Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) No. 05/2025 of the Railway Recruitment Boards, Ministry of Railways, for recruitment to various posts of Junior Engineer, Depot Material Superintendent and Chemical and Metallurgical Assistant. Selection is through a two-stage Computer Based Test followed by Document Verification and medical examination.

Fee Structure

Application Fee

1. All candidates except those listed below:: Rs. 500. Of this, Rs. 400 is refunded, less bank charges as applicable, on appearing in the 1st stage CBT.
2. SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, female, transgender, minority and Economically Backward Class (EBC) candidates:: Rs. 250. This entire amount is refunded, less bank charges as applicable, on appearing in the 1st stage CBT.
3. Modification fee:: Rs. 250 (non-refundable) for each occasion on which a submitted application is modified, payable by all candidates irrespective of community or category. A candidate who changes community from SC/ST to UR, OBC or EWS, or from Ex-Servicemen / female / transgender / PwBD to UR / OBC-NCL / EWS / non-Ex-Servicemen / non-PwBD / male, must also pay the Rs. 250 difference in examination fee, failing which the modified application is not accepted.

Payment Methods

1. Online only:: Fee is payable online only, through internet banking, debit or credit cards, or UPI. There is no other mode of payment and all applicable service charges are borne by the candidate.
2. Applications without fee:: Applications received without the prescribed fee are not considered and are summarily rejected, and no representation against such rejection is entertained.
3. Common Service Centres:: Candidates may use the services of the Common Services Centres (CSC) of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology for submitting the online application and paying the fee through e-wallet. The nearest centre can be found at https://findmycsc.nic.in/csc/.

Other Information

1. Refund of examination fee:: Only candidates who attend the 1st stage CBT receive a refund. Candidates must give correct bank details (bank name, account holder's name, account number and IFSC code) in the application form; the responsibility for their correctness lies with the candidate. There is no refund for wrong or incomplete beneficiary details or for erroneous, incomplete or rejected applications, and no refund if the notified vacancies are cancelled, except for candidates who attended the CBT.
2. Minorities:: Minorities for the purpose of the concessional fee are Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Zoroastrians (Parsis), subject to any revision, deletion or inclusion received up to 30.11.2025. Minority candidates claiming the fee waiver must furnish an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper in the format at Annexure IV at Document Verification, failing which their candidature is liable to be rejected.
3. Economically Backward Class (EBC):: EBC candidates are those whose annual family income is less than Rs. 50,000. They must hold, on the date of application, a valid income certificate in the format at Annexure III A issued by a District Magistrate or Revenue Officer up to the level of Tahsildar, a sitting Lok Sabha MP for his or her own constituency, a sitting Rajya Sabha MP for the district in which the MP normally resides, or a Union Minister for any person; or a BPL card or another certificate issued by the Central Government under a recognised poverty alleviation programme; or an Izzat MST issued by the Railways. Documents issued after 30.11.2025 are not accepted.
4. EBC, EWS and OBC are distinct:: Economically Backward Class (EBC), Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Other Backward Class (OBC) are three distinct categories. An EBC candidate is entitled only to the fee concession and not to job reservation.

The disciplines differ by category: Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics for the Electrical and Diesel categories; Civil Engineering (or a three-year B.Sc. in Civil Engineering) for the Civil categories; Mechanical / Production / Automobile / Electrical / Electronics / Instrumentation and Control for Track Machine; a wider Mechanical group for the Carriage and Wagon, Mechanical, Diesel Mechanical and Welder categories; and Electrical / Electronics / Information Technology / Communication / Computer Science / Computer Engineering for the S and T categories.
Depot Material Superintendent	Three years Diploma in Engineering in any discipline from a recognized University / Institution.
Chemical and Metallurgical Assistant	B.Sc degree in Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 45% marks from a recognized University / Institute, with any of the following: (a) B.Sc with Physics as major / specialization / Honours subject and Chemistry as a subject; (b) B.Sc with Chemistry as major / specialization / Honours subject and Physics as a subject; (c) B.Sc with any other Science subject (including but not limited to Mathematics / Mathematical Statistics) as a major / specialization / Honours subject and both Physics and Chemistry as subjects in the course.
Higher qualifications	Higher qualifications such as B.E / B.Tech are also acceptable in lieu of a three-year Diploma in Engineering in the same discipline.
Qualification must already be held	Candidates must already possess the prescribed educational / technical / professional qualification from a recognized Institute / University as on 30.11.2025, the closing date for submission of the online application. Those awaiting the result of the final examination are not eligible and should not apply.
Certificates must show the date of issue	Provisional or regular qualification certificates should carry the date of issue. If the date of issue is after the closing date, the consolidated marks sheet with the date of declaration of the final qualifying examination, or individual semester / year mark sheets with the date of declaration of each result, must be submitted at Document Verification.

