How to Apply

1. Portal:
Apply online at https://upsconline.nic.in using the Universal Registration Number (URN) and Common Application Form (CAF).
2. Live photo & signatures:
Upload photograph and capture a live photograph; upload a signature image containing three signatures made in black ink on plain white paper.
3. Photo ID:
Provide details and upload a scanned copy of one valid Photo ID (Aadhaar/Voter ID/PAN/Passport/Driving Licence/other Govt. Photo ID) and carry the same ID to the exam.
4. Submission window:
Online Applications (Part‑I to Part‑IV) can be filled from 04th February, 2026 to 24th February, 2026 till 18:00 hrs.
5. Single application:
Multiple applications should not be submitted; application withdrawal is not allowed after submission.

Exam Pattern

1. Stages:
(i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective type) for screening; (ii) Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination (Written) and Interview.
2. Preliminary papers:
Two objective papers of 200 marks each; General Studies Paper‑II (CSAT) is qualifying with minimum 33%.
3. Negative marking:
One‑third of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for each wrong answer in objective papers.
4. Mains papers:
Six conventional (essay) papers: General English (300), General Knowledge (300), and two optional subjects with two papers each (200 marks per paper). All papers must be answered in English; question papers are set in English only.
5. Interview/Personality Test:
300 marks; final ranking based on marks in the written part of Mains and the Interview.
6. Objections to questions/answer key:
Online QPRep window remains open for Five (05) Days from the 3rd day of the Examination Date to 6:00 p.m. of the 7th day.

Syllabus Details

1. Preliminary syllabus:
GS Paper‑I: History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Environment & Ecology, Science, Current events. CSAT Paper‑II: Comprehension, interpersonal skills, logical reasoning, decision making, basic numeracy and data interpretation (Class X level).
2. Mains papers:
General English, General Knowledge, and any two optional subjects; list includes Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Forestry, Geology, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Statistics, Zoology (two papers per subject).
3. General instructions (Mains):
Three hours per paper; use of non‑programmable scientific calculator allowed in conventional papers; all answers in English.

Selection Process

1. Screening and ratios:
Candidates about 12–13 times the number of vacancies will be admitted to the Main Examination; about twice the number of vacancies will be called for Interview.
2. Verification:
Verification of eligibility with original documents is taken up only after the candidate has qualified for Interview/Personality Test.
3. Tie‑breaking:
Applied using marks in compulsory papers and interview; then compulsory papers alone; then seniority in age; further resolution at Commission’s discretion.

Admit Card Details

1. Release schedule:
E‑Admit card issued on the last working day of the preceding week of the exam; for candidates who changed scribe 7 days prior, e‑Admit card issued 3 days prior.

Reservation Details

1. Category‑wise vacancies:
UR 33, OBC 21, SC 12, ST 6, EWS 8 (total approximately 80).
2. PwBD:
Total 05 (03 current + 02 backlog) reserved across (a) Blindness/Low Vision – 01, (b) Deaf/Hard of Hearing – 01, (c) Locomotor Disability (including leprosy cured and acid attack victims) – 03.
3. PwBD suitability:
Reservation in IFoS applies to Low Vision, Hearing Impaired (Partially deaf) and Locomotor Disability (Leprosy Cured and Acid Attack Victims only); functional classifications and physical requirements apply.
4. OBC/EWS certification:
OBC (NCL) certificate based on FY 2024‑25, 2023‑24, 2022‑23 and issued on/after 01.04.2025; EWS certificate based on FY 2024‑25 and issued on/after 01.04.2025; both not later than 24.02.2026.
5. Determination date:
The closing date for the online application (24th February, 2026) will be treated as the date for determining OBC status (including creamy layer).
6. Change of category:
Requests to change community/category after submission will not be entertained as per notice.

Document Requirements

1. Matriculation details:
Candidate’s Name, Parents’ Names and Date of Birth in the application must exactly match the Matriculation certificate.
2. Photo ID:
Upload a scanned copy of a valid Photo ID (Aadhaar/Voter ID/PAN/Passport/Driving Licence/other Govt. Photo ID) and carry the same to the exam.
3. Photograph and signature:
Upload photo and capture live photograph; upload a signature image containing three signatures in black ink on plain white paper.
4. PwBD certificates:
Submit disability certificate from a Government Hospital/Medical Board for fee concession/age relaxation; proforma for scribe/compensatory time is provided in Appendices IV–VIII.
5. Caste/EWS certificates:
OBC (NCL) and EWS certificates must adhere to the financial year and date requirements stated in the notice.
6. Proof of qualification (Mains/Interview):
Qualified candidates must upload proof of passing the requisite degree within the prescribed timelines after Preliminary/Mains results as directed.

Preparation Tips

Interview Details

300 marks (no minimum qualifying marks).
2. Assessment focus:
Intellectual curiosity, observation, judgment, leadership, social cohesion, mental and physical energy, and suitability for the Service.

Training Details

1. Training Period:
Selected candidates undergo a two-year training program at designated academies, including the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy for IFS officers.
2. Training Content:
Training includes foundational courses in forestry, wildlife management, and environmental conservation, preparing candidates for their responsibilities in the Indian Forest Service.
3. Field Training:
