Job Details

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, are recruiting 11,127 Assistant Loco Pilots (ALP) through Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) No. 01/2026. The post sits at Level-2 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix with an initial pay of Rs. 19,900 and carries medical standard A-1, the most stringent visual and physical standard used by the Railways. Vacancies are distributed across 21 Railway Recruitment Boards and 16 Railway Zones; a candidate applies to exactly one RRB and gives an order of preference for the Railway Zones notified under that RRB. Applications are accepted online only, through the link provided on the official RRB websites. Eligibility is Matriculation/SSLC together with an ITI from an NCVT/SCVT recognised institution in one of the specified trades, or a Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in those trades, or a three-year Diploma (or a Degree) in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Automobile Engineering. Selected candidates undergo training on a stipend, may be required to execute a security or indemnity bond, and are liable for active service in the Railway Engineers' Unit of the Territorial Army.

Posting: A Railway servant is ordinarily employed throughout service on the Zonal Railway or Production Unit to which he or she is first posted, and has no right to transfer to another Railway. Fee Structure

Application Fee

1. All candidates except those listed below:: Rs. 500. Of this, Rs. 400 is refunded, after deduction of bank charges, on appearing in the First Stage CBT.
2. SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, female, transgender, minority and Economically Backward Class (EBC) candidates:: Rs. 250. This fee is refunded in due course, after deduction of bank charges as applicable, on appearing in the First Stage CBT. EBC must not be confused with OBC or EWS.
3. Modification fee:: Rs. 250 per occasion, non-refundable, payable by all candidates irrespective of community and category to modify a submitted application during the modification window.
4. Difference in fee on changing community in the modification window:: A candidate modifying his or her community from SC/ST to UR, OBC or EWS, or switching from Ex-Servicemen, female or transgender to UR, OBC (NCL), EWS, non-Ex-Servicemen or male, must pay the Rs. 250 difference in examination fee in addition to the modification fee, failing which the modified application is not accepted.

Payment Methods

1. Online only:: Fee may be paid only online, through internet banking, debit or credit card, or UPI. There is no option to pay by any other mode, and all applicable service charges are borne by the candidate.
2. Applications without fee:: Applications received without the prescribed fee are not considered and are summarily rejected, and no representation against such rejection is entertained.
3. Acceptance of the application:: The online application is accepted only after confirmation of fee payment is received; the applicant is sent a confirmation by email and SMS.

Other Information

1. Who is eligible for the concessional fee:: There is no full exemption from the fee in this CEN. SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, female, transgender, minority and Economically Backward Class candidates pay the reduced fee of Rs. 250 instead of Rs. 500.
2. Minorities:: Minorities include Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Zoroastrians (Parsis) given minority status by the State or Union Territory to which the candidate belongs, subject to any revision, deletion or inclusion received up to the last date for submission of the online application. A minority candidate claiming the fee waiver must furnish an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper declaring the minority community, in the format at Annexure V, at Document Verification, failing which the candidature is liable to be rejected.
3. Economically Backward Class (EBC):: EBC candidates are those whose annual family income is less than Rs. 50,000. They must hold, on the date of application, either a valid income certificate in the format at Annexure IV issued by a District Magistrate or Revenue Officer up to the level of Tahsildar, a sitting Lok Sabha Member of Parliament for persons of their own constituency, a sitting Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament for persons of the district in which the Member normally resides, or a Union Minister for any person in the country; or a BPL card or other certificate issued by the Central Government under a recognised poverty alleviation programme; or an Izzat MST issued by the Railways. EBC candidates are entitled only to the fee concession and not to any job reservation, and EBC is a category distinct from EWS and OBC.
4. Refund conditions:: Only candidates who attend the First Stage CBT receive a refund. The fee paid by candidates whose application is incomplete, not submitted, or rejected is not refunded.
5. How refunds are paid:: Refunds, less bank charges, are credited only to the bank account seeded with the candidate's Aadhaar number. Candidates must validate their Aadhaar during the application; if no bank account is found seeded with Aadhaar, the candidate is redirected to the NPCI portal for real-time Aadhaar-bank account linking. A candidate without a bank account may provide a family member's Aadhaar-seeded account. The responsibility for a valid and operational Aadhaar-seeded account rests solely with the candidate, and no refund is admissible where the linked account is found non-operational.
6. Refund if the recruitment is cancelled:: If the notified vacancies are cancelled, the examination fee is not refunded except to candidates who have attended the First Stage CBT.

Who may apply

A candidate must be a citizen of India, or a citizen of Nepal, or a subject of Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 01.01.1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Certificate of eligibility

Candidates in the categories other than Indian citizens must hold a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India. They may be admitted to the examination provisionally, but the certificate must be produced at Document Verification failing which the candidature is rejected.

6. Language Requirements

Medium of examination	Questions for CBT-1 and CBT-2 are available in English, Hindi and 13 regional Indian languages: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. 7. Physical Requirements

Vision standards for A-1	Distant vision 6/6, 6/6 without glasses with fogging test (must not accept +2D); near vision Sn: 0.6, 0.6 without glasses; and the candidate must pass tests for colour vision, binocular vision, field of vision, night vision and mesopic vision.
LASIK and refractive surgery	Candidates who have undergone LASIK surgery or any other surgical procedure to correct a refractive error are not eligible for the post of ALP. The online application carries a built-in self-screening validation, and a self-declaration in the format at Annexure VI is required.
Self Screening Medical Declaration	A downloadable medical report generated from the self-screening questionnaire, signed by a General Physician and an Eye Specialist, must be produced on the CBAT day in the formats at Annexure VIII A and VIII B. The certificate is accepted only if issued by a Central or State Government hospital or a medical college. These declarations are provisional for examination eligibility; the candidate must still pass the final medical examination conducted by Railway Medical Authorities under the Indian Railway Medical Manual.
Standards are indicative, not exhaustive	The medical standards stated in the notice are indicative and not exhaustive. Candidates are advised to read Chapter 5 of the Indian Railway Medical Manual (IRMM) Volume I, available at www.indianrailways.gov.in.
Ex-Servicemen	Medical standards for Ex-Servicemen are different and are given in Para 534 of the Indian Railway Medical Manual Volume I.
Consequence of medical failure	A candidate who fails to pass the prescribed medical fitness standard will not be considered for empanelment and will not be offered any alternative appointment. One last and final medical appeal may be allowed on payment of the prescribed charges and subject to the laid-down conditions; where the appeal is taken, its result is final and binding.

8. Other Eligibility

Debarred and dismissed candidates	Candidates presently debarred by any RRB or RRC must not apply; their candidature will be rejected at any stage when detected. Candidates dismissed from service by the Central Government, a State Government, a PSU or any other government organisation are not eligible.
Provisional admission	Admission to all stages of the recruitment process is provisional and subject to the candidate satisfying all prescribed eligibility conditions. RRBs do not undertake detailed scrutiny of applications for eligibility before the examination; documents are verified only at Document Verification, after the candidate has qualified in all stages.
No Objection Certificate	Candidates serving in any Central or State Government department including the Railways, or in a public sector undertaking, government autonomous body or other government entity, including those undergoing induction training or probation, may apply online directly while informing their employer, and must produce an NOC from that employer on the date of Document Verification, failing which the candidature is cancelled.
Serving Defence personnel	Persons serving in the Armed Forces who on retirement would fall under the Ex-Servicemen category may apply for re-employment one year before completing their specific term of engagement and avail all Ex-Servicemen concessions, but must possess the prescribed educational qualification as on the closing date of application.
One application only	A candidate may apply to only one RRB and submit only one application against this CEN. Multiple applications to one RRB or to different RRBs cause all of them to be rejected and the candidate to be debarred from all future RRB and RRC examinations.

Cut Off Marks

Shortlisting for the CBAT:: 8 times the ALP vacancies for each notified community or category (UR including OBC-CL, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and EWS, including Ex-Servicemen), on the marks in Part-A of CBT-2 among candidates who chose the same RRB, with reservation rules applied and subject to qualifying in Part-B. Candidates tying at the cut-off point are all shortlisted.
7. Final merit:: Prepared RRB-wise from candidates qualifying in the CBAT, weighting the marks in Part-A of CBT-2 and the CBAT score in the ratio 50:50. CBT-1 marks are not counted in the final panel.
8. Tie-breaking:: Where two or more candidates secure equal marks, the older candidate is placed higher; if the age is also the same, the alphabetical order (A to Z) of the given name, not the surname, decides.

How to Apply

1. Step 1 - Read the CEN:: Read all the information and instructions in the detailed CEN, including Annexure-A and Annexure-B, before filling the online application, and only then exercise the option for Railway Zones and post within the chosen RRB.
2. Step 2 - Create an account:: Create an account for this CEN using the link on an official RRB website. Candidates who already created an account for CENs notified in 2024 or 2025 must use the same login credentials. An active personal mobile number and a valid email ID are mandatory for receiving OTPs. No change to any detail entered in the 'Create an Account' form, including mobile number and email ID, is permitted afterwards.
3. Step 3 - Authenticate identity:: Candidates are strongly advised, in their own interest, to authenticate their identity using DigiLocker or Aadhaar at the 'Create an Account' stage, or later through the 'Verify Aadhaar' facility at any point before final submission. Applicants who verify their identity through alternative photo IDs are subjected to significantly stricter and more detailed scrutiny at every stage.
4. Step 4 - Self-screening medical declaration:: Before the application form proper, the candidate must complete a self-declaration questionnaire confirming conformity with the minimum prescribed physical and mental fitness standards for speech, hearing and eyesight (including no LASIK surgery), mental fitness, pre-existing medical conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, and use of psychoactive substances. The form carries built-in validation and generates a downloadable medical report.
5. Step 5 - Fill the application:: Enter name, father's name, mother's name and date of birth exactly as recorded in the SSC/SSLC/Matriculation/10th class certificate. Choose one RRB, give an order of preference for the Railway Zones under it, and choose the medium of examination. Only one application per candidate is accepted.
6. Step 6 - Live photograph:: No pre-existing photograph is uploaded. The application module captures a live photograph through a webcam or the front camera of a mobile phone. Dress in non-white, preferably dark clothing; position the camera at eye level; look straight ahead with a neutral expression; keep the whole face visible and centred in the frame; do not wear a cap, mask or spectacles. The photo may be previewed and retaken until the application is submitted. Photographing a printed or digital pre-existing photograph leads to summary rejection. If the live photograph fails validation and matching, the candidate must download Annexure-IX from the online application and upload it signed by a Class-I Gazetted Officer as proof of identity.
7. Step 7 - Upload documents:: Upload the scanned signature in JPG/JPEG, and, for SC and ST candidates who want the free train travel pass, the SC/ST certificate in PDF.
8. Step 8 - Pay the fee:: After submitting the application the candidate is directed to the payment options and completes payment online. Acceptance of the application happens only after confirmation of fee payment, which is confirmed by email and SMS.
9. Assistance:: Candidates may use the services of a Common Services Centre under the Digital India initiative, managed at village panchayat level by a Village Level Entrepreneur, for online submission of the form and payment of the fee by e-wallet. More than 1.5 lakh such centres exist across the country.
10. Apply early:: Candidates are advised to submit the online application well before the closing date to avoid the last-minute rush and the possibility of heavy website traffic. The RRBs are not responsible if a candidate cannot submit the application within the last date for any reason.

Modification of a submitted application:: After final submission with the requisite fee, a candidate may modify, change or correct any detail other than those in the 'Create an Account' form and the chosen RRB, by paying Rs. 250 per occasion. Modification is allowed any number of times, each on payment of the fee, from 17-06-2026 to 26-06-2026, that is up to ten days after the closing date. After 26-06-2026 no representation for modification is entertained.

Exam Pattern

1. First Stage CBT (CBT-1) - duration:: 60 minutes.
2. First Stage CBT (CBT-1) - questions and marks:: 75 questions carrying a maximum of 75 marks, at 1 mark per question, objective type with multiple choice answers.
3. First Stage CBT (CBT-1) - purpose:: A screening examination only, used to shortlist candidates for CBT-2 on normalised marks and merit among candidates who chose the same RRB. The marks of CBT-1 are not counted in the final panel.
4. Second Stage CBT (CBT-2) - duration and questions:: Total duration 2 hours 30 minutes and 175 questions, in two parts: Part-A of 90 minutes with 100 questions and Part-B of 60 minutes with 75 questions.
5. Second Stage CBT (CBT-2) - what counts:: Only the marks scored in Part-A are counted for shortlisting for further stages, provided the candidate, irrespective of community, secures the qualifying 35% in Part-B. Part-B is qualifying in nature only.
6. Negative marking:: One-third of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer in both CBT-1 and CBT-2. There is no negative marking in the Computer Based Aptitude Test.
7. Normalisation of marks:: Marks are normalised in all stages of the examination that are held in multiple shifts.
8. Standard of questions:: The standard of questions for CBT-1 generally conforms to the educational standards and minimum technical qualifications prescribed for the post.
9. Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT):: Conducted only in English and Hindi, with no negative marking. It is mandatory to clear each test battery or section separately, with a minimum T-score of 42 in each battery, to qualify.
10. Medium of examination:: CBT-1 and CBT-2 questions are available in English, Hindi and 13 regional languages (Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu), displayed in the chosen language and in English. The choice cannot be changed after the application stage.
11. Right to add stages:: The RRBs reserve the right to introduce additional CBTs, an additional CBAT, additional Document Verification and so on without assigning any reason, and to reschedule any CBT, CBAT or DV due to technical constraints or unavoidable circumstances.

Syllabus Details

1. CBT-1 - Mathematics:: Number system, BODMAS, decimals, fractions, LCM, HCF, ratio and proportion, percentages, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, algebra, geometry and trigonometry, elementary statistics, square root, age calculations, calendar and clock, pipes and cistern, and similar topics.
2. CBT-1 - Mental Ability:: Analogies, alphabetical and number series, coding and decoding, mathematical operations, relationships, syllogism, jumbling, Venn diagram, data interpretation and sufficiency, conclusions and decision making, similarities and differences, analytical reasoning, classification, directions, and statement-arguments and assumptions.
3. CBT-1 - General Science:: Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences at the 10th standard level.
4. CBT-2 Part-A - Mathematics:: Number system, BODMAS, decimals, fractions, LCM, HCF, ratio and proportion, percentages, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, algebra, geometry and trigonometry, elementary statistics, square root, age calculations, calendar and clock, pipes and cistern, and similar topics.