Eligible nationalities

A candidate must be a citizen of India, or a citizen of Nepal, or a subject of Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 01.01.1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Certificate of eligibility

Candidates other than citizens of India must hold a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India. They may be admitted to the examination provisionally, but the certificate has to be submitted during Document Verification, failing which the candidature is rejected.

6. Physical Requirements

Medical Standard A-3	Physically fit in all respects. Distance vision 6/9, 6/9 with or without glasses (power of lenses not to exceed 2D); near vision Sn. 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses; must pass the tests for colour vision, binocular vision, night vision and mesopic vision.
Medical Standard B-1	Physically fit in all respects. Distance vision 6/9, 6/12 with or without glasses (power of lenses not to exceed 4D); near vision Sn. 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses when reading or close work is required; must pass the tests for colour vision, binocular vision, night vision and mesopic vision.
Medical Standard C-1	Physically fit in all respects. Distance vision 6/12, 6/18 with or without glasses; near vision Sn. 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses when reading or close work is required.
LASIK surgery	Candidates who have undergone LASIK surgery or any other refractive surgery are not eligible for posts requiring Medical Standard A-3. They may be eligible for Medical Standard B-1 if there are no complications, the surgery is at least one year old and certified by the specialist of the institution where it was performed, the residual corneal thickness is not less than 425 microns on pachymetry, visual acuity meets Para 512(1)(A) of IRMM Vol. I (Third Edition 2000), the fundus is normal and there is no evidence of progressive eye disease.
Standards are indicative	The medical standards printed in the CEN are indicative and not exhaustive; Chapter 5 of the Indian Railway Medical Manual (IRMM) Vol. I governs. Medical standards for Ex-Servicemen are as per Para 534 of IRMM Vol. I.
Medical appeal	A candidate who fails the prescribed medical standard may be offered one last and final opportunity to prefer a medical appeal on payment of the prescribed charges. The appeal result is final and binding. No alternative appointment is given to a candidate found medically unsuitable.

7. Other Eligibility

Debarred candidates	Candidates presently debarred by any RRB or RRC must not apply; their candidature will be rejected whenever detected.
Dismissed government servants	Candidates dismissed from service by the Government of India, a State Government, a PSU or any other government organization are not eligible.
One application only	Candidates who submit more than one application against this CEN, to the same RRB or to different RRBs, will be summarily rejected and debarred from all future RRB and RRC examinations.
No Objection Certificate	Candidates serving in any Central or State Government department, including the Railways, or in a Public Sector Undertaking, including those undergoing induction training or on probation, may apply directly after informing their employer. Shortlisted candidates must produce a No Objection Certificate from the employer on the date of Document Verification, failing which the candidature is cancelled.
Provisional eligibility	Eligibility is provisional and based on the details furnished online. The RRB does not scrutinise applications for eligibility in detail; certificates are checked at Document Verification and any unsubstantiated claim leads to cancellation of candidature.
Territorial Army liability	Selected candidates who are finally appointed are liable for active service in the Railway Engineers Unit of the Territorial Army.

