The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, invite online applications through Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) No. 03/2026 for 119 posts of Section Controller in the Zonal Railways of Indian Railways. The post carries 7th CPC Pay Matrix Level 6 with an initial pay of Rs. 35,400 per month and requires medical standard A-2. Applicants must hold a graduate degree from a recognised university or its equivalent and be between 20 and 33 years of age as on 01.07.2026, with relaxations for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, serving Railway staff, employees of quasi-administrative Railway offices, and widowed, divorced or judicially separated women. Applications are submitted online to one chosen RRB only. Selection is made through a single-stage Computer Based Test, a Computer Based Aptitude Test, Document Verification and a medical examination, with the final merit drawn as 70 per cent of the CBT score and 30 per cent of the CBAT score among candidates who qualify the CBAT. - Coverage: All-India. Vacancies are spread across 21 Railway Recruitment Boards and 16 Zonal Railways; a candidate applies to one RRB and gives an order of zone preference within it.
- Posting: Ordinarily a Railway servant serves throughout his or her service on the Railway or establishment of first appointment; no request for transfer to another Railway is registered until at least 5 to 10 years of service are completed.

- Rs. 500. Of this, Rs. 400 is refunded, after deduction of bank charges, on appearing in the CBT.
- 2. Female, Transgender, Ex-Servicemen, SC, ST, Minority community, Economically Backward Class (EBC) and PwBD candidates:
- Rs. 250. This amount is refunded in due course, after deduction of applicable bank charges, on appearing in the CBT.
- 3. Modification fee:
- Rs. 250 (non-refundable) for each occasion on which a submitted application is modified, payable by all candidates irrespective of community or category, during 17.08.2026 to 26.08.2026.
- 4. Fee difference on modification:
- A candidate changing community from SC/ST to UR, OBC or EWS, or switching from Ex-Servicemen, Female, Transgender or PwBD to UR, OBC-NCL, EWS, non-Ex-Servicemen, non-PwBD or male, must pay the Rs. 250 difference in examination fee in addition to the modification fee; otherwise the modified application is not accepted.

- Online only, through internet banking, debit or credit card, or UPI. There is no other mode of payment and all service charges are borne by the candidate.
- 2. Confirmation:
- The online application is accepted only after confirmation of fee payment; confirmation is sent by email and SMS.

- 1. Minority definition:
- Minorities include Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Zoroastrians (Parsis), subject to any revision, deletion or inclusion received till 14.08.2026. Minority candidates claiming the fee waiver must furnish an affidavit of minority community declaration on non-judicial stamp paper in the format at Annexure V at Document Verification, failing which candidature is liable to be rejected.
- 2. EBC definition:
- Economically Backward Class candidates are those whose annual family income is less than Rs. 50,000. They must hold, on the date of application, a valid income certificate in the prescribed format, or a BPL card or other certificate issued by the Central Government under a recognised poverty alleviation programme, or an Izzat MST issued by the Railways. Any such document issued after the closing date of 14.08.2026 is not accepted, and the original must be produced at Document Verification. EBC, EWS and OBC are three distinct categories; an EBC candidate is entitled only to fee concession and not to job reservation.
- 3. Income certificate authorities for EBC:
- District Magistrate or any other Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar; a sitting Member of the Lok Sabha for persons of his or her own constituency; a sitting Member of the Rajya Sabha for persons of the district in which the member normally resides; or a Union Minister for any person anywhere in the country.
- 4. Refund route:
- Refunds, less bank charges, are credited only to the bank account seeded with the candidate's Aadhaar number. The Aadhaar number is validated during the application and the linked account is shown for confirmation; if no account is seeded, the candidate is redirected to the NPCI portal for real-time Aadhaar to bank account linking. A candidate without a bank account may give a family member's Aadhaar-seeded account.
- 5. No refund:
- No refund is made where the application is incomplete, not submitted or rejected, or where the Aadhaar-seeded bank account is found non-operational. If notified vacancies are cancelled, the fee is not refunded except to candidates who attended the CBT.
- 6. Applications without fee:
- Applications received without the prescribed fee are not considered and are summarily rejected, and no representation against such rejection is entertained.

How to Apply
- 1. Mode:
- Online only, through the link provided on the official websites of the RRBs listed at Para 19 of the CEN. Applications are submitted to one chosen RRB, and one application covers all posts notified by that RRB under this CEN.
- 2. Create an Account:
- A candidate must first create an account using the link on the official RRB websites. A candidate who already created an account for a CEN notified in 2024, 2025 or 2026 must use the same login credentials. A valid personal mobile number and an active email ID are mandatory for the OTPs required during account creation. Details entered in the 'Create an Account' form, including the mobile number and email ID, cannot be changed at any stage.
- 3. Identity authentication:
- Candidates are strongly advised to authenticate their identity using DigiLocker or Aadhaar during account creation, or later through the 'Verify Aadhaar' facility before final submission. Applicants who verify through alternate photo IDs are subject to significantly stricter and more detailed scrutiny at every stage.