6. CBT-2 Part-A - Basic Science and Engineering:: Engineering drawing (projections, views, drawing instruments, lines, geometric figures, symbolic representation), units, measurements, mass weight and density, work power and energy, speed and velocity, heat and temperature, basic electricity, levers and simple machines, occupational safety and health, environment education and IT literacy.
7. CBT-2 Part-B - nature and syllabus:: A qualifying test only, with questions from the various trade syllabi prescribed by the Directorate General of Training (DGT), available at https://dgt.gov.in. The qualifying percentage is 35% for all candidates irrespective of category or community. Candidates with an ITI or trade apprenticeship qualification appear in the section for their own trade; Degree and Diploma candidates select one trade from the list against their engineering discipline.
8. CBT-2 Part-B - trade grouping for Electrical Engineering and its streams:: Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Wireman, Armature & Coil Winder, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Mechanic.
9. CBT-2 Part-B - trade grouping for Electronics Engineering and its streams:: Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic (Radio & TV).
10. CBT-2 Part-B - trade grouping for Mechanical Engineering and its streams:: Fitter, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Tractor Mechanic, Mechanic (Diesel), Turner, Machinist, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Mechanic, Millwright/Maintenance Mechanic.
11. CBT-2 Part-B - trade grouping for Automobile Engineering and its streams:: Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Tractor Mechanic, Mechanic (Diesel), Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Mechanic.

Selection Process

1. Stages:: The recruitment process comprises First Stage CBT (CBT-1), Second Stage CBT (CBT-2), Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), Document Verification (DV) and Medical Examination (ME).
2. Stage 1 - First Stage CBT:: A screening examination only. Candidates are shortlisted for CBT-2 on their normalised marks and merit among the candidates who chose the same RRB. CBT-1 marks are not counted in the final panel.
3. Stage 2 - Second Stage CBT:: Shortlisting is RRB-wise and community-wise on normalised CBT-1 merit, limited to 15 times the vacancies notified for each RRB, which the Railways may increase or decrease to ensure an adequate number of candidates. Candidates from SC, ST, OBC-NCL and EWS are shortlisted against the UR category provided they have taken no relaxation or concession in age, qualification or marks. A candidate shortlisted using the reservation benefit of a community or category continues to be considered only against that community or category in all subsequent stages.
4. Stage 3 - Computer Based Aptitude Test:: Candidates equal to 8 times the number of ALP vacancies for each notified community or category (UR including OBC-CL, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and EWS, including Ex-Servicemen) are shortlisted on the marks in Part-A of CBT-2 among candidates who chose the same RRB, with reservation rules applied, provided they qualify in Part-B. Shortlisted candidates must produce the Self Screening Medical Declaration Report in the formats at Annexure VIII A and VIII B in original at the CBAT, failing which they are not permitted to appear. Each test battery must be cleared separately, with a minimum T-score of 42.
5. Stage 4 - Document Verification:: The merit list is prepared RRB-wise from among candidates qualifying in the CBAT, weighting the marks in Part-A of CBT-2 and the CBAT score in the ratio 50:50. Taking the candidates' preferences for Zones and posts into account, candidates equal to the number of vacancies are shortlisted for Document Verification and Medical Examination.
6. Stage 5 - Medical Examination:: Appointment is subject to passing the requisite medical fitness test conducted by the Railway Administration to the A-1 standard, along with final verification of all essential documents and verification of the candidate's antecedents and character.
7. Allotment of Zone:: On completion of all stages the RRB allots a Railway Zone or Production Unit according to the candidate's options, subject to merit, medical standard and vacancy position. Once empanelled according to merit and choice, a candidate forfeits the right to be considered for a preference in the next priority zone or unit. The RRBs also reserve the right to allot a Zone or unit not opted for by the candidate if considered in the administrative interest.
8. Shortfall in empanelment:: In case of a shortfall in empanelment or other exigencies the RRBs reserve the right to use candidates further down the merit list, according to merit and their options. This confers no vested right on such candidates.
9. Selection confers no right to appointment:: The function of the RRB is only to recommend the names of suitable candidates to the concerned authorities of the Zonal Railway, who issue the offer of appointment subject to availability of vacancies and satisfaction of all eligibility criteria including antecedents of character.
10. No postponement:: Requests for postponement of any stage, or for change of venue, date or shift, are not entertained under any circumstances.