How to Apply

1. Online only:: Applications must be submitted online only, through the link provided on the official RRB websites listed at Para 16.0. There is no offline mode.
2. Create an Account:: A candidate must first create an account for this CEN using the link on the official RRB websites. Candidates who created an account for an earlier RRB CEN must use the same login credentials. A valid personal mobile number and an active email ID are mandatory for receiving the OTPs required during account creation. No detail entered in the 'Create an Account' form, including the mobile number and email ID, can be changed later.
3. Identity authentication:: Candidates are strongly advised to authenticate their identity using DigiLocker or Aadhaar during the 'Create an Account' stage, or through the 'Verify Aadhaar' facility while filling in the application, before final submission. Applicants who verify with alternate photo IDs are subjected to significantly stricter and more detailed scrutiny at every stage.
4. Name and date of birth:: The name, father's name, mother's name and date of birth entered must be as recorded in the SSC / SSLC / Matriculation / 10th class certificate or equivalent. A changed name must be indicated separately along with the certificate name, and a Gazette notification or other legal document with a valid photo ID in the changed name must be produced at the CBT or Document Verification.
5. One RRB, with preferences:: A candidate may choose only one RRB and indicate preferences for the Railway Zones and posts / categories notified in that RRB. Partial options are considered only for the zones and posts opted for. Options once exercised are final. Multiple applications lead to rejection of all of them and to debarment.
6. Live photograph:: No pre-existing photograph is uploaded. The application module captures a live photograph through a webcam or the front camera of a mobile phone. The candidate must dress in non-white, preferably dark clothing, position the camera at eye level, face the camera with a neutral expression and the whole face centred in the frame, and must not wear a cap, mask or spectacles. The photo may be previewed and retaken until the application is submitted. Photographing a printed or digital pre-existing photograph leads to summary rejection.
7. Documents to upload:: The candidate's signature in JPG / JPEG format, and, for candidates requesting a free train travel pass, the SC / ST certificate in PDF format.
8. Signature specification:: The signature must be written by the candidate in black ink on white paper, in running (cursive) handwriting and not in block, capital or disjointed letters. Scan at a minimum of 100 DPI; JPG / JPEG only; file size between 30 KB and 49 KB; minimum dimensions 140 x 60 pixels; positioned centrally within a scan box of 35 mm x 20 mm.
9. SC/ST certificate specification:: PDF format only, less than 400 KB, legible and clear, and the latest valid certificate as on the closing date for submission of the online application.
10. Fee payment completes the application:: After submission the candidate is directed to pay the examination fee online. The application is accepted only after confirmation of fee payment, and the candidate receives confirmation by email and SMS.
11. Scribe details:: Scribe-eligible PwBD candidates must opt for a scribe in the online application, arrange the scribe themselves at their own cost, ensure the scribe is registered at rrbapply.gov.in, and log in during the five-day window immediately after the modification window closes (13.12.2025 to 17.12.2025) to enter the scribe's One-Time Registration number and the OTP sent to the scribe's mobile number.
12. Modification of a submitted application:: After submission and payment, any detail except those in the 'Create an Account' form and the chosen RRB may be modified from 03.12.2025 to 12.12.2025, any number of times, on payment of Rs. 250 per occasion. No representation for modification is entertained after 12.12.2025.
13. Apply early:: Candidates are advised to apply well before the closing date to avoid the heavy internet and website traffic of the final days. RRBs are not responsible if a candidate is unable to submit the application within the last date for any reason.