- 4. Choices to be made:
- Candidates must read the Post Parameter Table (Annexure-A) and the Vacancy Table (Annexure-B) before choosing the RRB and the order of zone preference within it, and must choose the medium of examination. The choice of RRB and the language option are final and cannot be changed.
- 5. Live photograph:
- No pre-existing photograph is uploaded. The application module captures a live photograph through a webcam or the front camera of a mobile phone. The candidate must sit or stand facing the camera at eye level with a neutral expression, in non-white and preferably dark clothing, with the whole face visible and centred in the frame, and without a cap, mask or spectacles. The photo may be previewed and retaken until the application is submitted. Photographing a printed or digital pre-existing photograph leads to summary rejection. If the live photo fails validation and matching, the candidate must download Annexure-IX, have it signed by a Gazetted Officer and upload it as proof of identity.
- 6. Payment:
- After submission the candidate is directed to the payment of the examination fee. The application is accepted only after confirmation of fee payment, which is confirmed by email and SMS.
- 7. Modification:
- After final submission with fee, any detail except those in the 'Create an Account' form and the chosen RRB may be modified on payment of a non-refundable fee of Rs. 250 per occasion, any number of times, during 17.08.2026 to 26.08.2026. No representation for modification is entertained after 26.08.2026.
- 8. Common Service Centres:

- 9. Advice on timing:
- Candidates are advised to register and submit well before the closing date, as heavy internet or website load in the final days may prevent access. RRBs accept no responsibility for a candidate being unable to apply in time.
Exam Pattern
- 1. Mode and duration:
- Computer Based Test, 120 minutes, 100 questions of 1 mark each, objective type with multiple choices.
- 2. Section-wise distribution (indicative):
- Analytical and Mathematical Capability 60 questions, Logical Capability 20 questions, Mental Reasoning 20 questions; total 100 questions in 120 minutes. The distribution is indicative and the actual paper may vary.
- 3. Negative marking:
- One-third of the marks for each question is deducted for a wrong answer.
- 4. CBAT:
- Computer Based Aptitude Test made up of test batteries, in English and Hindi only, with no negative marking; a minimum T-Score of 42 is required in each battery.
Syllabus Details
- 1. Mathematics:
- Number system, ratio and proportion, averages, percentages, profit, loss and discounts, time, speed and distance, power and work, algebra, linear equations, arithmetic progression, LCM, HCF, geometry, area and volumes, and probability and statistics (both at basic level only).
- 2. Data analysis and interpretation:
- Multi-source data analysis - examination, analysis and drawing of inferences from text, tabular data and graphically represented data such as charts, graphs, scatter plots, pie charts, statistical curve distributions and Venn diagrams; data sufficiency and data arrangement.
- 3. Logical reasoning:
- Binary logic, syllogism, clocks and calendars, assumptions, blood relations, family tree, and solving logic-based puzzles.
- 4. Reading comprehension:
- Passages in English drawn from history, society, literature, science, environment, abstract topics, mythology, technology and culture, with questions on the main idea, supporting idea, application, logical structure and style of the passage.
- 5. Mental reasoning:
- Analogy - identifying the relationship between two items and applying it to another pair; series completion - identifying the pattern in a sequence of numbers and predicting the next term; coding and decoding; and ranking and arrangement problems.
- 6. Scope:
- The topics listed in the CEN are illustrative and not necessarily exhaustive.
- 7. CBAT reference:
- Information on the CBAT is available on the RDSO website - rdso.indianrailways.gov.in, under Verticals, Traffic and Psychology, Psychology-Candidate's Corner.
Selection Process
- 1. Stages:
- Single-stage Computer Based Test (CBT), then Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), then Document Verification (DV), then Medical Examination. Selection is strictly on merit through these stages.
- 2. Computer Based Test:
- 120 minutes, 100 objective multiple-choice questions of 1 mark each. The CBT is of screening nature and its standard conforms to the educational standard prescribed for the post.
- 3. Negative marking:
- One-third of the marks allotted to a question is deducted for each wrong answer in the CBT. There is no negative marking in the CBAT.
- 4. Minimum qualifying marks in CBT:
- UR 40 per cent, EWS 40 per cent, OBC-NCL 30 per cent, SC 30 per cent, ST 25 per cent. The same percentages apply to Ex-Servicemen according to their community. These may be relaxed by 2 marks for PwBD candidates where there is a shortage of PwBD candidates against vacancies reserved for them.
- 5. Normalisation:
- Marks are normalised whenever the CBT is conducted in multiple sessions or shifts for the same syllabus, and shortlisting for the various stages is based on the normalised marks.
- 6. Shortlisting for CBAT:
- Candidates equal to 8 times the number of vacancies, RRB-wise, are shortlisted on the merit of the single-stage CBT, taken from each of the communities UR, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and EWS including Ex-Servicemen. The number may increase or decrease as required by the Railway Administration.
