Job Details

Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) No. 04/2026 of the Railway Recruitment Boards, Ministry of Railways, Government of India, for recruitment to 3,993 posts of Junior Engineer (36 categories across the Electrical, Engineering, Mechanical and Signal and Telecommunication departments) and Depot Material Superintendent (Stores department). All posts are in Level 6 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix with an initial pay of Rs. 35,400 per month. Vacancies are distributed across the 21 Railway Recruitment Boards and, within them, across the Indian Railway zones and Production Units. The minimum qualification is a three years Diploma in Engineering in the discipline prescribed for the post, with B.E. or B.Tech in the same discipline accepted in lieu, and the age limit is 18 to 33 years reckoned as on 01.01.2027. Applications are online only, through the RRB websites, and each candidate may apply to one RRB alone. Selection is by a screening 1st stage Computer Based Test, a 2nd stage Computer Based Test, Document Verification and a Medical Examination; appointment is made by the concerned Zonal Railway on the recommendation of the RRB.

Vacancies are notified by 21 Railway Recruitment Boards and, within each Board, by the Railway zones and Production Units listed in Annexure B (Central, East Central, East Coast, Eastern, Northern, North Central, North Eastern, Northeast Frontier, North Western, Southern, South Central, South Coast, South Eastern, South East Central, South Western, Western and West Central Railways, and the Integral Coach Factory, Rail Coach Factory, Modern Coach Factory, Rail Wheel Factory, Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, Banaras Locomotive Works and RDSO).
Transfer: A railway servant is ordinarily employed throughout service on the Railway or establishment of first appointment and has no right to transfer. No request for transfer to another Railway is registered until at least 5 to 10 years of service are completed, so candidates are advised to choose their RRB with care.
Examination cities: Not named in this notice. City and centre allocation and CBT dates are decided on technical and logistical feasibility, and candidates may have to travel to other cities or states. No request for change of examination date, centre or shift is allowed.

Job Summary

Recruitment by the Railway Recruitment Boards to 3,993 Level 6 posts of Junior Engineer and Depot Material Superintendent under CEN No. 04/2026. Fee Structure

Application Fee

1. All candidates other than those listed below:: Rs. 500. Of this, Rs. 400 is refunded, less applicable bank charges, on appearing in the 1st stage CBT.
2. SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, female, transgender, minority and Economically Backward Class (EBC) candidates:: Rs. 250, refunded in full less applicable bank charges on appearing in the 1st stage CBT.
3. Modification fee:: Rs. 250 per occasion, non-refundable, payable by all candidates irrespective of community or category, for each modification of a submitted application.
4. Fee difference on modification:: A candidate who modifies his or her community from SC/ST to UR, OBC or EWS, or switches from Ex-Servicemen / female / transgender / PwBD to UR / OBC-NCL / EWS / non-Ex-Servicemen / non-PwBD / male, must pay the Rs. 250 difference in examination fee in addition to the modification fee, failing which the modified application is not accepted.

Payment Methods

1. Online only:: Fee is payable online only, through internet banking, debit or credit card, or UPI. There is no other mode of payment. All applicable service charges are borne by the candidate.
2. Applications without fee:: Applications received without the prescribed fee are summarily rejected and no representation against such rejection is entertained.

Other Information

1. Minority candidates:: Minorities include Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Zoroastrians (Parsis), subject to any revision, deletion or inclusion received up to 13.09.2026. Minority candidates claiming the fee waiver must furnish an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper in the format at Annexure IV at Document Verification, failing which their candidature is liable to be rejected.
2. Economically Backward Class (EBC):: EBC candidates are those whose annual family income is less than Rs. 50,000. They must hold, on the date of application, a valid income certificate in the format at Annexure III(A) issued by a District Magistrate or a revenue officer up to the level of Tahsildar, a sitting Lok Sabha MP for his or her own constituency, a sitting Rajya Sabha MP for the district in which he or she normally resides, or a Union Minister; or a BPL card or another certificate issued by the Central Government under a recognised poverty alleviation programme; or an Izzat MST issued by the Railways. A document issued after 13.09.2026 will not be accepted. EBC entitles a candidate to fee concession only, not to job reservation, and is distinct from OBC and from EWS.
3. Refund of examination fee:: Only candidates who attend the 1st stage CBT receive a refund. The refund is credited only to the bank account seeded with the candidate's Aadhaar number, which is validated during the application; where no Aadhaar-seeded account is found the candidate is redirected to the NPCI portal to link one. Candidates without a bank account may give a family member's Aadhaar-seeded account.
4. No refund:: No refund is made where the application is incomplete, not submitted, or rejected, or where the Aadhaar-seeded bank account linked by the candidate is found to be non-operational. Responsibility for a valid and operational Aadhaar-seeded account rests solely with the candidate.
5. Cancellation of vacancies:: If the notified vacancies are cancelled, the examination fee is not refunded except to candidates who attended the CBT.

