

1. Women:
35 per cent horizontal reservation in every reservation category, on the 97 per cent of posts left after the 3 per cent reserved for women of the Backward Classes; admissible only to women who are original residents of Bihar. Women may also be appointed on merit over and above the 35 per cent
2. Grandchildren of freedom fighters:
2 per cent horizontal reservation - 01 post - for the grandchildren of freedom fighters of Bihar whose pension is sanctioned by the central government
3. Economically Weaker Section:
Certificate must be based on income and assets of financial year 2025-2026; for a married, divorced or deserted woman it is valid only if issued on the basis of General Administration Department letter no. 5622 dated 24.03.2026
4. Third gender:
Kinnar, Kothi, Hijra and transgender persons receive the benefit of Backward Class reservation; gender is determined by the identity certificate issued by the District Magistrate
5. Domicile:
Every kind of reservation, including the 35 per cent for women, is available only to original residents of Bihar; candidates in a reserved category of another state must apply as unreserved, failing which they are held ineligible