- 7. Computer Based Aptitude Test:
- Questions and answer options are only in English and Hindi. A candidate must secure a minimum T-Score of 42 in each of the test batteries to qualify, and must qualify in every test battery to be considered for the post of Section Controller. This applies to all candidates irrespective of community or category, including SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, Ex-Servicemen and PwBD, and no relaxation in the minimum T-Score is permissible.
- 8. Vision certificate at CBAT:
- Candidates shortlisted for the CBAT must produce the vision certificate in the prescribed format at Annexure VI, or Annexure VI-A for Ex-Servicemen, in original at the CBAT, failing which they are not permitted to appear.
- 9. Merit list:
- The merit list is drawn only from candidates who qualify the CBAT, with 70 per cent weightage for the CBT marks and 30 per cent weightage for the CBAT marks.
- 10. Shortlisting for Document Verification and Medical Examination:
- Done RRB-wise at the rate of 1:1 of the vacancies for that RRB, on the combined merit of CBT and CBAT, and as per the candidate's railway options.
- 11. Tie-breaking:
- Where two or more candidates secure the same marks, the older candidate is placed higher in merit; if the ages are also the same, the alphabetical order (A to Z) of the given name, not the surname, breaks the tie.
- 12. Community carried forward:
- Candidates shortlisted for the CBAT while availing the reservation benefits of OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS or Ex-Servicemen continue to be considered only against that category at all subsequent stages.
- 13. Appointment:
- Appointment is subject to passing the requisite medical examination conducted by the Railway Administration, final verification of educational and community certificates, and verification of antecedents and character. RRBs only recommend the names of empanelled candidates; the offer of appointment is issued by the respective Railway Administration and selection confers no right to appointment.
- 14. Additional stages:
- RRBs reserve the right to introduce additional CBTs, CBAT or additional document verification without assigning any reason, and to reschedule any CBT, CBAT or DV on account of technical constraints or unavoidable circumstances.
Admit Card Details
- 1. Download:
- City and date intimations, e-call letters and travel authority, where applicable, are downloaded only from the official websites of the concerned RRB. No call letter is sent by post.
- 2. Timing:
- The e-call letter for the CBT and CBAT, and for a scribe where applicable, can be downloaded about 4 days before the examination; intimation of the examination city is given about 10 days in advance.
- 3. Notification of release:
- Schedules and the download link are published on the RRB websites, and eligible candidates are also informed by SMS and registered email; candidates should check the websites regularly because SMS or email delivery may fail.
- 4. Not proof of eligibility:
- Issue of an e-call letter does not imply that candidature has been finally accepted. The centre, date and shift shown in the e-call letter are final and no representation for change is entertained.
- 5. Free travel pass:
- SC and ST candidates who indicate 'Yes' in the online application and upload a valid caste certificate receive a free Sleeper Class railway pass as part of the e-call letter for the CBT, CBAT and Document Verification. The original community certificate is checked at reservation and by ticket-checking staff, and misuse leads to rejection of candidature and debarment.
Reservation Details
- 1. Vertical reservation:
- Provided for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer) and Economically Weaker Sections, wherever applicable and admissible, as shown in the vacancy table. Only communities recognised by the Government of India as SC, ST, EWS and OBC-NCL are eligible.
- 2. Horizontal reservation:
- Provided for Ex-Servicemen and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities irrespective of their social community. The total vacancies shown in the vacancy table include the vacancies reserved for ExSM and PwBD.
- 3. Applying against UR vacancies:
- Candidates of any community may be considered against UR vacancies if they meet the UR parameters, but no age relaxation is allowed to SC, ST or OBC-NCL candidates doing so; the actual community must still be declared in the application.
- 4. OBC creamy layer:
- OBC candidates in the creamy layer are not entitled to OBC reservation. The certificate must specifically record that the candidate does not belong to the creamy layer as defined in the DoPT OM No. 36012/22/93-Estt.(SCT) dated 08.09.1993 as modified by OM No. 36033/1/2013-Estt.(Res.) dated 13.09.2017. OBCs in a State list but not in the central list cannot claim reservation.
- 5. EWS criteria:
- Candidates not covered by SC, ST or OBC (central list) reservation whose family gross annual income is below Rs. 8 lakh for financial year 2025-26 are identified as EWS. Income from all sources - salary, agriculture, business, profession - is counted. Candidates whose family owns 5 acres or more of agricultural land, a residential flat of 1000 sq ft or more, a residential plot of 100 sq yards or more in a notified municipality, or a residential plot of 200 sq yards or more elsewhere are excluded regardless of income; holdings in different places are clubbed. 'Family' means the candidate, his or her parents and siblings below 18, and his or her spouse and children below 18. OBC creamy layer candidates cannot claim EWS.
- 6. EWS certificate authorities:
- District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Collector, Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, First Class Stipendiary Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Taluka Magistrate, Executive Magistrate, Extra Assistant Commissioner; Chief Presidency Magistrate, Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate or Presidency Magistrate; a Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar; or the Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate or family normally resides.