Exam Group - Electrical and Allied Engineering	Electrical Engineering and combinations of any sub-stream of the basic streams of Electrical Engineering.
Exam Group - Electronics and Allied Engineering	Electronics, Instrumentation and Control, Communication, Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, and combinations of sub-streams of those basic streams.
Exam Group - Civil and Allied Engineering	Civil Engineering, combinations of any sub-stream of the basic streams of Civil Engineering, and B.Sc. in Civil Engineering of three years duration.

Relaxation - Quasi-administrative offices of the Railway organisation	Candidates working in Railway canteens, co-operative societies and institutes: relaxation up to the length of service rendered or 5 years, whichever is less.
Maximum upper age ceiling - widowed, divorced or judicially separated women	Female candidates who are widowed, divorced or judicially separated from their husband but not remarried may apply up to a maximum age of 35 years (UR and EWS), 38 years (OBC-NCL) or 40 years (SC and ST). These are ceilings on age, not a second upper age limit for the post.
Relaxations are not cumulative	A candidate eligible for age relaxation on more than one ground gets the largest single relaxation for which he or she is eligible, not the sum of them.
Reserved-community candidates against UR vacancies	SC, ST and OBC-NCL candidates applying against UR vacancies get no age relaxation. PwBD candidates applying against UR vacancies get only the PwBD (UR) relaxation, subject to suitability.
Date of birth	The date of birth entered in the application must match the Matriculation / SSLC or equivalent certificate. No subsequent request for change of date of birth will be considered; any difference leads to disqualification.

5. Citizenship

Eligible nationalities	A candidate must be a citizen of India, or a citizen of Nepal, or a subject of Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Certificate of eligibility	Candidates in the second, third and fourth of the above categories must hold a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India. They may be admitted provisionally, but must produce the certificate at Document Verification, failing which their candidature is rejected.

6. Physical Requirements

LASIK surgery	Candidates who have undergone LASIK surgery or any other refractive surgery are not eligible for posts requiring medical standard A-3. They may be eligible for B-1 subject to no complications, the surgery being at least one year old and certified by the operating institution's specialist, residual corneal thickness of not less than 425 microns on pachymetry, visual acuity as per Para 512(1)(A) of IRMM Vol. I, a normal fundus and no evidence of progressive eye disease.
Failure to meet the standard	A candidate who fails the prescribed medical standard for the opted post is not empanelled and is offered no alternative appointment. One final medical appeal may be allowed on payment of the prescribed charges; the appeal result is final and binding.
Source of the standards	The standards printed in the notice are indicative and not exhaustive; Chapter 5 of the Indian Railway Medical Manual Volume I governs. Ex-Servicemen are covered by Para 534 and PwBD candidates by Para 511(7) of the same manual.

7. Other Eligibility

No Objection Certificate	Candidates serving in any Central or State Government department, including the Railways, or in a Public Sector Undertaking (including those on induction training or probation) may apply directly after informing their employer, and must produce an NOC from that employer on the date of Document Verification, failing which their candidature is cancelled.
Debarred candidates	Candidates currently debarred by any RRB or Railway Recruitment Cell must not apply; their candidature will be rejected at whatever stage it is detected.
Dismissed from service	Candidates dismissed from service by the Government of India, a State Government, a PSU or any other government organisation are not eligible.
One application only	Only one online application may be submitted, to a single RRB. Multiple applications to different RRBs or to the same RRB lead to rejection of all of them and to debarment from future RRB and RRC examinations.
Crucial date for category status	Where not otherwise specified, the closing date for submission of the online application is the crucial date for claiming SC / ST / OBC-NCL / EWS / EBC status and any benefit flowing from it, including fee concession, reservation and age relaxation.