Exam Pattern

1. 1st Stage CBT - duration:: 90 minutes (120 minutes for candidates eligible to use a scribe).
2. 1st Stage CBT - number of questions:: 100 objective-type multiple-choice questions carrying 100 marks.
3. 1st Stage CBT - Mathematics:: 30 questions, 30 marks. Number systems, BODMAS, decimals, fractions, LCM and HCF, ratio and proportion, percentages, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, elementary statistics, square root, age calculations, calendar and clock, pipes and cistern.
4. 1st Stage CBT - General Intelligence and Reasoning:: 25 questions, 25 marks. Analogies, alphabetical and number series, coding and decoding, mathematical operations, relationships, syllogism, jumbling, Venn diagram, data interpretation and sufficiency, conclusions and decision making, similarities and differences, analytical reasoning, classification, directions, statement - arguments and assumptions.
5. 1st Stage CBT - General Awareness:: 15 questions, 15 marks. Current affairs, Indian geography, culture and history of India including the freedom struggle, Indian polity and constitution, Indian economy, environmental issues concerning India and the world, sports, general scientific and technological developments.
6. 1st Stage CBT - General Science:: 30 questions, 30 marks. Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences up to the 10th standard CBSE syllabus.
7. 2nd Stage CBT - duration:: 120 minutes (160 minutes for candidates eligible to use a scribe).
8. 2nd Stage CBT - number of questions:: 150 objective-type multiple-choice questions carrying 150 marks.
9. 2nd Stage CBT - section-wise split:: General Awareness 15 questions / 15 marks, Physics and Chemistry 15 / 15, Basics of Computers and Applications 10 / 10, Basics of Environment and Pollution Control 10 / 10, Technical Abilities 100 / 100.
10. Indicative distribution:: The section-wise distribution is only indicative and there may be some variation in the actual question papers.
11. Negative marking:: One-third of the marks allotted to a question is deducted for each wrong answer, in both CBTs.
12. Compensatory time:: Candidates permitted to use a scribe, and those eligible for a scribe who choose not to use one, may be granted compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of examination.

Selection Process

1. Stage 1:: 1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-I), held on 19.02.2026, 20.02.2026 and 25.02.2026.
2. Shortlisting for Stage 2:: Candidates are shortlisted as per merit in the 1st Stage CBT, duly considering their order of preference for the various posts.
3. Stage 2:: 2nd Stage Computer Based Test, to be intimated in due course.
4. Document Verification:: The subsequent shortlisting for Document Verification will be based on the performance of candidates in the 2nd Stage CBT.
5. Reserved categories:: Candidates shortlisted for the 2nd Stage CBT availing the reservation benefits of OBC (NCL), SC, ST, EWS, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen will continue to be considered only against those categories for all subsequent stages of the recruitment process.

Admit Card Details

1. Exam city intimation:: Candidates will be advised through the official website of the RRBs, SMS and e-mail to download their exam city intimation about 10 days prior to the 2nd Stage CBT.
2. e-call letter:: The e-call letter will be available for download 4 days prior to the CBT date.