- 7. Ex-Servicemen and PwBD without reserved vacancies:
- Ex-Servicemen and PwBD candidates may apply against regular vacancies of a post even where no vacancy is exclusively reserved for them - for PwBD, provided the post is suitable for the disability - and remain eligible for age relaxation and fee exemption.
- 8. Unfilled PwBD vacancies:
- Vacancies reserved for PwBD that cannot be filled for want of suitable candidates in that disability category are not filled and are treated as a shortfall for this notification.
- 9. Crucial date for status:
- The community or category status as on the closing date for online submission, 14.08.2026, is what counts; any later change in community status is not entertained. A fraudulent claim of SC, ST, OBC or EWS status leads to cancellation of candidature or appointment, permanent debarment from all RRB and RRC examinations and possible legal proceedings.
- 10. Bihar caste judgements:
- Candidates of the Lohar, Lohara or Lohra caste from or migrated from Bihar must produce a certificate issued after 01.04.2023 and valid on the closing date - Annexure I with back reference to Form-II of the Bihar Government for ST, or Annexure II with back reference to Form-VIIA for OBC-NCL. Candidates of the Pan, Panr, Sawasi or Tanti-Tantwa caste from or migrated from Bihar holding an ST or SC certificate issued before the Supreme Court judgement of 15.07.2024 must upload and produce at DV a fresh certificate issued on or after 01.09.2024; otherwise their candidature is treated as Unreserved.
Document Requirements
- 1. Uploaded with the online application:
- The candidate's signature in JPG or JPEG format, and, only for SC or ST candidates requesting a free train travel pass, the SC/ST certificate in PDF format.
- 2. Signature specification:
- Signed by the candidate only, with a black ink pen on white paper, in running handwriting and not in block, capital or disjointed letters. Scanned at a minimum of 100 DPI, JPG or JPEG only, file size between 30 KB and 49 KB, minimum 140 x 60 pixels, positioned centred within a scan box of 50 mm by 20 mm.
- 3. Grounds for rejection related to signature:
- A non-white background, non-black ink, block or capital letters, poor resolution, an incomplete or partially visible signature, an image other than the signature, a blank signature, a thumb impression in place of a signature, or the signature of a person other than the applicant. The signature must match those captured at the examinations, Document Verification, Medical Examination and appointment.
- 4. Signature - PwBD exception:
- Candidates with benchmark disabilities whose disability prevents signing may upload a scan of a fingerprint, in the order left thumb, right thumb, any finger of the hands, any toe of the feet.
- 5. SC/ST certificate specification:
- PDF format only, file size less than 400 KB, legible and clear, latest and valid as on the closing date of online application submission.
- 6. At Document Verification:
- All original documents together with two sets of self-attested photocopies. Scanned true-colour copies of the photo and signature must also be uploaded before the DV date through the portal https://oirms-ir.gov.in/rrbdv. All certificates must be in English or Hindi, or accompanied by a self-attested translation, and must be strictly in the formats prescribed in the CEN's annexures; certificates in any other format are not accepted.
- 7. Reservation and relaxation certificates:
- Candidates seeking reserved vacancies or age relaxation must produce the relevant original certificate from the competent authority in the prescribed format at Document Verification: Annexure I for SC and ST, Annexure II with the self-declaration at Annexure IIA for OBC-NCL, Annexure III for EWS, Annexure IV for EBC income, Annexure V for the minority fee waiver, Annexures VI, VI-A and VI-B for vision and LASIK declarations, Annexures VII and VII(A) for Ex-Servicemen, and Annexures VIII(A) to VIII(F) for disability and scribe. Otherwise the claim is not entertained and the candidature is considered under the General (UR) category if eligible.
- 8. OBC-NCL certificate validity:
- The OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate in the format at Annexure II must be issued on or after 01 April 2026 and not later than the closing date of the online application. The certificate number, date of issue and caste must be entered in the online application, and the caste must appear in the current central list of OBCs at http://www.ncbc.nic.in.
- 9. Absence at DV:
- Candidates absent at Document Verification forfeit their candidature, and no additional time is given to a candidate who does not produce original certificates on the date of verification.
Important Instructions
- 1. Eligibility as on closing date:
- Candidates must possess and fulfil all prescribed eligibility conditions as on the closing date of online submission, 14.08.2026. Candidates awaiting the final result of the prescribed educational qualification are not eligible to apply.
- 2. Official websites only:
- Candidates should visit only the official RRB websites and be careful of fake websites and job racketeers. A unified common RRB website is now available in addition to the individual board websites.
- 3. Contact details:
- Candidates must keep their own mobile number and a valid, active personal email ID active for the entire duration of the recruitment, as RRBs send communications by SMS and email. No request for change of mobile number or email address is entertained at any stage. Candidates should note and remember their registration number.