Cut Off Marks

1. Minimum qualifying marks (both CBT-1 and CBT-2):: UR 40%, EWS 40%, OBC-NCL 30%, SC 30%, ST 25%. The same percentages apply to Ex-Servicemen according to their community.
2. Relaxation for PwBD candidates:: The qualifying percentage may be relaxed by 2 marks for PwBD candidates where there is a shortage of PwBD candidates against the vacancies reserved for them.

How to Apply

1. Online only:: Applications are submitted online only, through the link provided on the official RRB websites, and must be complete in all respects by 23:59 hours on 13.09.2026.
2. Create an Account:: A candidate must first create an account for this CEN using the link on the official RRB website. Candidates who already created an account for an earlier RRB CEN must use the same login credentials. A valid personal mobile number and an active email ID are mandatory for the OTPs. Nothing entered in the 'Create an Account' form, including the mobile number and email ID, can be changed later.
3. Identity authentication:: Candidates are strongly advised to authenticate their identity through DigiLocker or Aadhaar during account creation, or through the 'Verify Aadhaar' facility while filling the application and before final submission. Those who verify through an alternate photo ID are subjected to significantly stricter and more detailed scrutiny at every stage.
4. Name and date of birth:: Name, father's name, mother's name and date of birth must be entered exactly as recorded in the SSC / SSLC / Matriculation / 10th class certificate. Where the name has since changed, both names must be indicated at the appropriate places, and a Gazette notification or other legal document with a valid photo ID in the changed name must be produced at the CBT or Document Verification.
5. Choice of RRB and preferences:: A candidate must choose only one RRB and indicate, within that RRB alone, preferences for the Railway zones and the posts or categories notified for which he or she is eligible and interested. Partial options are considered only for the zones and posts opted for; where no option is given for a post or category, unwillingness is presumed. Options once exercised are final. Multiple applications to different RRBs or to the same RRB lead to rejection of all of them and to debarment.
6. Live photograph:: No pre-existing photograph is uploaded. The application module captures a live photograph through a webcam or the front camera of a mobile phone. Candidates should wear non-white, preferably dark clothing, position the camera at eye level, look straight ahead with a neutral expression, keep the whole face visible and centred within the frame, and wear no cap, mask or spectacles. The photograph may be previewed and retaken until the application is submitted. Photographing a printed or digital pre-existing photograph leads to summary rejection. If the live photograph fails validation and matching, the candidate must download Annexure VII, have it signed by a Gazetted Officer and upload it as proof of identity.
7. Signature upload:: A scanned signature must be uploaded: written by the candidate alone, with a black ink pen on white paper, in running (cursive) handwriting and not in block, capital or disjointed letters; scanned at a minimum of 100 DPI; JPG or JPEG format; file size between 30 KB and 49 KB; minimum dimensions 140 x 60 pixels; centred within a scan box of 35 mm x 20 mm. Certain PwBD candidates whose disability prevents them from signing may upload a fingerprint image in the order left thumb, right thumb, any finger of the hands, any finger of the feet.
8. SC/ST certificate for the free travel pass:: SC and ST candidates who want the free railway travel pass must upload their SC/ST certificate as a PDF of less than 400 KB, legible and valid as on the closing date of application.
9. Fee payment:: After submitting the application the candidate is directed to pay the examination fee online. The application is accepted only after confirmation of fee payment, which is notified by email and SMS.
10. Scribe details:: A candidate who has opted for a scribe must log in during the five-day window immediately after the modification window closes (26.09.2026 to 30.09.2026), enter the scribe's One-Time Registration number, and confirm the scribe with the OTP sent to the scribe's registered mobile number. The scribe must first register at rrbapply.gov.in through the Scribe Registration link.
11. Modification of a submitted application:: Details other than those in the 'Create an Account' form and the chosen RRB may be modified any number of times between 16.09.2026 and 25.09.2026 on payment of a non-refundable fee of Rs. 250 per occasion. No representation for modification is entertained after 25.09.2026.
12. Common Services Centres:: Candidates may use the Common Services Centres of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to submit the online application and pay the fee. The list is at www.csc.gov.in and the nearest centre can be found at https://findmycsc.nic.in/csc/.
13. Apply early:: Candidates are advised to apply well before the closing date, since heavy internet or website traffic is likely in the final days. RRBs are not responsible if a candidate cannot submit the application within the last date for any reason.

1. CBT-I - questions and duration:: 100 objective questions with multiple choices in 90 minutes (120 minutes for candidates eligible for a scribe).