Admit Card Details

1. Where to download:: E-call letters for CBT-1, CBT-2, CBAT and Document Verification must be downloaded only from the websites of the RRB concerned, listed in Para 13.7. No call letter is sent by post.
2. When:: The e-call letter for the CBT or CBAT can be downloaded about 4 days before the date of the examination; the city of examination is intimated about 10 days in advance. Eligible candidates are also informed by SMS and email, but candidates should visit the official websites regularly since SMS or email delivery may fail.
3. E-call letter does not confirm candidature:: The mere issue of an e-call letter does not mean the candidature has been accepted for subsequent stages. The appropriateness, authenticity and genuineness of the photograph and signature are verified along with other credentials before the candidate is allowed to take the examination.
4. What to bring:: The e-call letter together with a valid original photo ID such as a Voter ID card, Aadhaar card, printout of e-Aadhaar, driving licence, PAN card, passport, an employer-issued identity card for government employees, or a school, college or university photo ID card for those still studying. A colour passport photograph not older than two months from the date of the CBT, CBAT, DV or ME must also be brought.
5. Self-declaration on the e-call letter:: Candidates must write the self-declaration paragraph, sign it and affix a left thumb impression on the e-call letter at the examination venue, in the presence of the invigilator, and hand it over before the examination ends. Writing the self-declaration in advance or signing in capital letters leads to rejection.
6. Free travel for SC and ST candidates:: For SC and ST candidates eligible for free train travel, the e-call letter itself carries the free travel authority (sleeper class railway pass). Reservation may be booked on a self-attested photocopy of the e-call letter and the SC/ST certificate; the original community certificate and an original prescribed proof of identity must be carried during the journey, failing which the candidate is treated as travelling without a ticket.
7. No change of centre, date or shift:: The CBT or CBAT centre, date and shift shown in the e-call letter are final and no request for change is entertained.

