- 1. All candidates except those listed below:
- Rs. 500. Of this, Rs. 400 is refunded in due course, less applicable bank charges, on appearing in the Computer Based Test.
- 2. SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, female, transgender, minority and Economically Backward Class (EBC) candidates:
- Rs. 250. This amount is refunded in due course, less applicable bank charges, on appearing in the Computer Based Test.
- 3. Modification fee:
- Rs. 250 per modification, non-refundable, payable by all candidates irrespective of community or category during the modification window from 05.03.2026 to 14.03.2026.
- 4. Fee difference on modification:
- A candidate changing community from SC or ST to UR, OBC or EWS, or switching from ExSM, female, transgender or PwBD to a non-concessional category, must pay the Rs. 250 difference in examination fee in addition to the modification fee.
Payment Methods
- 1. Online only:
- Fee may be paid online only, through internet banking, debit or credit card, or UPI. There is no other mode of payment. All applicable service charges are borne by the candidate.
- 2. Applications without fee:
- Applications received without the prescribed fee will not be considered and will be summarily rejected.

- 1. Minorities:
- Minorities for the purpose of fee concession are Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Zoroastrians (Parsis). A minority candidate claiming the concession must furnish an affidavit as per Annexure-IV on non-judicial stamp paper at Document Verification.
- 2. Economically Backward Class (EBC):
- EBC candidates are those whose annual family income is less than Rs. 50,000. They must hold, on the date of application, a valid income certificate in the format at Annexure-III A, or a BPL card, or another certificate issued by the Central Government under a recognised poverty alleviation programme, or an Izzat MST issued by the Railways, and must produce it in original at Document Verification. A document issued after 02.03.2026 will not be accepted. EBC, EWS and OBC are three distinct categories, and EBC entitles a candidate only to a fee concession, not to job reservation.
- 3. Refund of fee:
- Only candidates who appear in the CBT get a refund. The refund is credited to the bank account seeded with the candidate's Aadhaar number, which is validated during the application process; if no account is seeded, the candidate is redirected to the NPCI portal to link one. A candidate without a bank account may provide a family member's Aadhaar-seeded account.
- 4. No refund:
- No refund is made where the application is incomplete, not submitted or rejected, or where the Aadhaar-seeded bank account is found to be non-operational.

How to Apply
- 1. Mode:
- Online only, through the link provided on the official RRB websites listed at Para 24.0(A) of the CEN. Applications are submitted to the chosen Railway Recruitment Board by 23:59 hrs on 02.03.2026.
- 2. Step 1 - Create an Account:
- Create an account for this CEN using the link on the official RRB websites. A candidate who already created an account for the CENs notified in 2024 or 2025 must use the same credentials. A valid personal mobile number and an active email ID are mandatory for the OTPs. Nothing entered in the 'Create an Account' form, including the mobile number and email ID, can be changed later.
- 3. Step 2 - Identity authentication:
- Candidates are strongly advised to authenticate their identity using DigiLocker or Aadhaar during account creation, or later through the 'Verify Aadhaar' facility before final submission. Candidates who verify with alternate photo IDs are subjected to significantly stricter scrutiny at every stage.
- 4. Step 3 - Choose RRB and post preferences:
- A candidate may choose only one RRB or Railway zone and indicate preferences for the posts notified in that zone for which he or she is eligible, together with the order of zone or Railway unit preference. Options once exercised are final. Where no option is given for a post, it is treated as unwillingness for that post.
- 5. Step 4 - Live photograph:
- No pre-existing photograph is uploaded. The application module captures a live photograph through a web camera or the front camera of a mobile phone. The candidate must dress in non-white, preferably dark clothing, position the camera at eye level, look straight ahead with a neutral expression, keep the whole face within the frame, and wear no cap, mask or spectacles. Photographing a printed or digital pre-existing photograph leads to summary rejection.
- 6. Step 5 - Upload signature:
- Upload a scanned signature in running handwriting, written by the candidate with a black ink pen on white paper. JPG or JPEG only, 30 KB to 49 KB, minimum 140 x 60 pixels, scanned at a minimum of 100 DPI, positioned within a scan box of 35 mm by 20 mm. Block, capital or disjointed letters, thumb impressions and non-white backgrounds are grounds for rejection.
- 7. Step 6 - SC/ST certificate for free travel:
- Candidates of SC or ST who want the free railway travel pass must upload a scanned copy of the SC or ST certificate in PDF format, under 400 KB, legible and valid as on the closing date.
- 8. Step 7 - Pay the fee:
- After submitting the application the candidate is directed to the payment options and completes the payment. Acceptance of the application happens only on confirmation of payment, which is notified by email and SMS.
- 9. Modification:
- Details other than those in the 'Create an Account' form and the chosen RRB may be modified any number of times between 05.03.2026 and 14.03.2026 on payment of Rs. 250 per occasion. After 14.03.2026 no representation for modification is entertained.
- 10. Scribe:
- Candidates eligible for a scribe must opt for one in the online application, arrange the scribe themselves at their own cost, ensure the scribe registers at rrbapply.gov.in to obtain a One-Time Registration number, and log in during the five-day window immediately after the modification window closes (15.03.2026 to 19.03.2026) to enter the scribe's OTR number and confirm the scribe by OTP.
- 11. Common Services Centres:
- Candidates may use the Common Services Centres of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to submit the online application and pay the fee. The centre list is at www.csc.gov.in and the nearest centre can be found at https://findmycsc.nic.in/csc/.
Exam Pattern
- 1. Mode:
- Single-stage Computer Based Test (CBT).
- 2. Duration:
- 90 minutes; 120 minutes for candidates eligible to use a scribe.
- 3. Total questions:
- 100 objective multiple-choice questions of 1 mark each.
- 4. Section-wise distribution (indicative):
- General Science 25 questions, Mathematics 25, General Intelligence and Reasoning 30, General Awareness and Current Affairs 20. The distribution is indicative and the actual paper may vary.
- 5. Negative marking:
- One third of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer.
- 6. Minimum qualifying marks:
- UR 40 per cent, EWS 40 per cent, OBC-Non Creamy Layer 30 per cent, SC 30 per cent, ST 30 per cent. These may be relaxed by 2 marks for PwBD candidates where there is a shortage of PwBD candidates against vacancies reserved for them.
- 7. Medium of examination:
- English, Hindi and 13 regional languages: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Questions are displayed in the language opted for and in English.
- 8. Compensatory time:
- 20 minutes per hour of examination for candidates permitted to use a scribe, and for eligible candidates who choose not to use one.
- 9. Mock tests:
- Mock and practice tests are made available on the RRB and RRC official websites.
Syllabus Details
- 1. Mathematics:
- Number system, BODMAS, decimals, fractions, LCM, HCF, ratio and proportion, percentages, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, algebra, geometry and trigonometry, elementary statistics, square root, age calculations, calendar and clock, pipes and cistern.
- 2. General Intelligence and Reasoning:
- Analogies, alphabetical and number series, coding and decoding, mathematical operations, relationships, syllogism, jumbling, Venn diagrams, data interpretation and sufficiency, conclusions and decision making, similarities and differences, analytical reasoning, classification, directions, statement-arguments and assumptions.
- 3. General Science:
- Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences at the 10th standard (CBSE) level.
- 4. General Awareness:
- Current affairs in science and technology, sports, culture, personalities, economics, politics and any other subject of importance.
- 5. Scope:
- The topics listed in the CEN are illustrative and not necessarily exhaustive.
Selection Process
- 1. Stages:
- The recruitment process comprises a Computer Based Test (CBT), a Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Document Verification (DV) and a Medical Examination (ME).
- 2. Single-stage CBT:
- The examination is a single-stage Computer Based Test. The Railway administration reserves the right to conduct the CBT in either single or multi-stage mode; where a second-stage CBT is held, the first stage may be treated as a qualifying test for shortlisting.
- 3. Shortlisting for PET:
- Railway-wise and RRC-wise shortlisting for the PET is done at three times the community-wise vacancies, based on merit in the CBT. The ratio may be increased or decreased as required.
- 4. Physical Efficiency Test:
- Passing the PET is mandatory and qualifying in nature. It has two stages: the weight-carrying test is taken first and a candidate who fails it is eliminated at that stage; only those who pass go on to the running test after a recovery gap.
- 5. Shortlisting for DV and Medical Examination:
- Done Railway-wise and RRC-wise at the ratio of 1:1 of the vacancies, based on merit in the CBT and qualification in the PET. More candidates than the number of vacancies may be called for the PET and subsequent stages to allow for absentees.
- 6. Tie-breaking:
- Where two or more candidates secure the same marks, the older candidate is placed higher; if the ages are also the same, the alphabetical order (A to Z) of the given name, not the surname, decides.
- 7. Normalisation of marks:
- Shortlisting for the various stages is based on normalised marks whenever the CBT is conducted in multiple sessions for the same syllabus.
- 8. NCVT weightage for Act Apprentices:
- For Course Completed Act Apprentices, one third of the marks used to prepare the final merit list after the CBT is based on the marks obtained in the NCVT examination. If the combined score is lower than the CBT score alone, the higher of the two is used. A candidate who fails to enter the NCVT marks is awarded zero against that weightage.
- 9. Empanelment:
- Posts and Railway units are allotted on merit, post preference, medical fitness and vacancy position on the date of panel preparation. Once a category, post or Railway is allotted, the candidate forfeits the right to be considered for any other. RRBs and RRCs only recommend names; the appointment is offered by the Railway administration concerned.
- 10. Right to appointment:
- Selection by an RRB or RRC confers no right of appointment. Appointment is subject to passing the medical fitness test, final verification of educational and community certificates and verification of character and antecedents.