Selection Process

1. Stages:: 1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-I), 2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-II), Document Verification (DV) and Medical Examination (ME).
2. CBT-I:: Common to all posts notified under this CEN and of screening nature only. The normalised score is used solely to shortlist candidates for CBT-II in order of merit.
3. Shortlisting for CBT-II:: 15 times the community-wise total vacancy of the posts notified against the RRB, on the basis of normalised CBT-I marks. The Railways reserve the right to increase or decrease this limit in total or for any category.
4. Shortlisting for Document Verification:: On the basis of normalised CBT-II marks, RRB-wise, at the ratio of 1:1 of the vacancies for that RRB - that is, the number shortlisted equals the number of vacancies.
5. Normalisation:: Where a CBT is conducted in multiple sessions on the same syllabus, raw marks are converted to normalised marks. Raw marks for a single-session CBT and normalised marks for a multi-session CBT are used to compute the Merit Index.
6. Merit Index:: Merit Index = Sq + (St - Sq) x (M - Mq) / (Mt - Mq), where M is the candidate's marks (raw for a single-session exam, normalised for a multi-session exam), Mq is the qualifying mark for a general category candidate in the paper (40), Mt is the mean mark of the top 0.1% or the top 10 candidates, whichever is larger, who appeared in the paper, Sq is 350 (the score assigned to Mq) and St is 900 (the score assigned to Mt). The Merit Index is the candidate's relative score within the discipline and allows a single merit list to be drawn across Exam Groups.
7. Who gets a Merit Index:: UR, EWS, OBC-NCL, SC and ST candidates whose actual (single-session) or normalised (multi-session) marks are at or above the community qualifying marks.
8. Tie-breaking:: Where two or more candidates secure equal marks, the older candidate is placed higher; where the age is also the same, the alphabetical order (A to Z) of the given name, not the surname, decides.
9. Empanelment:: Empanelment is on merit and is subject to successful Document Verification and passing the prescribed Medical Examination. Post and Railway or Unit are allotted according to the candidate's options, subject to merit, reservation, medical fitness and the vacancy position on the date the panel is finalised. Once empanelled, a candidate forfeits the right to be considered for any other post or category in the same pay level.
10. Appointment:: RRBs only recommend the names of empanelled candidates. The offer of appointment is issued by the respective Railway Administration, subject to availability of vacancies, medical fitness, final verification of educational and community certificates and verification of antecedents and character. Selection by an RRB confers no right of appointment.
11. Shortfall in empanelment:: In case of a shortfall in empanelment or other exigencies, the RRBs may go further down the merit list, subject to merit and the options of those candidates; this confers no vested right on them.

Admit Card Details

1. Where to download:: E-call letters for the CBTs and for Document Verification are downloaded only from the website of the concerned RRB. No call letter is sent by post.
2. When:: The e-call letter for a CBT can be downloaded about four days before the date of the test; the city of examination is intimated about ten days in advance. Eligible candidates are also informed by SMS and email, but should visit the RRB websites regularly since SMS and email delivery can fail.
3. What to bring:: The e-call letter together with a valid original photo ID - voter ID card, Aadhaar card or e-Aadhaar printout, driving licence, PAN card, passport, an employer-issued identity card for government employees, or a school, college or university photo ID for those still studying. Candidates must also bring a colour passport photograph not older than two months from the date of the CBT, DV or ME.
4. Self-declaration:: The self-declaration paragraph must be written, signed and given a left thumb impression at the examination venue in the invigilator's presence and handed over before the examination ends. Writing it in advance, or signing in capital letters, leads to rejection.
5. Free travel authority:: For SC and ST candidates who are eligible and have opted for free train travel, the e-call letter itself carries the free sleeper class travel authority. They book tickets on a self-attested photocopy of the e-call letter and the SC/ST certificate, and must carry the original community certificate and an original prescribed photo ID during the journey, failing which they are treated as travelling without a ticket.
6. Scribe's call letter:: A separate e-call letter is issued to a scribe accompanying a candidate. The scribe must carry the original valid identity proof used at registration on the day of the examination.
7. No change of centre, date or shift:: The centre, date and shift shown on the e-call letter are final; no request for change is entertained under any circumstances.