Reservation Details

1. Vertical reservation:: This CEN provides vertical reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Class (Non-Creamy Layer) (OBC-NCL), wherever applicable and admissible, as communicated by the indenting Railways under the extant rules.
2. UR vacancies open to all:: All candidates, irrespective of community, are considered against unreserved vacancies subject to fulfilling the UR eligibility conditions. Vacancies reserved for SC, ST, OBC-NCL and EWS are filled only by candidates of that community, and only communities recognised as such by the Government of India are eligible.
3. OBC-NCL certificate:: An OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate in the format at Annexure II must be issued on or after 01.04.2025 and not later than the closing date of the online application. The certificate number, date of issue and caste must be entered in the online application, and the caste must be in the current central list of OBCs at http://www.ncbc.nic.in. A self-declaration in the format at Annexure IIA that the candidate does not belong to the creamy layer on the closing date must also be produced at Document Verification. OBCs in a State list but not in the central list cannot claim the reservation, and creamy-layer OBC candidates are considered as UR.
4. EWS reservation:: Candidates not covered by the SC / ST / OBC-NCL reservation whose family gross annual income is below Rs. 8 lakh are identified as EWS. For this CEN the relevant financial year is 2024-25. Families owning 5 acres of agricultural land or more, a residential flat of 1000 sq ft or more, a residential plot of 100 sq yards or more in a notified municipality, or a residential plot of 200 sq yards or more elsewhere, are excluded irrespective of income. Property in different locations is clubbed. The Income and Asset Certificate in the format at Annexure III must be held as on the closing date and produced at Document Verification, failing which the candidate is considered only against General (UR) vacancies.
5. Horizontal reservation:: Horizontal reservation is provided for Ex-Servicemen and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities irrespective of their social community. The total vacancies shown in the vacancy table include these. Where PwBD vacancies are shown separately as backlog vacancies without any community indication, those are past backlog vacancies and are not included in the regular community vacancies; this CEN shows no backlog PwBD vacancies.
6. Applying without a reserved vacancy:: Ex-Servicemen and PwBD candidates may apply against regular vacancies of a post even where none is exclusively reserved for them (for PwBD, provided the post is suitable for the disability). In such cases they remain eligible for age relaxation and fee exemption only.
7. Unfilled PwBD vacancies:: PwBD vacancies that cannot be filled for want of suitable candidates of that disability are not filled and are treated as shortfall for this notification. For backlog vacancies, they may be filled by PwBD candidates of other disabilities for which the post is suitable, and thereafter by non-PwBD candidates in order of merit.
8. Benchmark disabilities:: Under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 the benchmark disabilities are blindness and low vision (VI); deaf and hard of hearing (HI); locomotor disability (LD) including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy; autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness; and multiple disabilities including deaf-blindness (MD). Only persons with not less than 40 per cent of the relevant benchmark disability are eligible for relaxation or reservation.
9. PwBD sub-category is final:: Candidates must select the appropriate PwBD sub-category (LD / HI / VI / MD) as per their disability certificate while filling the application. No subsequent change of sub-category is allowed, and the certificate along with the Unique Disability Identity (UDID) must be produced at Document Verification.
10. Ex-Servicemen definition:: Ex-Serviceman means a person who has served in any rank, combatant or non-combatant, in the regular Army, Navy or Air Force of the Indian Union, excluding the Defence Security Corps, the General Reserve Engineering Force, the Lok Sahayak Sena and the Para Military Forces, and who was retired, relieved or discharged in the circumstances set out at Para 10.1 of the CEN. Serving personnel due to be released within one year of the closing date may also apply.
11. Ex-Servicemen already in civil employment:: Ex-Servicemen who have already secured civil employment under the Central Government in Group C or erstwhile Group D after availing Ex-Servicemen benefits are allowed only the age relaxation and are not considered against vacancies reserved for Ex-Servicemen.
12. Crucial date for claims:: The crucial date for a claim of SC / ST / OBC-NCL / EWS / EBC status or any other benefit such as fee concession, reservation or age relaxation, where not otherwise specified, is the closing date for submission of the online application, i.e., 30.11.2025.
13. Community status cannot change later:: The community or category declared in the online application determines eligibility for reservation benefits. A subsequent change of community status is not recognised for this recruitment.
14. Free train travel for SC and ST candidates:: A free sleeper class railway pass is provided on request to SC and ST candidates with their e-call letter for the CBT, DV and Medical Examination. The original community certificate must be shown while booking and during the journey; misuse leads to rejection of candidature and debarment.