- 4. Banned items at the test centre:
- Electronic gadgets such as mobile phones, pagers, watches, earphones, Bluetooth-enabled devices, microphones, health bands and calculators, and books, pens, paper, pencils, erasers, pouches, scales, writing pads, belts, handbags, caps, purses, cameras, water bottles and packaged or open food are not allowed inside the test centre. Only the e-call letter may be carried in; pens are provided at the examination. Candidates are advised not to apply henna to hands or feet as it obstructs biometric capture. Cloakroom facilities may not be available.
- 5. Name and date of birth:
- Name, father's name, mother's name and date of birth must be entered as recorded in the SSC, SSLC, Matriculation or Class X certificate. A changed name must be shown separately along with the certificate name, the change must predate the application, and a Gazette notification or other legal document with a photo ID must be produced at the CBT or Document Verification.
- 6. Uniform signature:
- Signatures must be uniform and identical at all stages of the recruitment process and in running hand, not in block, capital or disjointed letters. Differing signatures at the CBT, CBAT, Document Verification or Medical Examination may result in cancellation of candidature.
- 7. Biometrics and post-examination analysis:
- Biometric details are recorded at every stage and any mismatch may lead to disqualification and legal action. RRBs conduct post-examination analysis including log analysis, photograph and biometric verification and CCTV review, and may carry out additional authentication and background checks.
- 8. Unfair means:
- Use of unfair means of any kind - forgery, impersonation, cheating, misconduct, use or attempted use of banned items, misrepresentation, suppression of facts, wrong information or a false document - leads to lifetime debarment from all RRB and RRC examinations, debarment from appointment in the Railways, dismissal if already appointed, and legal action under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act and Rules, 2024.
- 9. Scribe:
- Eligible candidates must provide their scribe details in the application portal between 27.08.2026 and 31.08.2026. Compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of examination is given to candidates permitted to use a scribe, and also, if desired, to eligible candidates who choose not to use one.
- 10. Interpretation:
- In the event of any dispute about interpretation, the English version of the notification and of any subsequent amendment, corrigendum or important notice published on the official RRB websites is treated as final.
- 11. Jurisdiction:
- Legal issues arising after provisional acceptance of the application and receipt of the CBT e-call letter fall within the jurisdiction of the Central Administrative Tribunal or High Court under which the chosen RRB is located; where candidature is rejected on account of rejection of the application, jurisdiction lies with the Central Administrative Tribunal, Mumbai, and the High Court for the State of Maharashtra.

- Multiple applications to different RRBs or to the same RRB for the same pay-level post lead to summary rejection of all applications and debarment from all future RRB and RRC examinations.
- 2. Live photo non-compliance:
- Failure to comply with the live-photo capture instructions at Para 17.5 leads to rejection of candidature at any stage.
- 3. Signature non-compliance:
- Failure to comply with the signature upload instructions at Para 17.7 leads to rejection of candidature at any stage.
- 4. Debarred list:
- A candidate whose name figures in the debarred list of any RRB or RRC is rejected.
- 5. Other irregularities:
- Any other irregularity found during application scrutiny, before or after issue of the CBT e-call letters, or during Document Verification.
- 6. False information:
- If at any stage of recruitment or afterwards it is found that information is false or incorrect, or that relevant information was suppressed, or that the eligibility criteria are not met, candidature is rejected forthwith; if already appointed, the candidate is removed from service and debarred for life from all RRB and RRC examinations.
- 7. Viewing rejections:
- Details of rejected applications and the reasons can be viewed by logging in on the concerned RRB website. The reasons are final and binding, no further correspondence is entertained, and no fee is refunded on account of rejection. SMS and email alerts are also sent; candidates are not intimated by post.

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, invite online applications through Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) No. 03/2026 for 119 posts of Section Controller in the Zonal Railways of Indian Railways. - 1. Minority definition:
- Minorities include Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Zoroastrians (Parsis), subject to any revision, deletion or inclusion received till 14.08.2026. Minority candidates claiming the fee waiver must furnish an affidavit of minority community declaration on non-judicial stamp paper in the format at Annexure V at Document Verification, failing which candidature is liable to be rejected.
- 2. EBC definition:
- Economically Backward Class candidates are those whose annual family income is less than Rs. 50,000. They must hold, on the date of application, a valid income certificate in the prescribed format, or a BPL card or other certificate issued by the Central Government under a recognised poverty alleviation programme, or an Izzat MST issued by the Railways. Any such document issued after the closing date of 14.08.2026 is not accepted, and the original must be produced at Document Verification. EBC, EWS and OBC are three distinct categories; an EBC candidate is entitled only to fee concession and not to job reservation.
- 3. Income certificate authorities for EBC:
- District Magistrate or any other Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar; a sitting Member of the Lok Sabha for persons of his or her own constituency; a sitting Member of the Rajya Sabha for persons of the district in which the member normally resides; or a Union Minister for any person anywhere in the country.
- 4. Refund route:
- Refunds, less bank charges, are credited only to the bank account seeded with the candidate's Aadhaar number. The Aadhaar number is validated during the application and the linked account is shown for confirmation; if no account is seeded, the candidate is redirected to the NPCI portal for real-time Aadhaar to bank account linking. A candidate without a bank account may give a family member's Aadhaar-seeded account.