Vertical reservation:: Vertical reservation applies for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer), wherever applicable and admissible and as communicated by the indenting Railways. All candidates, whatever their community, are considered against unreserved vacancies; vacancies reserved for a group are filled only by candidates of that group.
2. OBC-NCL certificate:: An OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate in the format at Annexure II, issued on or after 1 April 2026 but not later than the closing date of the online application, is required, and the caste must appear in the current central list of OBCs at www.ncbc.nic.in. A self-declaration in the format at Annexure II(A) that the candidate does not belong to the creamy layer on the closing date must also be given at Document Verification. OBC candidates in the creamy layer, and OBCs on a state list but not the central list, are not entitled to the reservation and may be considered as UR.
3. EWS:: Candidates not covered by the reservation for SC, ST or OBC (central list) whose family gross annual income for financial year 2025-26 is below Rs. 8 lakh are identified as EWS. Families owning 5 acres of agricultural land or more, a residential flat of 1,000 sq ft or more, a residential plot of 100 sq yards or more in a notified municipality, or of 200 sq yards or more elsewhere, are excluded irrespective of income; property in different places is clubbed for this test. An Income and Asset Certificate in the format at Annexure III, held as on the closing date and issued by one of the specified authorities, is required.
4. Horizontal reservation:: Horizontal reservation applies for Ex-Servicemen and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities irrespective of their social community. The vacancies shown in the vacancy table include those reserved for ExSM and PwBD. Where PwBD vacancies are shown separately as backlog vacancies, without a community indication, those are past backlog vacancies and are not included in the regular community vacancies. This CEN notifies no backlog PwBD vacancies.
5. Applying where no vacancy is reserved:: Ex-Servicemen and PwBD candidates may apply against regular vacancies of a post even where none is reserved for them - for PwBD, provided the post is suitable for the disability - but then get only age relaxation and fee exemption.
6. Unfilled PwBD vacancies:: PwBD vacancies that cannot be filled for want of suitable candidates are not filled and are treated as shortfall for this notification. Backlog PwBD vacancies, however, may be filled by PwBD candidates of other disabilities for which the post is suitable, and thereafter by non-PwBD candidates in order of merit.
7. Benchmark disability threshold:: Only persons suffering from not less than 40 per cent of the relevant benchmark disability are eligible for PwBD relaxation or reservation. A Certificate of Disability in Form V or VI of Rule 18(1) of the RPwD (Amendment) Rules, 2024 (Annexure V(A) and V(B)) is required, together with the Unique Disability ID. The PwBD sub-category selected in the application cannot be changed later. Candidates whose disability is classified as 'likely to improve' under the temporary disability category are not eligible for reservation.
8. Ex-Servicemen:: Ex-Serviceman means a person who served in any rank in the regular Army, Navy or Air Force and was retired, relieved, discharged, released on medical grounds, released on reduction of establishment or released on completing the engagement with gratuity; it excludes the Defence Security Corps, the General Reserve Engineering Force, the Lok Sahayak Sena and the paramilitary forces. Serving personnel due for release within one year of the closing date may apply. Ex-Servicemen who have already taken civil employment in Group C or erstwhile Group D under the Central Government after availing ExSM benefits get only age relaxation and are not considered against ExSM-reserved vacancies.
9. Change of community status:: The community or category declared in the online application determines eligibility for reservation benefits; a later change of community status is not recognised for this recruitment. A fraudulent claim of SC, ST, OBC or EWS status leads to cancellation of candidature or appointment, permanent debarment from all RRB and RRC examinations, and possible legal proceedings.
10. Free train travel:: A free sleeper class railway pass is admissible to SC and ST candidates only, if opted for in the application, for the CBT, DV and Medical Examination stages.