Reservation Details

1. Vertical reservation:: This CEN provides vertical reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Class (Non-Creamy Layer), wherever applicable and admissible and as communicated by the indenting Railways under extant rules. Only communities recognised by the Government of India as SC, ST and OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) are eligible.
2. Horizontal reservation:: Horizontal reservation is provided for Ex-Servicemen irrespective of their social community. The Ex-Servicemen vacancies shown in the vacancy table are not separate but are included in the total number of vacancies. Ex-Servicemen may also apply against unreserved vacancies not exclusively earmarked for them and remain eligible for age relaxation and fee concession when doing so.
3. Competing against UR:: All candidates, irrespective of community, are considered against unreserved vacancies, while vacancies reserved for a specific group are filled only by candidates of that group. EWS, SC, ST and OBC-NCL candidates who apply against UR vacancies compete as general candidates without any relaxation or concession in age, qualification or marks at any stage.
4. Certificates for reservation:: Candidates claiming reservation must produce the latest valid certificate, valid as on the closing date for submission of applications, in original at Document Verification, in the prescribed formats: Annexure-I for SC and ST, Annexure-II for OBC-NCL and Annexure-III for EWS.
5. OBC-NCL certificate:: The OBC castes in the latest list published by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment are the basis for the claim, and the caste must appear in the current central list of OBCs at http://www.ncbc.nic.in. The certificate must be in the format at Annexure II, issued on or after 01 April 2026 and not later than the closing date of the online application, and must specifically certify that the candidate does not belong to the creamy layer as defined by DoPT OM No. 36012/22/93-Estt.(SCT) dated 08/09/93 as modified by DoPT OM No. 36033/1/2013-Estt.(Res.) dated 13/09/2017. At Document Verification the candidate must also give a self-declaration in the format at Annexure IIA that he or she does not belong to the creamy layer on the closing date of application. Failure means the OBC-NCL claim is not accepted and the candidate may be considered as unreserved.
6. EWS reservation:: Candidates not covered by the reservation scheme for SC, ST or OBC-NCL whose family gross annual income is below Rs. 8 lakh are identified as EWS. Income includes all sources - salary, agriculture, business, profession and so on - for the financial year prior to the year in which applications close, which for this CEN is 2025-26. A family owning or possessing 5 acres or more of agricultural land, a residential flat of 1,000 sq. ft. or more, a residential plot of 100 sq. yards or more in a notified municipality, or a residential plot of 200 sq. yards or more elsewhere, is excluded irrespective of income; property in different locations is clubbed. 'Family' means the applicant, his or her parents, siblings below 18, spouse, and children below 18. The Income and Asset Certificate must be in the format at Annexure III and issued by a District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Collector, Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Taluka Magistrate, Executive Magistrate, Extra Assistant Commissioner, Chief Presidency Magistrate, Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate, Presidency Magistrate, a Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar, or the Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate normally resides.
7. EBC is not a reservation:: Economically Backward Class and Economically Weaker Section are different categories, and EBC must not be confused with OBC. EBC candidates are entitled only to the fee concession and to no job reservation.
8. Crucial date for community status:: Only the community or category status as on the closing date for submission of applications is considered for reservation and related benefits. Any change in that status afterwards is not entertained.
9. Lohar / Lohara / Lohra caste, Bihar:: Following the Supreme Court judgment in Writ Petition (C) 1052/2021, Sunil Kumar Rai and others versus State of Bihar and others, dated 21.02.2022, candidates who originally belong to the Lohar, Lohara or Lohra caste and who belong to Bihar or have migrated temporarily or permanently from Bihar to other states must submit at Document Verification their latest caste certificate - as per Annexure-I of the CEN with back reference to Form-II of the Bihar Government for an ST claim, or as per Annexure-II with back reference to Form-VIIA for an OBC-NCL claim - issued after 01.04.2023 only and valid on the closing date for submission of the online application.
10. Pan / Panr / Sawasi / Tanti-Tatwa caste, Bihar:: Following the Supreme Court judgment in Civil Appeal No. 18802 of 2017, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Vichar Manch, Bihar, Patna versus State of Bihar and others, dated 15.07.2024, candidates holding an SC or ST community certificate issued before that judgment who originally belong to the Pan, Panr, Sawasi or Tanti-Tatwa caste and who belong to Bihar or have migrated from Bihar must upload details of a latest caste certificate issued on or after 01.09.2024 with the community and caste modified or added, and must bring that new certificate to Document Verification, failing which the candidature is treated as unreserved.
11. False claims:: Candidature or appointment is cancelled forthwith if a fraudulent claim of SC, ST, OBC or EWS status or misuse of any other benefit comes to light at any stage. Such action leads to permanent debarment from all RRB and RRC examinations and may invite legal proceedings.
12. Ex-Servicemen already in civil employment:: An Ex-Serviceman who has already secured civil employment under the Central Government in Group 'C' or erstwhile Group 'D', including in PSUs, autonomous or statutory bodies and nationalised banks, after availing Ex-Servicemen benefits, is allowed only the age relaxation for securing another civil employment in a higher grade or cadre, and is not considered against vacancies reserved for Ex-Servicemen.
13. Definition of Ex-Serviceman:: A person who has served in any rank, combatant or non-combatant, in the regular Army, Navy or Air Force of the Indian Union, excluding the Defence Security Corps, the General Reserve Engineering Force, the Lok Sahayak Sena and the Para Military Forces, and who has retired, been relieved or discharged with pension; or has been relieved on medical grounds attributable to military service with a disability pension; or has been released owing to a reduction in establishment; or has been released after completing the specific period of engagement other than at his own request, dismissal or discharge for misconduct or inefficiency, with a gratuity. It includes Territorial Army pension holders for continuous embodied or broken spells of qualifying service, specified Army Postal Service personnel, personnel on deputation to the Army Postal Service for more than six months before 14 April 1987, gallantry award winners of the Armed Forces including the Territorial Army, and ex-recruits boarded out or relieved on medical grounds and granted a medical disability pension with effect from 01.02.2006.
14. Ex-Servicemen certificates:: Armed services personnel still serving on the closing date of application submission must submit an employment certificate with the probable date of discharge from service, in the format at Annexure VIIA, valid as on the closing date, and all Ex-Servicemen must submit a self-declaration undertaking in the format at Annexure VIIB at Document Verification to claim Ex-Servicemen reservation benefits.