Admit Card Details
- 1. Download:
- E-call letters for the CBT are downloaded from the RRB websites listed at Para 24.0(A) about four days before the date of the CBT. The examination city is intimated about ten days in advance. No call letter is sent by post.
- 2. Notification of schedule:
- Schedules and download links are published on the RRB and RRC websites; eligible candidates are also informed by SMS and email, but candidates should visit the websites regularly because SMS or email delivery can fail.
- 3. What to carry:
- The e-call letter and a valid original photo ID such as a voter ID card, Aadhaar card or printout of e-Aadhaar, driving licence, PAN card, passport, an employer-issued identity card for government employees, or a school, college or university photo ID for those still studying. A colour passport photograph not older than two months from the date of the CBT, PET, DV or ME must also be brought.
- 4. Self-declaration:
- Candidates must write the self-declaration paragraph, sign it and affix the left thumb impression on the e-call letter at the CBT venue in the presence of the invigilator, and hand it over before the examination ends. Writing the declaration in advance or signing in capital letters leads to rejection.
- 5. Free travel authority:
- For eligible SC and ST candidates who opt for free train travel, the e-call letter itself carries the free sleeper class travel authority. The original community certificate and a prescribed proof of identity must be carried during the journey.
- 6. No change of centre:
- The centre, date and shift shown on the e-call letter are final; no request for change of examination centre, date or shift is entertained under any circumstance.
- 7. Scribe call letter:
- A separate e-call letter is issued to the scribe, who must carry the original valid ID proof used at registration.
Reservation Details
- 1. Vertical reservation:
- Reservation is provided for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer) and Economically Weaker Sections wherever applicable and admissible, as communicated by the indenting Railways and production units. All candidates, irrespective of community, are considered against unreserved vacancies subject to meeting the UR eligibility conditions.
- 2. Horizontal reservation:
- Horizontal reservation is provided for Ex-Servicemen, Course Completed Act Apprentices trained in Railway establishments and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, irrespective of community. These vacancies are not separate but are included within the total vacancies.
- 3. Backlog PwBD vacancies:
- Where PwBD vacancies are shown separately as backlog vacancies without any indication of community, they are backlog vacancies from the past and are not included in the regular community vacancies shown in the CEN.
- 4. Unfilled PwBD vacancies:
- Regular PwBD vacancies that cannot be filled for want of suitable candidates are carried forward as backlog to the next recruitment cycle. Backlog PwBD vacancies, if not filled by candidates of the specified disability, may be filled by candidates of other disabilities for which the post is suitable, and failing that by non-PwBD candidates in order of merit.
- 5. Applying without earmarked vacancies:
- ExSM, CCAA and PwBD candidates may apply against regular vacancies of posts that carry no separately earmarked vacancies for them, and remain eligible for the applicable age relaxation and fee exemption; for PwBD this is subject to the post having been identified as suitable for that disability.
- 6. OBC creamy layer:
- OBC candidates in the creamy layer are not entitled to OBC reservation and may be considered as unreserved candidates. Castes in a State OBC list but not in the central list at ncbc.nic.in cannot claim reservation.
- 7. EWS criterion:
- Candidates not covered by SC, ST or OBC-NCL reservation whose family gross annual income is below Rs. 8 lakh for financial year 2024-25 qualify as EWS, subject to the asset exclusions of 5 acres or more of agricultural land, a residential flat of 1,000 sq. ft. or more, a residential plot of 100 sq. yards or more in a notified municipality, or 200 sq. yards or more elsewhere.
- 8. Crucial date:
- The crucial date for claiming SC, ST, OBC, EWS or EBC status, or any other benefit such as fee concession, reservation or age relaxation, is the closing date for submission of online applications, 02.03.2026.
- 9. Change of community status:
- The community or category declared in the online application determines eligibility for reservation; any subsequent change in community status is not recognised for this recruitment.
- 10. Fraudulent claims:
- A fraudulent claim of SC, ST, OBC(NCL), EWS, PwBD, ExSM or CCAA status, or misuse of any benefit, leads to cancellation of candidature or appointment, permanent debarment from all RRB and RRC examinations and possible legal proceedings.
Document Requirements
- 1. To be uploaded with the online application:
- The candidate's signature in JPG or JPEG format as specified at Para 16.5.1, and, for candidates requesting the free train travel pass, the SC or ST certificate in PDF format.
- 2. At Document Verification - general:
- All original documents together with two sets of self-attested photocopies. Candidates are advised to upload true-colour scans of their photograph and signature before the DV date through the portal https://oirms-ir.gov.in/rrbdv. All certificates must be in English or Hindi; otherwise a self-attested translation must be produced. Certificates must be strictly in the prescribed formats.
- 3. SC and ST candidates:
- Caste certificate in the format at Annexure-I.
- 4. OBC-NCL candidates:
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate in the format at Annexure-II, issued on or after 01 April 2025 and not later than the closing date, plus the self-declaration at Annexure-II A stating that the candidate does not belong to the creamy layer on the closing date.