Document Requirements

1. Uploaded with the application:: The candidate's signature in JPG/JPEG format as specified, and - only for SC and ST candidates seeking the free travel pass - the SC/ST certificate in PDF. The photograph is captured live and is not uploaded.
2. At Document Verification:: All original documents together with two self-attested photocopy sets. Scanned true-colour copies of the photograph and signature must also be uploaded before the DV date through https://oirms-ir.gov.in/rrbdv.
3. Language of certificates:: Certificates must be in English or Hindi; otherwise a self-attested translation into English or Hindi must be produced. Certificates must be strictly in the formats annexed to the CEN, and certificates in any other format are not accepted.
4. Reservation and relaxation certificates:: Candidates seeking reserved vacancies or age relaxation must produce the relevant original certificate from the competent authority in the prescribed format at Document Verification; otherwise the claim to SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, ExSM or PwBD status is not entertained and the candidature is considered under the General (UR) category if eligible.
5. Educational qualification certificates:: Provisional or regular certificates must show the date of issue. Where the date of issue is after the closing date of the application, the consolidated marks sheet showing the date of declaration of the final qualifying examination result, or individual semester or year mark sheets each showing the date of declaration, must be produced. Where no such date is available, a certificate from the Board, University or Institution stating the date of declaration of the result is required.
6. Other documents:: Certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India for non-Indian nationals covered by Para 4.0; NOC from the present employer for serving government and PSU candidates; the minority affidavit at Annexure IV for minority candidates claiming the fee waiver; the EBC income certificate at Annexure III(A), BPL card or Izzat MST for EBC candidates; and the Ex-Servicemen declaration at Annexure VI, with the employment certificate at Annexure VI(A) for those still serving.
7. Absence or failure to produce originals:: No additional time is given to candidates who do not produce their original certificates on the date of Document Verification, and their candidature is liable to be cancelled. Candidature of candidates absent from Document Verification is cancelled.

Important Instructions

1. Read the CEN first:: Candidates must read the whole notice, and in particular Annexure A (post parameters) and Annexure B (RRB and zone/PU-wise vacancies), before applying, to ascertain their eligibility.
2. Qualification must be held by the closing date:: All prescribed educational and technical qualifications must be held on or before the closing date for submission of the application. Candidates awaiting the final result of a prescribed qualification are not eligible to apply.
3. Eligibility is provisional:: Eligibility is treated as provisional on the strength of the details furnished online. RRBs do not scrutinise applications for eligibility in detail beforehand; certificates are called for at Document Verification, and a claim not substantiated there cancels the candidature.
4. Medical fitness:: Candidates must satisfy themselves that they meet the medical standard prescribed for the posts they opt for. A candidate found medically unsuitable for the opted posts is given no alternative appointment.
5. Mobile number and email:: Candidates must keep an active personal mobile number and a valid personal email ID throughout the recruitment, as all communication is by SMS and email. No request for a change of either is entertained at any stage.
6. Examination city and dates:: City allocation, centre allocation and CBT dates are decided on technical and logistical feasibility, and candidates may have to travel to other cities or states. No request for a change of examination date, centre or shift is allowed.
7. Banned items:: Mobile phones, pagers, watches, earphones, Bluetooth devices, microphones, health bands, calculators, books, pens, paper, pencils, erasers, pouches, scales, writing pads, belts, handbags, caps, purses, cameras, water bottles and packaged or open food are not allowed inside the test centre; only the e-call letter is. A pen is provided during the examination. Candidates are advised not to apply henna or mehndi on their hands or feet, as it obstructs the capture of biometrics. Cloakroom facilities may not be available at the venue.
8. Biometrics:: Biometric details are recorded at every stage of the recruitment. A mismatch entitles the RRB to disqualify the candidate and take legal action, and the RRBs may run further authentication and background checks.
9. Malpractice:: Any candidate using unfair means, sending a substitute or attempting to impersonate is debarred for life from all RRB and RRC examinations and from appointment in the Railways, is dismissed if already appointed, and is liable to prosecution under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act and Rules, 2024. The RRBs run post-examination log analysis, photograph and biometric verification and CCTV review.
10. Beware of touts and fake websites:: The RRBs appoint no agents or coaching centres and select candidates purely on merit. Candidates should use only the official website https://rrb.indianrailways.gov.in/ and beware of fake websites and social media content.
11. English version prevails:: In the event of any dispute about interpretation, the English version of the notification and of any subsequent amendment, corrigendum or important notice published on the official RRB websites is final.
12. Jurisdiction:: Legal issues arising after an application is provisionally accepted and an e-call letter issued fall within the jurisdiction of the Central Administrative Tribunal or High Court covering the chosen RRB. Where the candidature is rejected at the application stage, jurisdiction lies with the Central Administrative Tribunal, Cuttack, or the High Court for the State of Odisha.

Training Details

1. Training:: Selected candidates undergo training wherever prescribed, and only a stipend is paid during the training period.

Bond or Service Agreement

1. Security or indemnity bond:: Selected candidates execute a security and/or indemnity bond wherever necessary at the time of joining the Railway or post.
2. Territorial Army:: Candidates finally appointed are liable for active service in the Railway Engineers Unit of the Territorial Army.