Document Requirements

1. Uploaded with the online application:: The candidate's signature in JPG or JPEG format, and, for SC and ST candidates requesting the free train travel pass, the SC/ST certificate in PDF format.
2. Signature specification:: The signature must be written by the candidate with a black ink pen on white paper, in running handwriting - cursive or joined letters, not block, capital or disjointed letters - clear, legible and entirely within the scanned area. Scan at a minimum of 100 DPI, JPG/JPEG only, file size between 30 KB and 49 KB, image dimensions at least 140 x 60 pixels, positioned within a scan box 35 mm wide by 20 mm high with the signature centred.
3. Grounds for signature-related rejection:: A non-white background, non-black ink, block or capital letters instead of running handwriting, poor resolution or an unclear image, an incomplete or partially visible signature, uploading an image other than the signature, a blank signature, a thumb impression in place of a signature, or the signature of a person other than the applicant. The signature on the application must match those captured at the examinations, Document Verification, Medical Examination and appointment.
4. SC/ST certificate specification:: PDF format only, file size less than 400 KB, legible and clear, and the latest valid certificate as on the closing date of online application submission.
5. Annexure-IX:: If the live photograph fails validation and matching, the candidate downloads Annexure-IX from the online application after confirming the relevant declarations and uploads it signed by a Class-I Gazetted Officer as valid proof of identity. The form is generated online and must not be filled manually.
6. Produced at Document Verification:: All original documents together with two sets of self-attested photocopies. Scanned true-colour copies of the photograph and signature must also be uploaded before the DV date through the portal https://oirms-ir.gov.in/rrbdv.
7. Language of certificates:: All certificates must be in English or Hindi only; where they are not, a self-attested translated version in English or Hindi must be produced. Certificates produced at DV must strictly follow the prescribed formats, and certificates in any other format are not accepted.
8. Consequence of not producing originals:: No additional time is given to a candidate who does not produce the original certificates on the date of Document Verification, and such candidature is liable to be cancelled. The candidature of a candidate absent at Document Verification is cancelled.
9. Prescribed formats annexed to the CEN:: Annexure-I caste certificate for SC and ST candidates; Annexure-II certificate for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer); Annexure-IIA self-declaration by OBC (NCL) candidates; Annexure-III income and asset certificate for EWS; Annexure-IV income certificate for Economically Backward Class candidates; Annexure-V proforma for waiver of examination fee by minority candidates; Annexure-VI self-declaration regarding LASIK or other corrective eye surgery; Annexure-VIIA employment certificate from the commanding officer for serving Ex-Servicemen; Annexure-VIIB self-declaration by Ex-Servicemen regarding civil employment; Annexure-VIIIA and VIIIB the Assistant Loco Pilot Self Screening Medical Declaration Report Parts A and B, to be submitted on the CBAT examination day; and Annexure-IX, generated online.
10. No Objection Certificate:: Serving government and PSU employees must produce an NOC from their employer on the date of Document Verification, failing which the candidature is cancelled. It is the sole responsibility of the candidate to submit it within the prescribed time.
11. Self Screening Medical Declaration Report:: The report generated from the self-screening questionnaire must be produced in original on the CBAT day, in the formats at Annexure VIIIA and VIIIB, signed by a General Physician and an Eye Specialist and issued by a Central or State Government hospital or a medical college. It certifies among other things unaided 6/6 vision in both eyes, no spectacles or contact lenses, no LASIK or refractive surgery, no colour blindness, no speech impediment or hearing impairment, no psychiatric, neurological, blackout or seizure disorder, no diabetes or hypertension, no cardiovascular or chronic systemic illness, and that the candidate is not taking sedative medication.

Important Instructions

1. Read the CEN first:: Read the information in the CEN thoroughly, and go through Annexure-A and Annexure-B to ascertain eligibility, before filling the online application and before choosing the Zonal Railways and post within the chosen RRB.
2. Qualification must be complete before the closing date:: Candidates must fulfil all prescribed educational and technical qualifications on or before the closing date for submitting the application. Candidates awaiting final results are not eligible to apply.
3. One RRB and one application:: A candidate may apply to only one RRB and only one application per candidate is accepted. The selection of RRB, once exercised and the application submitted, is final and cannot be changed. Applicants submitting more than one application are disqualified and debarred from the recruitment process and from future examinations of the RRBs and RRCs.
4. Eligibility is provisional:: Eligibility is provisional and based only on the details furnished in the online application. The RRB does not undertake detailed scrutiny of applications; certificates are sought at Document Verification, and any claim not substantiated there leads to cancellation of candidature.
5. Details that can never be changed:: The details filled in the 'Create an Account' form, including mobile number and email ID, and the chosen RRB cannot be modified at any stage once the account is created.
6. Keep contact details active:: Candidates must have their own active mobile number and a valid personal email ID and keep them active throughout the recruitment, as all communication is only by SMS or email. Requests for change of mobile number or email address are not entertained at any stage. Candidates should note and remember their registration number.
7. Medical fitness:: Candidates must ensure they meet the prescribed medical standards for ALP. Those found medically unsuitable are given no alternative appointment. The post has stringent medical standards, both for vision and for physical and other medical standards.
8. Travel for examinations:: Centre and city allocation for CBT-1, CBT-2 and the CBAT and the date of examination depend on technical and logistical feasibility, and candidates may have to travel to other cities or states. Requests for change of examination date, centre or shift are not allowed under any circumstances.
9. Free train travel for SC and ST candidates:: A free sleeper class railway pass is provided with the e-call letter to SC and ST candidates who opt for it in the application, for the various stages of selection. The original community certificate must be shown to authorised Railway staff when booking and travelling. Misuse leads to rejection of candidature, debarment and legal action.
10. Banned items at the test centre:: Electronic gadgets such as mobile phones, pagers, watches, earphones, Bluetooth-enabled devices, microphones, health bands and calculators, and books, pens, paper, pencils, erasers, pouches, scales, writing pads, belts, handbags, caps, purses, cameras, water bottles and packaged or open food items are not allowed inside the test centre. Only the e-call letter is allowed in. Pens are provided during the examination. Candidates are advised not to apply henna to hands or feet as it obstructs biometric capture. Any violation leads to disqualification, legal action and debarment. Cloak room facilities may not be available at the venues.
11. Biometrics and post-examination analysis:: Biometric details are recorded at every stage of the recruitment process and any mismatch may lead to disqualification and legal action. The RRBs undertake comprehensive post-examination analysis including log analysis, photograph and biometric verification and CCTV footage review, and may conduct additional authentication procedures and background checks.
12. Name changes:: Name, father's name, mother's name and date of birth must be entered as recorded in the SSC, SSLC, Matriculation or 10th class certificate. Where the name has changed, the changed name and the certificate name must both be indicated at the appropriate places, all other details must match the certificate, and the change must predate the submission of the application. A Gazette notification or other applicable legal document with the changed name, along with a valid photo ID bearing the changed name, must be submitted at CBT-1, CBT-2, CBAT or Document Verification.
13. Beware of fake websites and touts:: Candidates should rely only on the official RRB websites for authentic and timely information. The RRBs never appoint agents or coaching centres to act on their behalf. Candidates attempting to influence an RRB directly or indirectly are disqualified and legal action may be initiated.
14. Sharing of scores:: With the consent of candidates, the RRBs may share the marks obtained in this recruitment with other ministries, departments, public sector undertakings and private organisations for their own recruitment. Candidates indicate their consent or refusal in the online application.
15. Rights reserved by the RRBs:: The RRBs reserve the right to change, modify, add or delete any term or condition of the recruitment at any stage; to cancel part or the whole of the recruitment process without assigning any reason; and to cancel or modify results and empanelment where an inadvertent or typographical error is found, even after appointment. The decision of the RRBs on all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of applications, free rail passes, penal action for false information, modification of vacancies, mode of selection, conduct of the CBT, allotment of examination centres and selection is final and binding, and no enquiry or correspondence is entertained.
16. Jurisdiction:: Legal issues arising out of this CEN after the application has been provisionally accepted and an e-call letter received fall within the jurisdiction of the Central Administrative Tribunal or High Court under which the candidate's chosen RRB is located. Where the candidature is rejected on account of rejection of the application for any reason, legal issues fall within the jurisdiction of the Central Administrative Tribunal, Jammu, or the High Court for the State of Jammu and Kashmir.