- 5. No refund:
- No refund is made where the application is incomplete, not submitted or rejected, or where the Aadhaar-seeded bank account is found non-operational. If notified vacancies are cancelled, the fee is not refunded except to candidates who attended the CBT.
- 6. Applications without fee:
- Applications received without the prescribed fee are not considered and are summarily rejected, and no representation against such rejection is entertained.

How to Apply
- 1. Mode:

- 2. Create an Account:
- A candidate must first create an account using the link on the official RRB websites. A candidate who already created an account for a CEN notified in 2024, 2025 or 2026 must use the same login credentials. A valid personal mobile number and an active email ID are mandatory for the OTPs required during account creation. Details entered in the 'Create an Account' form, including the mobile number and email ID, cannot be changed at any stage.
- 3. Identity authentication:
- Candidates are strongly advised to authenticate their identity using DigiLocker or Aadhaar during account creation, or later through the 'Verify Aadhaar' facility before final submission. Applicants who verify through alternate photo IDs are subject to significantly stricter and more detailed scrutiny at every stage.
- 4. Choices to be made:
- Candidates must read the Post Parameter Table (Annexure-A) and the Vacancy Table (Annexure-B) before choosing the RRB and the order of zone preference within it, and must choose the medium of examination. The choice of RRB and the language option are final and cannot be changed.
- 5. Live photograph:
- No pre-existing photograph is uploaded. The application module captures a live photograph through a webcam or the front camera of a mobile phone. The candidate must sit or stand facing the camera at eye level with a neutral expression, in non-white and preferably dark clothing, with the whole face visible and centred in the frame, and without a cap, mask or spectacles. The photo may be previewed and retaken until the application is submitted. Photographing a printed or digital pre-existing photograph leads to summary rejection. If the live photo fails validation and matching, the candidate must download Annexure-IX, have it signed by a Gazetted Officer and upload it as proof of identity.
- 6. Payment:
- After submission the candidate is directed to the payment of the examination fee. The application is accepted only after confirmation of fee payment, which is confirmed by email and SMS.

Selection Process
- 1. Stages:
- Single-stage Computer Based Test (CBT), then Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), then Document Verification (DV), then Medical Examination. Selection is strictly on merit through these stages.
- 2. Computer Based Test:
- 120 minutes, 100 objective multiple-choice questions of 1 mark each. The CBT is of screening nature and its standard conforms to the educational standard prescribed for the post.
- 3. Negative marking:
- One-third of the marks allotted to a question is deducted for each wrong answer in the CBT. There is no negative marking in the CBAT.
- 4. Minimum qualifying marks in CBT:
- UR 40 per cent, EWS 40 per cent, OBC-NCL 30 per cent, SC 30 per cent, ST 25 per cent. The same percentages apply to Ex-Servicemen according to their community. These may be relaxed by 2 marks for PwBD candidates where there is a shortage of PwBD candidates against vacancies reserved for them.
- 5. Normalisation:
- Marks are normalised whenever the CBT is conducted in multiple sessions or shifts for the same syllabus, and shortlisting for the various stages is based on the normalised marks.
- 6. Shortlisting for CBAT:
- Candidates equal to 8 times the number of vacancies, RRB-wise, are shortlisted on the merit of the single-stage CBT, taken from each of the communities UR, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and EWS including Ex-Servicemen. The number may increase or decrease as required by the Railway Administration.
- 7. Computer Based Aptitude Test:
- Questions and answer options are only in English and Hindi. A candidate must secure a minimum T-Score of 42 in each of the test batteries to qualify, and must qualify in every test battery to be considered for the post of Section Controller. This applies to all candidates irrespective of community or category, including SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, Ex-Servicemen and PwBD, and no relaxation in the minimum T-Score is permissible.
- 8. Vision certificate at CBAT:
- Candidates shortlisted for the CBAT must produce the vision certificate in the prescribed format at Annexure VI, or Annexure VI-A for Ex-Servicemen, in original at the CBAT, failing which they are not permitted to appear.
- 9. Merit list:
- The merit list is drawn only from candidates who qualify the CBAT, with 70 per cent weightage for the CBT marks and 30 per cent weightage for the CBAT marks.
- 10. Shortlisting for Document Verification and Medical Examination:
- Done RRB-wise at the rate of 1:1 of the vacancies for that RRB, on the combined merit of CBT and CBAT, and as per the candidate's railway options.
- 11. Tie-breaking:
- Where two or more candidates secure the same marks, the older candidate is placed higher in merit; if the ages are also the same, the alphabetical order (A to Z) of the given name, not the surname, breaks the tie.
- 12. Community carried forward:
- Candidates shortlisted for the CBAT while availing the reservation benefits of OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS or Ex-Servicemen continue to be considered only against that category at all subsequent stages.