Disqualification Criteria

1. Multiple applications:: More than one application, to different RRBs or to the same RRB, causes all of them to be rejected and the candidate to be debarred from all future RRB and RRC examinations. Applications with minor changes of information or facts submitted to more than one RRB are treated the same way.
2. Photograph and signature:: Non-compliance with the live-photograph instructions or the signature specifications leads to rejection at any stage. Signature grounds for rejection include a signature by another person, a non-white background, non-black ink, block or capital letters, poor resolution, an incomplete signature, uploading an image that is not the signature, no signature at all, and a thumb impression in place of a signature.
3. Debarred candidates:: A candidate whose name figures in the debarred list of any RRB or RRC is rejected.
4. False information:: False or incorrect information, suppression of material facts or failure to satisfy the eligibility criteria leads to rejection of the candidature at any stage, or removal from service and lifetime debarment if discovered after appointment.
5. Unauthorised scribe or compensatory time:: A candidate who is not eligible for a scribe but uses one, or who takes compensatory time without being entitled to it, is disqualified from the recruitment and can be removed from railway service without notice if already appointed. A scribe found answering questions independently ends the candidate's examination session and cancels the candidature. A scribe may assist only one candidate in the same CEN, and a candidate of the same CEN may not act as a scribe.
6. Employer withholding permission:: Where an employer writes to the RRB withholding permission for the candidate to apply for or appear in the examination, the application or candidature is liable to be rejected or cancelled.
7. Viewing rejections:: Details of rejected applications and the reasons for rejection can be viewed by logging in to the concerned RRB's website; the reasons are final and binding, no correspondence is entertained and no fee is refunded on account of rejection.

Other Information

1. Scope of this notice:: CEN No. 04/2026 covers Junior Engineer and Depot Material Superintendent only. Despite the job title held in this system, no Chemical and Metallurgical Assistant post appears anywhere in this notice - the words 'Chemical', 'Metallurgical' and 'CMA' do not occur in the document. CMA posts belong to a different CEN.
2. The notice carries no date of its own:: The document has no 'Ref. No.' line, no date in the page-1 title block and no date in the running header on any of its 77 pages. The only date resembling one is '25.07.2026 - Date of Indicative Notice in Employment News' in the Important Dates table on page 4, which is the date of a separate, earlier indicative notice and not the date of this detailed CEN, so it has not been taken as this document's date.
3. Vacancy figures reconciled:: The Annexure B tables were reconstructed row by row and checked arithmetically. All 330 post-and-zone rows have UR + SC + ST + OBC-NCL + EWS equal to their printed total; the rows of each of the 21 RRBs sum exactly to that RRB's printed total; and the 21 RRB totals sum exactly to the printed grand total of 3,993 (UR 1,699, SC 624, ST 363, OBC-NCL 913, EWS 394). The 37 post-wise totals also sum to 3,993.
4. Medical standard B-2:: Annexure A assigns medical standard B-2 to seven design posts (categories 1, 15, 22, 24 and 32), but the medical fitness table at Para 3.0 defines only A-3, B-1 and C-1. B-2 has been recorded as printed; the notice does not define its vision standard, and refers candidates to Chapter 5 of the Indian Railway Medical Manual.
5. Duplicate post names:: Five pairs of categories share a post name and differ only by sub-department (Junior Engineer / Electrical / Design Drawing and Estimation, Junior Engineer / Civil / Design Drawing and Estimation, Junior Engineer / P. Way, Junior Engineer / Works and Junior Engineer / Mechanical / Design Drawing and Estimation). The sub-department has been added in brackets to keep them distinct; each post also carries its category number from the CEN.
6. Data not carried over:: The vacancy figures are provisional and are those printed in this CEN. No figure, date or eligibility condition has been taken from any other RRB notice.
7. Withdrawal and modification rights:: The RRBs reserve the right to introduce additional CBTs or additional Document Verification, to reschedule any stage, to cancel part or all of the recruitment for any notified category without assigning a reason, and to change, modify, add to or delete any term or condition of this CEN at any stage.
8. Consent to share scores:: With the candidate's consent, indicated in the online application, the RRBs may share the marks obtained with other ministries, departments, public sector undertakings and private organisations for their own recruitment.