Training Details

1. Training on a stipend:: Candidates selected for the post of ALP have to undergo training wherever prescribed, and only a stipend is paid during the training period. The amount of the stipend and the duration of the training are not stated in this notice.

Bond or Service Agreement

1. Security or indemnity bond:: Selected candidates shall execute a security and/or indemnity bond wherever necessary.
2. Territorial Army liability:: Selected candidates who are finally appointed are liable for active service in the Railway Engineers' Unit of the Territorial Army.
3. Restriction on transfer:: No request for transfer to another Railway is registered until the newly appointed candidate completes at least 5 to 10 years of service.

Disqualification Criteria

1. Multiple applications:: Multiple applications to different RRBs or to the same RRB cause all applications to be rejected summarily and the candidate to be debarred from all future RRB and RRC examinations. This includes multiple applications submitted with minor changes of information or facts.
2. Live photograph:: Non-compliance with the instructions for capturing the live photograph leads to rejection of the candidature at any stage. Submitting a picture of a printed or digital pre-existing photograph leads to summary rejection.
3. Signature:: Non-compliance with the signature upload instructions results in rejection of the candidature at any stage of the examination. Applications with blurred, illegible or non-standard photographs or signatures are liable to be rejected at any stage.
4. Debarred candidates:: A candidate whose name figures in the debarred list of any RRB or RRC is rejected.
5. Other irregularities:: Any other irregularity found during application scrutiny, before or after the issue of e-call letters, or during Document Verification.
6. Unfair means:: Any candidate resorting to unfair means at any stage - forgery, impersonation, cheating, misconduct, use or attempted use of banned items, misrepresentation or suppression of facts, giving wrong information or submitting a false document, or sending someone else to appear in the examination - is debarred for life from all examinations of all RRBs and RRCs, debarred from appointment in the Railways, dismissed from service if already appointed, and is liable to legal prosecution. Attention is drawn to the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, effective from 21.06.2024.
7. False information:: If at any stage of recruitment or afterwards it is found that any information is false or incorrect, or that the candidate has suppressed relevant information or does not satisfy the eligibility criteria, the candidature is rejected forthwith; a candidate already appointed is removed from service summarily and debarred from all future RRB and RRC examinations for life.
8. Employer withholding permission:: If the RRB receives a communication from a candidate's employer withholding permission to apply for or appear in the examination, or at the stage of Document Verification, empanelment or appointment, the application or candidature is liable to be rejected or cancelled.
9. How rejections are communicated:: Details of rejected applications, with the reasons for rejection, can be viewed on the website of the RRB concerned by logging in. The reasons are final and binding and no further correspondence is entertained. SMS and email alerts are also sent. Candidates are not intimated by post, and no refund of the examination fee is made on account of rejection.