- 13. Appointment:
- Appointment is subject to passing the requisite medical examination conducted by the Railway Administration, final verification of educational and community certificates, and verification of antecedents and character. RRBs only recommend the names of empanelled candidates; the offer of appointment is issued by the respective Railway Administration and selection confers no right to appointment.
- 14. Additional stages:
- RRBs reserve the right to introduce additional CBTs, CBAT or additional document verification without assigning any reason, and to reschedule any CBT, CBAT or DV on account of technical constraints or unavoidable circumstances.
Admit Card Details
- 1. Download:
- City and date intimations, e-call letters and travel authority, where applicable, are downloaded only from the official websites of the concerned RRB. No call letter is sent by post.
- 2. Timing:
- The e-call letter for the CBT and CBAT, and for a scribe where applicable, can be downloaded about 4 days before the examination; intimation of the examination city is given about 10 days in advance.
- 3. Notification of release:
- Schedules and the download link are published on the RRB websites, and eligible candidates are also informed by SMS and registered email; candidates should check the websites regularly because SMS or email delivery may fail.
- 4. Not proof of eligibility:
- Issue of an e-call letter does not imply that candidature has been finally accepted. The centre, date and shift shown in the e-call letter are final and no representation for change is entertained.
- 5. Free travel pass:
- SC and ST candidates who indicate 'Yes' in the online application and upload a valid caste certificate receive a free Sleeper Class railway pass as part of the e-call letter for the CBT, CBAT and Document Verification. The original community certificate is checked at reservation and by ticket-checking staff, and misuse leads to rejection of candidature and debarment.
Reservation Details
- 1. Vertical reservation:
- Provided for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer) and Economically Weaker Sections, wherever applicable and admissible, as shown in the vacancy table. Only communities recognised by the Government of India as SC, ST, EWS and OBC-NCL are eligible.
- 2. Horizontal reservation:
- Provided for Ex-Servicemen and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities irrespective of their social community. The total vacancies shown in the vacancy table include the vacancies reserved for ExSM and PwBD.
- 3. Applying against UR vacancies:
- Candidates of any community may be considered against UR vacancies if they meet the UR parameters, but no age relaxation is allowed to SC, ST or OBC-NCL candidates doing so; the actual community must still be declared in the application.
- 4. OBC creamy layer:
- OBC candidates in the creamy layer are not entitled to OBC reservation. The certificate must specifically record that the candidate does not belong to the creamy layer as defined in the DoPT OM No. 36012/22/93-Estt.(SCT) dated 08.09.1993 as modified by OM No. 36033/1/2013-Estt.(Res.) dated 13.09.2017. OBCs in a State list but not in the central list cannot claim reservation.
- 5. EWS criteria:
- Candidates not covered by SC, ST or OBC (central list) reservation whose family gross annual income is below Rs. 8 lakh for financial year 2025-26 are identified as EWS. Income from all sources - salary, agriculture, business, profession - is counted. Candidates whose family owns 5 acres or more of agricultural land, a residential flat of 1000 sq ft or more, a residential plot of 100 sq yards or more in a notified municipality, or a residential plot of 200 sq yards or more elsewhere are excluded regardless of income; holdings in different places are clubbed. 'Family' means the candidate, his or her parents and siblings below 18, and his or her spouse and children below 18. OBC creamy layer candidates cannot claim EWS.
- 6. EWS certificate authorities:
- District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Collector, Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, First Class Stipendiary Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Taluka Magistrate, Executive Magistrate, Extra Assistant Commissioner; Chief Presidency Magistrate, Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate or Presidency Magistrate; a Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar; or the Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate or family normally resides.
- 7. Ex-Servicemen and PwBD without reserved vacancies:
- Ex-Servicemen and PwBD candidates may apply against regular vacancies of a post even where no vacancy is exclusively reserved for them - for PwBD, provided the post is suitable for the disability - and remain eligible for age relaxation and fee exemption.
- 8. Unfilled PwBD vacancies:
- Vacancies reserved for PwBD that cannot be filled for want of suitable candidates in that disability category are not filled and are treated as a shortfall for this notification.
- 9. Crucial date for status:
- The community or category status as on the closing date for online submission, 14.08.2026, is what counts; any later change in community status is not entertained. A fraudulent claim of SC, ST, OBC or EWS status leads to cancellation of candidature or appointment, permanent debarment from all RRB and RRC examinations and possible legal proceedings.
- 10. Bihar caste judgements:
- Candidates of the Lohar, Lohara or Lohra caste from or migrated from Bihar must produce a certificate issued after 01.04.2023 and valid on the closing date - Annexure I with back reference to Form-II of the Bihar Government for ST, or Annexure II with back reference to Form-VIIA for OBC-NCL. Candidates of the Pan, Panr, Sawasi or Tanti-Tantwa caste from or migrated from Bihar holding an ST or SC certificate issued before the Supreme Court judgement of 15.07.2024 must upload and produce at DV a fresh certificate issued on or after 01.09.2024; otherwise their candidature is treated as Unreserved.