Document Requirements

1. At Document Verification:: All original documents along with two sets of self-attested photocopies must be submitted at Document Verification, and true-colour scanned copies of the photograph and signature must be uploaded before the DV date at https://oirms-ir.gov.in/rrbdv.
2. Language of certificates:: All certificates must be in English or Hindi. Where they are not, a self-attested translation in Hindi or English must be produced. Certificates must be strictly in the prescribed formats annexed to the CEN; other formats are not accepted.
3. SC / ST certificate:: In the format at Annexure I.
4. OBC-NCL certificate and self-declaration:: OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate in the format at Annexure II, issued on or after 01.04.2025 and not later than the closing date, together with the self-declaration at Annexure IIA.
5. EWS Income and Asset Certificate:: In the format at Annexure III, held as on the closing date of applications.
6. EBC income certificate:: In the format at Annexure III A, or a BPL card, or a certificate issued by the Central Government under a recognised poverty alleviation programme, or an Izzat MST issued by the Railways, issued on or before 30.11.2025.
7. Minority community affidavit:: Affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper in the format at Annexure IV, for minority candidates claiming the fee waiver.
8. Disability certificates:: Certificate of disability in Form V (Annexure V(A)), Form VI (Annexure V(B)) or Form VII (Annexure V(C)) of Rule 18(1) of the RPwD Rules as applicable, along with the Unique Disability Identity (UDID). Scribe-related documents are the letter of undertaking at Annexure V(D), the certificate at Annexure V(E), the undertaking at Annexure V(F) and the certificate of physical limitation at Annexure V(G).
9. Ex-Servicemen declarations:: Self-declaration and undertaking in the format at Annexure VI, and, for personnel still serving on the closing date, an employment certificate with the probable date of discharge in the format at Annexure VI(A), valid as on the closing date.
10. No Objection Certificate:: Candidates serving in a Central or State Government department, the Railways or a PSU must produce an NOC from their employer at Document Verification.
11. Photo identity and photograph at examinations:: A valid original photo ID (Voter ID, Aadhaar card or e-Aadhaar printout, driving licence, PAN card, passport, employer-issued identity card for government employees, or a school / college / university photo ID for those still studying) and a colour passport photograph not older than two months must be carried to the CBT, DV and Medical Examination.

Important Instructions

1. Candidature is provisional:: The candidature of every shortlisted candidate is purely provisional and is liable to be cancelled at any stage of the recruitment or thereafter in case of any inconsistency or deficiency in the data furnished in the online application, or any malpractice coming to the notice of the RRB. Being called for the next stage does not by itself entitle a candidate to an appointment in the Railways.
2. Right to rectify errors:: While every care has been taken in preparing the result, the RRB reserves the right to rectify any inadvertent error or typographical / printing mistake, and regrets its inability to entertain correspondence from unsuccessful candidates.
3. Warning against touts:: Beware of touts who may misguide candidates with false promises of selection on illegal consideration. The recruitment process in the RRB exams is fully computerised and selection is based purely on the merit of candidates.
4. Order of the list:: The roll numbers of the provisionally qualified candidates are arranged horizontally in ascending order and not in order of merit.
5. Updates:: Candidates are advised to regularly visit the RRB's official website for updates.

Disqualification Criteria

1. Multiple applications:: All applications of a candidate who applies more than once, to the same RRB or to different RRBs, are rejected summarily and the candidate is debarred from all future RRB and RRC examinations.
2. Live photograph not as prescribed:: Non-compliance with the live photo capture instructions at Para 14.4 leads to rejection at any stage of the recruitment process.
3. Signature defects:: An online application is liable to be rejected for a non-white background, non-black ink, a signature in block or capital letters instead of running handwriting, poor resolution, an incomplete or partially visible signature, an uploaded image other than the signature, a blank signature, or a thumb impression in place of a signature.
4. Debarred candidates:: A candidate whose name figures in the debarred list of any RRB or RRC will be rejected.
5. False information:: If at any stage of the recruitment, or afterwards, it is found that a candidate has furnished false or incorrect information, suppressed material facts, or does not satisfy the eligibility criteria, the candidature or appointment is cancelled immediately, the candidate is removed from service if already appointed, and is debarred from all future RRB and RRC examinations for life.
6. Unauthorised use of a scribe:: Use of a scribe or of compensatory time by a candidate not eligible for it leads to disqualification from the recruitment and, if already appointed, removal from service without notice. A scribe found independently answering questions leads to termination of the examination session and cancellation of the candidature.
7. Absence at Document Verification:: Candidates absent at Document Verification, or who fail to produce their original certificates on the date of verification, forfeit their candidature; no additional time is given.
8. Rejected applications:: Details of rejected applications and the reasons for rejection can be viewed by logging in on the website of the RRB concerned. The reasons are final and binding, no correspondence is entertained and no examination fee is refunded on account of rejection. SMS and email alerts are also sent; candidates are not intimated by post.

Probation Period

1. Training:: Selected candidates have to undergo training wherever prescribed and only a stipend is paid during the training period. The CEN does not state a probation period.