- 5. EWS candidates:
- Income and Asset Certificate for financial year 2024-25 in the format at Annexure-III, issued by a competent authority, valid as on the closing date.
- 6. EBC candidates:
- Income certificate in the format at Annexure-III A, or a BPL card, or a certificate issued by the Central Government under a recognised poverty alleviation programme, or an Izzat MST, in original.
- 7. Minority candidates claiming fee waiver:
- Affidavit for minority community declaration on non-judicial stamp paper, as per Annexure-IV.
- 8. PwBD candidates:
- Certificate of Disability in Form V (Annexure-V(A)) or Form VI for multiple disabilities (Annexure-V(B)) under rule 18(1) of the Gazette notification dated 16 October 2024, together with the Unique Disability Identity (UDID). Candidates using a scribe additionally submit the undertakings and certificates at Annexure-V(C) to V(F) as applicable.
- 9. Ex-Servicemen:
- Declaration at Annexure-VI, and, for serving defence personnel, the employment certificate with probable date of discharge at Annexure-VI(A), valid as on the closing date.
- 10. Candidates opting for posts with Medical Standard A-2 or A-3:
- Self-declaration at Annexure-VII regarding Lasik or other corrective eye surgery.
- 11. Course Completed Act Apprentices:
- National Apprenticeship Certificate issued by NCVT, failing which the CCAA reservation is not allowed.
- 12. Serving government or PSU employees:
- No Objection Certificate from the present employer on the date of Document Verification.
- 13. Educational certificates:
- Provisional or regular certificates bearing the date of issue; where the date of issue is after the closing date, consolidated or semester-wise mark sheets with the date of declaration of result, or a certificate from the Board, University or Institute stating the date of declaration of result.
- 14. Change of name:
- Where the name differs from the SSC, SSLC, Matriculation or 10th class certificate, a Gazette notification or other legal document with the changed name, together with a valid photo ID, at the CBT or Document Verification.
Important Instructions
- 1. Aadhaar verification advised:
- Candidates are advised to verify their primary details using Aadhaar during online application to avoid inconvenience and delays due to detailed scrutiny for non-Aadhaar verified applications.
- 2. Aadhaar must match 10th certificate:
- For successful Aadhaar verification, the Name and Date of Birth in Aadhaar shall match 100% with the Full Name and Date of Birth on the 10th class pass certificate.
- 3. Update Aadhaar photo and biometrics:
- Aadhaar should be updated with the latest photograph and latest biometrics (fingerprint and iris) before filling the online application.
- 4. Indicative nature of this notice:

Training Details
- 1. Training:
- Selected candidates have to undergo training wherever prescribed. Only a stipend, as applicable, is paid during the training period.
Bond or Service Agreement
- 1. Security or indemnity bond:
- Selected candidates have to execute a security and/or indemnity bond wherever necessary at the time of joining the Railways.
Disqualification Criteria
- 1. Multiple applications:
- Multiple applications to different RRBs or to the same RRB lead to summary rejection of all of them and debarment from all future RRB and RRC examinations.
- 2. Photograph:
- Non-compliance with the live photo capture instructions at Para 16.4, or submission of a picture of a pre-existing printed or digital photograph, leads to rejection at any stage.
- 3. Signature:
- Non-compliance with the signature instructions at Para 16.5, including a non-white background, non-black ink, block or capital letters, poor resolution, an incomplete signature, a thumb impression in place of a signature or the signature of another person, leads to rejection at any stage.
- 4. Debarred candidates:
- A candidate whose name appears in the debarred list of any RRB or RRC will be rejected.
- 5. Unfair means:
- Forgery, impersonation, cheating, misconduct, use or attempted use of banned items, misrepresentation or suppression of facts, wrong information or a false document leads to lifetime debarment from all RRB and RRC examinations, debarment from Railway appointment, dismissal if already appointed, and legal action under The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, effective from 21.06.2024.
- 6. Electronic devices:
- Possession of a mobile phone, Bluetooth device or any other means of wireless communication, whether working or switched off, leads to immediate cancellation of candidature and debarment.
- 7. Scribe misuse:
- Unauthorised use of a scribe or of compensatory time leads to disqualification and, if already appointed, removal from service without notice. A scribe found independently answering questions terminates the candidate's session and cancels the candidature.
- 8. Absence at Document Verification:
- The candidature of a candidate absent at Document Verification is cancelled, as is that of a candidate who does not produce original certificates on the date of verification.
- 9. False information:
- False information or suppression of material facts discovered at any stage, or afterwards, leads to immediate cancellation of candidature or appointment, removal from service and lifetime debarment from all RRB and RRC examinations.
- 10. No refund on rejection:
- No refund of examination fee is made on account of rejection of an application.

- Rs. 500. Of this, Rs. 400 is refunded in due course, less applicable bank charges, on appearing in the Computer Based Test.
- 2. SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, female, transgender, minority and Economically Backward Class (EBC) candidates:
- Rs. 250. This amount is refunded in due course, less applicable bank charges, on appearing in the Computer Based Test.
- 3. Modification fee:
- Rs. 250 per modification, non-refundable, payable by all candidates irrespective of community or category during the modification window from 05.03.2026 to 14.03.2026.
- 4. Fee difference on modification:
- A candidate changing community from SC or ST to UR, OBC or EWS, or switching from ExSM, female, transgender or PwBD to a non-concessional category, must pay the Rs. 250 difference in examination fee in addition to the modification fee.
Payment Methods
- 1. Online only:
- Fee may be paid online only, through internet banking, debit or credit card, or UPI. There is no other mode of payment. All applicable service charges are borne by the candidate.
- 2. Applications without fee:
- Applications received without the prescribed fee will not be considered and will be summarily rejected.

- 1. Minorities:
- Minorities for the purpose of fee concession are Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Zoroastrians (Parsis). A minority candidate claiming the concession must furnish an affidavit as per Annexure-IV on non-judicial stamp paper at Document Verification.
- 2. Economically Backward Class (EBC):
- EBC candidates are those whose annual family income is less than Rs. 50,000. They must hold, on the date of application, a valid income certificate in the format at Annexure-III A, or a BPL card, or another certificate issued by the Central Government under a recognised poverty alleviation programme, or an Izzat MST issued by the Railways, and must produce it in original at Document Verification. A document issued after 02.03.2026 will not be accepted. EBC, EWS and OBC are three distinct categories, and EBC entitles a candidate only to a fee concession, not to job reservation.
- 3. Refund of fee:
- Only candidates who appear in the CBT get a refund. The refund is credited to the bank account seeded with the candidate's Aadhaar number, which is validated during the application process; if no account is seeded, the candidate is redirected to the NPCI portal to link one. A candidate without a bank account may provide a family member's Aadhaar-seeded account.
- 4. No refund:
- No refund is made where the application is incomplete, not submitted or rejected, or where the Aadhaar-seeded bank account is found to be non-operational.

How to Apply
- 1. Mode:
- Online only, through the link provided on the official RRB websites listed at Para 24.0(A) of the CEN. Applications are submitted to the chosen Railway Recruitment Board by 23:59 hrs on 02.03.2026.
- 2. Step 1 - Create an Account:
- Create an account for this CEN using the link on the official RRB websites. A candidate who already created an account for the CENs notified in 2024 or 2025 must use the same credentials. A valid personal mobile number and an active email ID are mandatory for the OTPs. Nothing entered in the 'Create an Account' form, including the mobile number and email ID, can be changed later.
- 3. Step 2 - Identity authentication:
- Candidates are strongly advised to authenticate their identity using DigiLocker or Aadhaar during account creation, or later through the 'Verify Aadhaar' facility before final submission. Candidates who verify with alternate photo IDs are subjected to significantly stricter scrutiny at every stage.
- 4. Step 3 - Choose RRB and post preferences:
- A candidate may choose only one RRB or Railway zone and indicate preferences for the posts notified in that zone for which he or she is eligible, together with the order of zone or Railway unit preference. Options once exercised are final. Where no option is given for a post, it is treated as unwillingness for that post.
- 5. Step 4 - Live photograph:
- No pre-existing photograph is uploaded. The application module captures a live photograph through a web camera or the front camera of a mobile phone. The candidate must dress in non-white, preferably dark clothing, position the camera at eye level, look straight ahead with a neutral expression, keep the whole face within the frame, and wear no cap, mask or spectacles. Photographing a printed or digital pre-existing photograph leads to summary rejection.
- 6. Step 5 - Upload signature:
- Upload a scanned signature in running handwriting, written by the candidate with a black ink pen on white paper. JPG or JPEG only, 30 KB to 49 KB, minimum 140 x 60 pixels, scanned at a minimum of 100 DPI, positioned within a scan box of 35 mm by 20 mm. Block, capital or disjointed letters, thumb impressions and non-white backgrounds are grounds for rejection.
- 7. Step 6 - SC/ST certificate for free travel:
- Candidates of SC or ST who want the free railway travel pass must upload a scanned copy of the SC or ST certificate in PDF format, under 400 KB, legible and valid as on the closing date.
- 8. Step 7 - Pay the fee:
- After submitting the application the candidate is directed to the payment options and completes the payment. Acceptance of the application happens only on confirmation of payment, which is notified by email and SMS.
- 9. Modification:
- Details other than those in the 'Create an Account' form and the chosen RRB may be modified any number of times between 05.03.2026 and 14.03.2026 on payment of Rs. 250 per occasion. After 14.03.2026 no representation for modification is entertained.
- 10. Scribe:
- Candidates eligible for a scribe must opt for one in the online application, arrange the scribe themselves at their own cost, ensure the scribe registers at rrbapply.gov.in to obtain a One-Time Registration number, and log in during the five-day window immediately after the modification window closes (15.03.2026 to 19.03.2026) to enter the scribe's OTR number and confirm the scribe by OTP.
- 11. Common Services Centres:
- Candidates may use the Common Services Centres of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to submit the online application and pay the fee. The centre list is at www.csc.gov.in and the nearest centre can be found at https://findmycsc.nic.in/csc/.
Exam Pattern
- 1. Mode:
- Single-stage Computer Based Test (CBT).
- 2. Duration:
- 90 minutes; 120 minutes for candidates eligible to use a scribe.
- 3. Total questions:
- 100 objective multiple-choice questions of 1 mark each.
- 4. Section-wise distribution (indicative):
- General Science 25 questions, Mathematics 25, General Intelligence and Reasoning 30, General Awareness and Current Affairs 20. The distribution is indicative and the actual paper may vary.
- 5. Negative marking:
- One third of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer.
- 6. Minimum qualifying marks:
- UR 40 per cent, EWS 40 per cent, OBC-Non Creamy Layer 30 per cent, SC 30 per cent, ST 30 per cent. These may be relaxed by 2 marks for PwBD candidates where there is a shortage of PwBD candidates against vacancies reserved for them.
- 7. Medium of examination:
- English, Hindi and 13 regional languages: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Questions are displayed in the language opted for and in English.
- 8. Compensatory time:
- 20 minutes per hour of examination for candidates permitted to use a scribe, and for eligible candidates who choose not to use one.
- 9. Mock tests:
- Mock and practice tests are made available on the RRB and RRC official websites.
Syllabus Details
- 1. Mathematics:
- Number system, BODMAS, decimals, fractions, LCM, HCF, ratio and proportion, percentages, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, algebra, geometry and trigonometry, elementary statistics, square root, age calculations, calendar and clock, pipes and cistern.
- 2. General Intelligence and Reasoning:
- Analogies, alphabetical and number series, coding and decoding, mathematical operations, relationships, syllogism, jumbling, Venn diagrams, data interpretation and sufficiency, conclusions and decision making, similarities and differences, analytical reasoning, classification, directions, statement-arguments and assumptions.
- 3. General Science:
- Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences at the 10th standard (CBSE) level.
- 4. General Awareness:
- Current affairs in science and technology, sports, culture, personalities, economics, politics and any other subject of importance.
- 5. Scope:
- The topics listed in the CEN are illustrative and not necessarily exhaustive.
Selection Process
- 1. Stages:
- The recruitment process comprises a Computer Based Test (CBT), a Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Document Verification (DV) and a Medical Examination (ME).
- 2. Single-stage CBT:
- The examination is a single-stage Computer Based Test. The Railway administration reserves the right to conduct the CBT in either single or multi-stage mode; where a second-stage CBT is held, the first stage may be treated as a qualifying test for shortlisting.
- 3. Shortlisting for PET:
- Railway-wise and RRC-wise shortlisting for the PET is done at three times the community-wise vacancies, based on merit in the CBT. The ratio may be increased or decreased as required.
- 4. Physical Efficiency Test:
- Passing the PET is mandatory and qualifying in nature. It has two stages: the weight-carrying test is taken first and a candidate who fails it is eliminated at that stage; only those who pass go on to the running test after a recovery gap.
- 5. Shortlisting for DV and Medical Examination:
- Done Railway-wise and RRC-wise at the ratio of 1:1 of the vacancies, based on merit in the CBT and qualification in the PET. More candidates than the number of vacancies may be called for the PET and subsequent stages to allow for absentees.
- 6. Tie-breaking:
- Where two or more candidates secure the same marks, the older candidate is placed higher; if the ages are also the same, the alphabetical order (A to Z) of the given name, not the surname, decides.
- 7. Normalisation of marks:
- Shortlisting for the various stages is based on normalised marks whenever the CBT is conducted in multiple sessions for the same syllabus.
- 8. NCVT weightage for Act Apprentices:
- For Course Completed Act Apprentices, one third of the marks used to prepare the final merit list after the CBT is based on the marks obtained in the NCVT examination. If the combined score is lower than the CBT score alone, the higher of the two is used. A candidate who fails to enter the NCVT marks is awarded zero against that weightage.
- 9. Empanelment:
- Posts and Railway units are allotted on merit, post preference, medical fitness and vacancy position on the date of panel preparation. Once a category, post or Railway is allotted, the candidate forfeits the right to be considered for any other. RRBs and RRCs only recommend names; the appointment is offered by the Railway administration concerned.
- 10. Right to appointment:
- Selection by an RRB or RRC confers no right of appointment. Appointment is subject to passing the medical fitness test, final verification of educational and community certificates and verification of character and antecedents.
Admit Card Details
- 1. Download:
- E-call letters for the CBT are downloaded from the RRB websites listed at Para 24.0(A) about four days before the date of the CBT. The examination city is intimated about ten days in advance. No call letter is sent by post.
- 2. Notification of schedule:
- Schedules and download links are published on the RRB and RRC websites; eligible candidates are also informed by SMS and email, but candidates should visit the websites regularly because SMS or email delivery can fail.
- 3. What to carry:
- The e-call letter and a valid original photo ID such as a voter ID card, Aadhaar card or printout of e-Aadhaar, driving licence, PAN card, passport, an employer-issued identity card for government employees, or a school, college or university photo ID for those still studying. A colour passport photograph not older than two months from the date of the CBT, PET, DV or ME must also be brought.
- 4. Self-declaration:
- Candidates must write the self-declaration paragraph, sign it and affix the left thumb impression on the e-call letter at the CBT venue in the presence of the invigilator, and hand it over before the examination ends. Writing the declaration in advance or signing in capital letters leads to rejection.
- 5. Free travel authority:
- For eligible SC and ST candidates who opt for free train travel, the e-call letter itself carries the free sleeper class travel authority. The original community certificate and a prescribed proof of identity must be carried during the journey.
- 6. No change of centre:
- The centre, date and shift shown on the e-call letter are final; no request for change of examination centre, date or shift is entertained under any circumstance.
- 7. Scribe call letter:
- A separate e-call letter is issued to the scribe, who must carry the original valid ID proof used at registration.
Reservation Details
- 1. Vertical reservation:
- Reservation is provided for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer) and Economically Weaker Sections wherever applicable and admissible, as communicated by the indenting Railways and production units. All candidates, irrespective of community, are considered against unreserved vacancies subject to meeting the UR eligibility conditions.
- 2. Horizontal reservation:
- Horizontal reservation is provided for Ex-Servicemen, Course Completed Act Apprentices trained in Railway establishments and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, irrespective of community. These vacancies are not separate but are included within the total vacancies.
- 3. Backlog PwBD vacancies:
- Where PwBD vacancies are shown separately as backlog vacancies without any indication of community, they are backlog vacancies from the past and are not included in the regular community vacancies shown in the CEN.
- 4. Unfilled PwBD vacancies:
- Regular PwBD vacancies that cannot be filled for want of suitable candidates are carried forward as backlog to the next recruitment cycle. Backlog PwBD vacancies, if not filled by candidates of the specified disability, may be filled by candidates of other disabilities for which the post is suitable, and failing that by non-PwBD candidates in order of merit.
- 5. Applying without earmarked vacancies:
- ExSM, CCAA and PwBD candidates may apply against regular vacancies of posts that carry no separately earmarked vacancies for them, and remain eligible for the applicable age relaxation and fee exemption; for PwBD this is subject to the post having been identified as suitable for that disability.
- 6. OBC creamy layer:
- OBC candidates in the creamy layer are not entitled to OBC reservation and may be considered as unreserved candidates. Castes in a State OBC list but not in the central list at ncbc.nic.in cannot claim reservation.
- 7. EWS criterion:
- Candidates not covered by SC, ST or OBC-NCL reservation whose family gross annual income is below Rs. 8 lakh for financial year 2024-25 qualify as EWS, subject to the asset exclusions of 5 acres or more of agricultural land, a residential flat of 1,000 sq. ft. or more, a residential plot of 100 sq. yards or more in a notified municipality, or 200 sq. yards or more elsewhere.
- 8. Crucial date:
- The crucial date for claiming SC, ST, OBC, EWS or EBC status, or any other benefit such as fee concession, reservation or age relaxation, is the closing date for submission of online applications, 02.03.2026.
- 9. Change of community status:
- The community or category declared in the online application determines eligibility for reservation; any subsequent change in community status is not recognised for this recruitment.
- 10. Fraudulent claims:
- A fraudulent claim of SC, ST, OBC(NCL), EWS, PwBD, ExSM or CCAA status, or misuse of any benefit, leads to cancellation of candidature or appointment, permanent debarment from all RRB and RRC examinations and possible legal proceedings.
Document Requirements
- 1. To be uploaded with the online application:
- The candidate's signature in JPG or JPEG format as specified at Para 16.5.1, and, for candidates requesting the free train travel pass, the SC or ST certificate in PDF format.
- 2. At Document Verification - general:
- All original documents together with two sets of self-attested photocopies. Candidates are advised to upload true-colour scans of their photograph and signature before the DV date through the portal https://oirms-ir.gov.in/rrbdv. All certificates must be in English or Hindi; otherwise a self-attested translation must be produced. Certificates must be strictly in the prescribed formats.
- 3. SC and ST candidates:
- Caste certificate in the format at Annexure-I.
- 4. OBC-NCL candidates:
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate in the format at Annexure-II, issued on or after 01 April 2025 and not later than the closing date, plus the self-declaration at Annexure-II A stating that the candidate does not belong to the creamy layer on the closing date.
- 5. EWS candidates:
- Income and Asset Certificate for financial year 2024-25 in the format at Annexure-III, issued by a competent authority, valid as on the closing date.
- 6. EBC candidates:
- Income certificate in the format at Annexure-III A, or a BPL card, or a certificate issued by the Central Government under a recognised poverty alleviation programme, or an Izzat MST, in original.
- 7. Minority candidates claiming fee waiver:
- Affidavit for minority community declaration on non-judicial stamp paper, as per Annexure-IV.
- 8. PwBD candidates:
- Certificate of Disability in Form V (Annexure-V(A)) or Form VI for multiple disabilities (Annexure-V(B)) under rule 18(1) of the Gazette notification dated 16 October 2024, together with the Unique Disability Identity (UDID). Candidates using a scribe additionally submit the undertakings and certificates at Annexure-V(C) to V(F) as applicable.
- 9. Ex-Servicemen:
- Declaration at Annexure-VI, and, for serving defence personnel, the employment certificate with probable date of discharge at Annexure-VI(A), valid as on the closing date.
- 10. Candidates opting for posts with Medical Standard A-2 or A-3:
- Self-declaration at Annexure-VII regarding Lasik or other corrective eye surgery.
- 11. Course Completed Act Apprentices:
- National Apprenticeship Certificate issued by NCVT, failing which the CCAA reservation is not allowed.
- 12. Serving government or PSU employees:
- No Objection Certificate from the present employer on the date of Document Verification.
- 13. Educational certificates:
- Provisional or regular certificates bearing the date of issue; where the date of issue is after the closing date, consolidated or semester-wise mark sheets with the date of declaration of result, or a certificate from the Board, University or Institute stating the date of declaration of result.
- 14. Change of name:
- Where the name differs from the SSC, SSLC, Matriculation or 10th class certificate, a Gazette notification or other legal document with the changed name, together with a valid photo ID, at the CBT or Document Verification.
Important Instructions
- 1. Aadhaar verification advised:
- Candidates are advised to verify their primary details using Aadhaar during online application to avoid inconvenience and delays due to detailed scrutiny for non-Aadhaar verified applications.
- 2. Aadhaar must match 10th certificate:
- For successful Aadhaar verification, the Name and Date of Birth in Aadhaar shall match 100% with the Full Name and Date of Birth on the 10th class pass certificate.
- 3. Update Aadhaar photo and biometrics:
- Aadhaar should be updated with the latest photograph and latest biometrics (fingerprint and iris) before filling the online application.
- 4. Indicative nature of this notice:
- This notice is purely indicative; all terms, conditions, eligibility criteria, procedures and other requirements will be strictly as per the detailed CEN No. 09/2025 (including any corrigenda) to be published on the official RRB websites.
- 5. Warning against touts:
- Beware of touts who may misguide candidates with false promises of selection on illegal consideration. The recruitment process in the RRB exams is fully computerised and selection is based purely on the merit of candidates.
- 6. Updates:
- Candidates should regularly visit the official RRB websites for updates.
Training Details
- 1. Training:
- Selected candidates have to undergo training wherever prescribed. Only a stipend, as applicable, is paid during the training period.
Bond or Service Agreement
- 1. Security or indemnity bond:
- Selected candidates have to execute a security and/or indemnity bond wherever necessary at the time of joining the Railways.
Disqualification Criteria
- 1. Multiple applications:
- Multiple applications to different RRBs or to the same RRB lead to summary rejection of all of them and debarment from all future RRB and RRC examinations.
- 2. Photograph:
- Non-compliance with the live photo capture instructions at Para 16.4, or submission of a picture of a pre-existing printed or digital photograph, leads to rejection at any stage.
- 3. Signature:
- Non-compliance with the signature instructions at Para 16.5, including a non-white background, non-black ink, block or capital letters, poor resolution, an incomplete signature, a thumb impression in place of a signature or the signature of another person, leads to rejection at any stage.
- 4. Debarred candidates:
- A candidate whose name appears in the debarred list of any RRB or RRC will be rejected.
- 5. Unfair means:
- Forgery, impersonation, cheating, misconduct, use or attempted use of banned items, misrepresentation or suppression of facts, wrong information or a false document leads to lifetime debarment from all RRB and RRC examinations, debarment from Railway appointment, dismissal if already appointed, and legal action under The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, effective from 21.06.2024.
- 6. Electronic devices:
- Possession of a mobile phone, Bluetooth device or any other means of wireless communication, whether working or switched off, leads to immediate cancellation of candidature and debarment.
- 7. Scribe misuse:
- Unauthorised use of a scribe or of compensatory time leads to disqualification and, if already appointed, removal from service without notice. A scribe found independently answering questions terminates the candidate's session and cancels the candidature.
- 8. Absence at Document Verification:
- The candidature of a candidate absent at Document Verification is cancelled, as is that of a candidate who does not produce original certificates on the date of verification.
- 9. False information:
- False information or suppression of material facts discovered at any stage, or afterwards, leads to immediate cancellation of candidature or appointment, removal from service and lifetime debarment from all RRB and RRC examinations.
- 10. No refund on rejection:
- No refund of examination fee is made on account of rejection of an application.