Document Requirements
- 1. Uploaded with the online application:
- The candidate's signature in JPG or JPEG format, and, only for SC or ST candidates requesting a free train travel pass, the SC/ST certificate in PDF format.
- 2. Signature specification:
- Signed by the candidate only, with a black ink pen on white paper, in running handwriting and not in block, capital or disjointed letters. Scanned at a minimum of 100 DPI, JPG or JPEG only, file size between 30 KB and 49 KB, minimum 140 x 60 pixels, positioned centred within a scan box of 50 mm by 20 mm.
- 3. Grounds for rejection related to signature:
- A non-white background, non-black ink, block or capital letters, poor resolution, an incomplete or partially visible signature, an image other than the signature, a blank signature, a thumb impression in place of a signature, or the signature of a person other than the applicant. The signature must match those captured at the examinations, Document Verification, Medical Examination and appointment.
- 4. Signature - PwBD exception:
- Candidates with benchmark disabilities whose disability prevents signing may upload a scan of a fingerprint, in the order left thumb, right thumb, any finger of the hands, any toe of the feet.
- 5. SC/ST certificate specification:
- PDF format only, file size less than 400 KB, legible and clear, latest and valid as on the closing date of online application submission.
- 6. At Document Verification:
- All original documents together with two sets of self-attested photocopies. Scanned true-colour copies of the photo and signature must also be uploaded before the DV date through the portal https://oirms-ir.gov.in/rrbdv. All certificates must be in English or Hindi, or accompanied by a self-attested translation, and must be strictly in the formats prescribed in the CEN's annexures; certificates in any other format are not accepted.
- 7. Reservation and relaxation certificates:
- Candidates seeking reserved vacancies or age relaxation must produce the relevant original certificate from the competent authority in the prescribed format at Document Verification: Annexure I for SC and ST, Annexure II with the self-declaration at Annexure IIA for OBC-NCL, Annexure III for EWS, Annexure IV for EBC income, Annexure V for the minority fee waiver, Annexures VI, VI-A and VI-B for vision and LASIK declarations, Annexures VII and VII(A) for Ex-Servicemen, and Annexures VIII(A) to VIII(F) for disability and scribe. - 8. OBC-NCL certificate validity:
- The OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate in the format at Annexure II must be issued on or after 01 April 2026 and not later than the closing date of the online application. The certificate number, date of issue and caste must be entered in the online application, and the caste must appear in the current central list of OBCs at http://www.ncbc.nic.in.
- 9. Absence at DV:
- Candidates absent at Document Verification forfeit their candidature, and no additional time is given to a candidate who does not produce original certificates on the date of verification.
Important Instructions
- 1. Eligibility as on closing date:
- Candidates must possess and fulfil all prescribed eligibility conditions as on the closing date of online submission, 14.08.2026. Candidates awaiting the final result of the prescribed educational qualification are not eligible to apply.

- Electronic gadgets such as mobile phones, pagers, watches, earphones, Bluetooth-enabled devices, microphones, health bands and calculators, and books, pens, paper, pencils, erasers, pouches, scales, writing pads, belts, handbags, caps, purses, cameras, water bottles and packaged or open food are not allowed inside the test centre. Only the e-call letter may be carried in; pens are provided at the examination. Candidates are advised not to apply henna to hands or feet as it obstructs biometric capture. - 5. Name and date of birth:
- Name, father's name, mother's name and date of birth must be entered as recorded in the SSC, SSLC, Matriculation or Class X certificate. A changed name must be shown separately along with the certificate name, the change must predate the application, and a Gazette notification or other legal document with a photo ID must be produced at the CBT or Document Verification.
- 6. Uniform signature:
- Signatures must be uniform and identical at all stages of the recruitment process and in running hand, not in block, capital or disjointed letters. Differing signatures at the CBT, CBAT, Document Verification or Medical Examination may result in cancellation of candidature.
- 7. Biometrics and post-examination analysis:
- Biometric details are recorded at every stage and any mismatch may lead to disqualification and legal action. RRBs conduct post-examination analysis including log analysis, photograph and biometric verification and CCTV review, and may carry out additional authentication and background checks.

- Use of unfair means of any kind - forgery, impersonation, cheating, misconduct, use or attempted use of banned items, misrepresentation, suppression of facts, wrong information or a false document - leads to lifetime debarment from all RRB and RRC examinations, debarment from appointment in the Railways, dismissal if already appointed, and legal action under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act and Rules, 2024.
- 9. Scribe:
- Eligible candidates must provide their scribe details in the application portal between 27.08.2026 and 31.08.2026. Compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of examination is given to candidates permitted to use a scribe, and also, if desired, to eligible candidates who choose not to use one.
- 10. Interpretation:
- In the event of any dispute about interpretation, the English version of the notification and of any subsequent amendment, corrigendum or important notice published on the official RRB websites is treated as final.
- 11. Jurisdiction:
